I am unsure how to describe my level of play, I feel like a novice but at the same time I average around 80, more often 2 or 3 strokes above but I also break 80 regularly. But as to your video, I have found that I like to place the ball just slightly ahead of the mid way point of my stance. That way, I feel like the putter is certain to not hit the ball on a downward trajectory and for that reason, I get forward roll immediately. I found that with the ball right in the middle of my stance, I could get a little skid or a bounce and skid before the ball would roll. When I started experimenting with marking a line on my putting ball, I could see these things more clearly and that led me to put the ball a touch forward. I totally agree with you when you said you don't like the acceleration/longer follow through. I think it's much harder to do that consistently because some days you're going to feel more energetic and you are likely going to over do that. If you try to rock and putter back and forth more pendulum like, that should be easier to repeat over a long period of time. Great video and thanks for the tips!
Awesome, yes learning to manage the back and forward stroke length can really help...thanks for posting and glad the information helped your game...be sure to subscribe, more great content to come!
Great video. The only thing I would say as a new golfer is that I dont like the look away. I saw the scratch golf academy video. In that video he putts then holds and then swivels his head only not his body to see how the ball is rolling and the reason is so you can gauge and make minor adjustments and that really helps. Another thing is bringing the putter back I don't like doing it too much because it affects my putt as there is to much motion and when the club strikes the ball it messes up my line. So I like the shorter back swing on the putts because you can still generate enough power even for 10-15 yard putts. Im definitely trying your method of gripping because before I was holding it like my other clubs.
I think your 60-40 drill principle is confirmed by watching the best putters on the PGA. Almost to a man, their follow-through is short, or at least shorter than their back swing. I've got a tournament tomorrow and I am going to practice with the Look-Away drill and see if it helps with short putts. Thanks for the good advice.
Appreciate the post. You are seeing the same thing we see. I have a full section in my new book on putting if you are interested www.badliegolfbook.com/
Thank you so much....ive been struggling with my puttin lately....watchin this showed me exactly ehat to do with hands....i had been you grip with fingers which caused me to flip wrist a little bit throwin my pace off....but in the palms seems to fix all that....aldo ive watched several videos but them one actually helped...thanks

Excellent! Putting used to be the best shot of my golf. But suddenly, I could not put any more, as if I was suffering from some sort of phobia. Your advice came quite handy, thank you.
I know this video is 5yrs old, but I found it and have a question. Is the best way to execute the putt by rocking shoulders? I have viewed other putting videos that recommend, not rocking the shoulders but use more hands.
We like a combination of the shoulders, arms and hands. You can find our entire putting system in our book The Bad Lie. See here www.badliegolfbook.com/
I couldn't agree with you more. I wasted too many seasons trying to accelerate throught the ball. It never felt natural. Having an even tempo back/forward is the way to go!
thecragus thanks! Accelerating through the strike or impact is not a good idea in our opinion...thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Hope the info helps!
Good thought technique.. unfortunately i live in Scotland where in the winter the greens ar'nt always the best so we have to hit a tad harder, but as i said good thought technique would like more info on where the eyes sit in the process
I’ve watched two of your putting videos now. The advice and drills have helped tremendously. Any videos on using a pitching wedge? Scrolling through the video list and not finding one. Thanks for the content.
I have HAD IT with making three putts, and especially missing 3'-4' putts. I had 6 three putts and 1 four put my last round and I am so over it. That said, some days are great and I barely think about missing a putt, and many days I have zero confidence and hope for the best. I will try your techniques, but could you please clarify the grip position? I have been using left hand low (I'm right handed) for over a decade. Help!
Short putting is a key to good scoring, you are correct. I do have a full chapter on putting in my book The Bad Lie if you enjoy learning. You can find it on Amazon here www.badliegolfbook.com/
I have always considered putting a bit of a dark art, I have been tutored on putting in a stable indoor situation as well as outdoors on a course putting green. But things change on the course, each green is different. The lie of the green V how far away from the pin, is the grass wet or dry. Not only do I need to judge distance V how hard to hit and where to aim. That is why I consider it a dark art, principally, putting tutors cannot teach you how to read each green, practice, practice, practice. flying a helicopter is easier than playing golf.
Putting is whole nother animal I’ve seen people make 15 ft rs all day long two feet from the hole they can’t make one if you know the secret please let me know
I seem to putt better when I hold everything still and listen for the putt to fall wish I was better I took a lesson once we were 8 feet from the hole I tossed 6 in the hole 7 th one hit flag stick and verd off pro said damnest thing he had seen he couldn’t do that must be in my head lol hope I learn before I drop
Is it acceptable to use one hand to putt? I move my chest when I use 2 hands. Keep in mind women have boobs. Some of us have more in way than others. I ask this bc it is embarrassing to mention to the golf pro I am taking lessons from. Not sure how to keep it professional.
Bob Sloan not every drill works for every player...hope you found the other ideas we shared helpful...thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
I never comment on these videos the 60/40 has made a huge difference on my putting, thank you
Great to hear! Appreciate you posting
i love the comments on golf instruction videos. they make me wanna play golf more often :)
The short follow through is such a great tip. Bring too concerned on acceleration makes it way too easy to slap at the ball instead of rolling it.
It has worked for many of our students, thanks! Have you seen this putting video ua-cam.com/video/zYp1sbrKB4k/v-deo.htmlsi=MmgABXnnpBCiQTsh

Great advice. Thank you for making it simple and easy to understand.
Well done. I appreciate you starting with the beginning the definitions. Very good.
We got you...are you a subscriber?
Thank you. Everyone been telling to do 25 back 75 forward but I agree with you here. My putting is much better this way.

I’m a beginner golfer and saw a video with Phil Mickelson saying do the 25 back and 75 forward. Now I’m so confused on what to practice.
@@kittymedusa3618 I am in the same boat with you. I guess we will have to try both techniques and see which works for us
Some tips on how to read a green. Love the videos. Find them super helpful for the “experienced” golfer
Thanks for the good video- I've worked at a course all summer and haven't yet tried golfing! Giving it a go tomorrow 😊
Good for you...best of luck and thanks for posting!

Thanks for the kind words! Are you looking for chipping or wedge play videos?
Very helpful, will try soon. My question is how to start putt motion with back of right hand or right shoulder. Many thanks, Ken in White Plains.
Great question, it can really be either, depends on the player. Personally we prefer more of the trail hand....this is where the touch and feel are.

I hear you man. If i could putt i would be such a better golfer. So damn frustrating lol
Very helpful
Great advice as usual Todd
Our pleasure! Were you able to join our free webinar a few nights back?
Hello, I have some wonderful news that will put a smile on your face!
As always great content.
Stuart Barclay thanks! We do our best....thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!👍
Interesting - will try these outr : )
When you start your back stroke, are you keeping your eyes on the ball or follow the putter back?
bigtee1040 definitely keep the eyes over the ball! Great question!
Controlling distance - speed of swing or amplitude of swing?
Great info

Thankyou
Putting and around the green kill my score every game. Have gotten better i think its still the toughest aspect of the game.

"Keep your eye on the ball" -every baseball coach ever
the one thing I'll be able to use in my swing, the pimping the putt is crazy...
What putter are you using in this video?
It is an old Point and Putt putter. Not sure if they are around anymore?
Thanks. Beautiful.

Shawna Gunn putting with one hand is certainly an option and one we have used as a practice drill in the past...if it works...go for it! 👍
Let's be real, it's important refund information
I think your look away drill is the worst! Tried it and I became a worst putter. Just keep your to where the ball was works mush better.
