Yes, it's a shooting game again at long last! Just in time for the 200th video! Woo!
All right so here we have Carrier AirWing, a CPS1 game by Capcom (who else). It is pretty similar to U.N. Squadron (same money/shop/weapon level up systems), but better! Better music and audio, better stage looks and layouts, and more variation than just scrolling in one direction. Also, easier.
So easy, that I bumped enemy strength to max (8 instead of 4) on the DIP switch settings. This means more, faster bullets and tougher large enemies. Your life meter also drains a bit faster. There is another setting called 'player life' that I tried making harder, but then almost EVERY bullet will take your entire life bar. No joke. So I left that at default.
I get 9 perfects :D! I had never managed that before this run.
Also, bonus items: We pick up a star, a rabbit, a kappa, and a tanuki. Two different Mobi-chan. And we spin a cow. That's important =P.

One of my favourite horizontal shooters. It has many nice touches. Not the hardest game ever, but definitely one of the most fun.
Back in the day I could beat this game on a credit.
One of my favorite games of all time! Still hoping that this game would some day would show up on PSN so I can play this game again :)

when i was 8 years old .i use to play this game . i wonder now at that time my fighter jet was never been touched by enemies .it was fully perfect shot .
and i still remember this game .that he missed a treasure on one stage at 10.08 time .probably some i forget now .

As a kid I use to play this game and complete it with one credit.
Funny how you need to blast through sky scrapers with a plane in mission 2. I doubt they would make something like that in a game nowadays, haha.

Compared to other shooting games, this one is a breeze.
The hardest part was getting a perfect on that submarine boss :(.
It truly is. All because of the poorly programmed timing of the jets, coupled with the fact that once you kill the boss you can't hit enemies anymore. :( Now for some REAL fun try getting a perfect on stage 8. Ouch.
Awesome playthrough though. Funny how you got nailed at the EXACT spot I always do with the 3rd boss as well.
The submarine was tougher even than the final boss

This game is on capcom arcade stadium. So glad to own it and take it on the go with the switch version.
A spinoff to UN Squadron,great game but it never saw the light of day on any home consoles.
Actually, this came out before U.N. Squadron.
Great run and one of my favourite arcade classics. Of course to get the good ending you have to beat the whole game on one credit which you do in fine style.

And considering how long this 1990 arcade shmup is, that is very bad since one mistake means having to go through this game all over again.

true. but in the japanese version (US Navy), the commander has a couple of more features which make him look more like Sir Connery.
Wait, you mean this isn't just a reskin of the Area88 arcade game? It's so similar, I figured they just changed the arcade game up for the North American release or something!

What happens if you time out the final boss of Carrier AirWing?
It just explodes; which is good because I hate it anyway. For bosses I actually like on the game, I just time them out. It's kinda' fun; I dodge all their attacks without firing a shot. The black bomber (stage 1) and the golden bomber (stage 7) are my favorite aerial bosses, and they just leave when they time out. I like to think they'll go home and choose a life of good rather than evil. lol The super submarine (stage 6) is a bit trickier because she attacks so aggressively. But I timed her out with no damage to her or me. You can actually see the sub's back end when you fly past her after time is up.
Kwaj The situation is even weirder in the prequel to Carrier Airwing called U.N. Squadron where if you fool around during a boss battle, instead of the boss getting bored and leaving, the fight abruptly stops and says mission failed which is even worse because you don't know when the fight will abruptly stop.
It's funny you mention UN Squadron. Without firing a shot, I timed out the large, tracked missile carrier boss at the end of the cavern level. When I got the 'mission failed' on the screen, the boss launched this huge missile that flies off the screen. Nothing happened after that and I went on to the next level, but it would've been *SO* awesome if the game showed a cutscene of that missile detonating with a nuclear blast over the Area 88 base and just ending the game with a mushroom cloud onscreen. lol

+Jac2Mac It doesn't time out. It HAS to be destroyed. I waited forever to see if it would time out. Damn near 10 minutes before I decided to just finish it.
Strangely, being an arcade game, but seems you cannot continue the game by inserting coins, when all your lives depleted, that's it, game over.
The song was from 1992
so u have to save ammo?

I like this game, i like graphic style and little goodies like aircrafts falling on ground and burning autos...but music, compared to SNES is crap.
