    Despite being 50 years of age, this past season (2022) was my first 'serious' year of golf. I was thinking more about what I was trying to do with every shot and my game vastly improved from the year before. In 2021 I was happy to break 100 and last year I broke 80 for the first time and shot in that vicinity all season long and had only one round over 90. A huge part of that was my putting. I committed to my line and I tried very hard to not leave any putts short, as those don't have any chance to go in. I probably went from 3 putting between 4 and 6 times per round to doing it perhaps once or twice per round. I hope to do even better this year and the reason I have said all of that was because much of my improvement came from watching videos on this channel! Thank you very much from a big fan in Canada.

    I watched this episode and part 2 (chipping) of this series earlier today and I'm already feeling the effects! My chipping has never felt better because I was using more than just a wedge to shoot chips close around the green. I gave myself a lot of 1 putt opportunities, which I've never done before. I also made my first ever birdie! It was about a 12 foot putt, and I thank your putting advice for me being able to make it. I kept my body still and used my shoulders and arms to guide the putter like you said, and I also focused on hitting the head of the putter as center as possible on the ball. Thank you so much for all your great tips and advice on golf! I shot +8 through 9 holes today. My best ever was +12! I'll continue watching your content, and sharing it with my friends.

    This has been amazingly useful. My putting has been awful so I booked some lessons. However, having seen this, my putting has improved so much that I’ve cancelled the lessons. The video is so clear explaining rather than dictating so my understanding has improved. Brilliant.

    I just started playing again. I joined a league and our first practice round was last night. I 3 putted every green. I will keep it simple and just practice these drills you have shown. I've realized by trying to learn different skills on UA-cam the worst thing I can do is hop around to different channels. I'm happy I watched you first!! Thanks again.

    Good video. Tip: Aim small, miss small. Really focus at a point on the back of the ball that you're trying to strike with the putter - right down to the dimple. Keep your eye on it until you've hit the ball. I say this as it's actually really easy to just look at a non-specific point on the ball but if you can pick a small the spot you want to strike on the ball, the close you will be to it.

    Good job... Great basic teaching!.. I would like some tips on pace control. A 3-put happens when the pace is off a significant amount, being too long or too short. If the pace was on you would have a much shorter 2nd putt. Any decent putter will have the line pretty close, but if the pace of off, well then we have a troublesome 2nd.. Thanks!

    I'm slightly confused at one point you state the putter head comes back on a slight angle and releases on a angle (angle is not the correct word but you probably know what I mean)...then on the 3rd drill you are attempting to keep the putter movement on the same path (straight).

    how do I fix brushing the putter head on the green during the forward putting stroke

  • @colinwhite2724
    @colinwhite2724 6 років тому

    So clear and well presented and explained. The lower body moving is a particular problem of mine that I need to work on ... got to hit the centre of the putter more often. Over the years I have tried many putters but my most comfortable feeling putter is an old bullseye style one that I’ve been accused of stealing from the local pitch and putt. It just seems so much easier to line up but the MOI is an issue .. off centre hits are killers.
    Do I try to increase my ability to connect with the centre of the putter or continue the search for something else (I don’t seem to get on with face- balanced ones)? Many thanks for the vids and best wishes.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf

  • @mesillahills
    @mesillahills Рік тому

    There is one major flaw in what you teach at the end. When practicing, timing naturally takes over and you just make everything. But when you come back the next day you will not be able to hit a damned thing again. The fix to that is to follow the teachings of Ben Crenshaw. He even taught Tiger. As Paul Azinger says, "All good putters know that you have to give up control of the putter in order to gain control of the putter". An ultra light grip and a swinging release is what Crenshaw advocates. This in effect takes you out of the putt and to where very little is important. The putter is swinging itself and thus has very little propensity to twist.

      Yo Chris...Jack Nicklaus said if he had to do it all over again that he would use left-hand low putting. May be worth a video? Secondly, Jordan Spieth and others use a forward press. Might be work another video? Big G.

    Hi Chris, just watched your video on putting fundamentals and have to say just how well you covered all the basics, really excellent. One thing I like to do with my students, particularly those that find keeping their lower body quiet during the stroke is to take up an athletic set up at address, pushing their feet into the ground. This helps lock the lower body in position which I find gives great results and feedback.
    Love the fact you use Phil Kenyons Visio putting AIDS, I find them really excellent too. One aid I use with the more elite golfer is a metre long rail which visibly shows what's happening to the first 3 feet of the putt.
    Once again, really enjoy watching your presentations and look forward to seein more.
    Regards, Gordon

    Your idea was to keep it simple. There was nothing simple about your explanation. Ha ha ha..
    Here is my explanation of "keeping it simple"
    Confidently:
    1) Read the green
    2) Find the Line
    3) give it the right speed.

      Thanks Terry, always open to opinions on how I can improve. Not sure how many of my videos you have watched but this video and this series were intentionally longer in length and more detail as they were aimed at beginner or newer golfers. This is why I was chatting about what the ball should do, how many putts etc, most of my vids are around 5-7 mins and a little more to the point 👍👍

      ChrisRyanGolf Says a ton about your character to respond to criticism in the manner you did. I can't grasp the time and effort it takes in respect to making 1 video needless to say the amount you have. It could just be me, however most people inquire and search things for a need. That being said, showing the technique with brief explanation makes room for a person to segment a "why" video to their demonstration video. What do I know 😂.. I'm just a consumer... Let me go give your other videos a fair shake. Again, I applaud the work you are investing.

      This was the purpose of the video, ‘back to basics’ if you knew the info in the first few mins then this video wasn’t for you. Plenty out there who learnt lots from this 👍👍

    Holy crap! 7 mins in until you say anything useful. Don't even putt until after 10 mins. This could be an 8 min video and it's over 20

    Hi Chris, I love your videos, they are very well done. I found the how to stop 3 putting video very helpful and then explored more of them. What putter are you using? Thanks!

    At 17:50 when you say putt stroke should have some arc to it...does that apply for face balanced putters also?

    Great video but a common problem I see and sometimes I do is following the ball with the eyes just hitting it and especially when stress is on the way....
    Thanks
