Journey through the Past- Las Vegas 1989

- Here's a treat for long-time residents of Las Vegas, especially if you have fond memories of the Meadows mall. Following a blow-out Birthday party at Aladdin's Castle at the Meadows Mall, my DAD kept the camera rolling to capture the entire drive back home. Note the wide-open expanse of the US-95, the barren landscape of Summerlin and the West Desert beyond, and the quaint neighborhood I called home from 1986 to 1995. My friends and I spent many a hot Summer day at either the Meadows, or the Strip malls of Rainbow and Westcliff, especially Video Tyme, Record City, and Burger King.

Not a cloud in the sky and probably like 108 degrees out in July. Definitely straight from my childhood. I was raised near Bonanza and Eastern then moved with my family to the east side close to Sunrise mtn. in 1993. I remember this area well though. My dad was a manager at the JC Penney at the Meadows Mall throughout my childhood then got promoted and transferred to the Boulevard Mall location in probably 1991 or so. Thanks for the upload. This is golden.

Lived in Vegas from 1987 till 2012 with my parents lost both of them in 2012 I miss Vegas will be moving back down soot

Of course you drove right into my neighborhood! That ham radio tower is still on that house.
Went to high school near there and sometimes went to the mall for lunch in those days. And we thought the area was changing then. Ha!
A good friend lived on Rainbow very close to where you were. He just moved to Florida this year - it will be strange not going to his house on that side of town any more.
WOW… ok so I stumbled across this video after searching how vegas was back then… I see this was recorded 3 days after i was born and here I am looking the date today and its july12, 2014… Yeah umm, its amazing how things have changed by looking at this video. I moved here in vegas in 2005 though lol

Moved to Vegas in 1982 myself. You really should go back and film the same route and put them both together. Good memories.
Thanks for the comment boatswainsm8. Funny you should suggest taping the same route today. Actually filmed the route from the Meadows Mall back to my former home off Rainbow and Westcliff in 2008. Lost the clip when UA-cam account was deleted. I will try to find that video. Pretty stark contrast between the decades.
Hahaha man I've been here all my life since 91 not tenaya/antelope and westcliff and am typing this from the same house. I love vegas !
And wow I see the date of the video and I wasn't born yet but I know exactly what my family was doing..... my cousin who is like my blood brother was born on that exact day. Thank you so much for this.
Also does the 81 mean u were born in 81? I have a brother that was born in 82 that graduated from bonanza you guys could know each other!
sam dorsa Yes. sir. Born July 13th. '81. Guess your brother's birthday is coming up real soon as well. All the kids in this neighborhood went on to Bonanza. I, however, moved up North to attend Cimarron just before High School. May have attended Middle School with your brother. Thanks for watching the video. Glad it brings back good memories for you.
So those neighborhoods definitely saw better days.
Look in the Background for Furr's Cafeteria in the Meadows parking lot. It's a Dialysis clinic Now. The whole trip is Valley View to North US-95, exit South Rainbow to WestCliff. My old House was 6604 Pickford Lane. Also, the Blonde accompanying me in the Limo was my good friend Kellee. She was like my Big Sister.

Hello! Sorry to bother you, but do you still own the tape this was recorded on? I live in Vegas and have lived here my whole life, seeing this route in the 80s is absolutely nuts, as I’ve seen these streets thousands of times. Thanks for uploading:)

The street at 4:13 looks very different along the North side, thanks to the Freeway widening of US-95. That whole stretch of Houses was obliterated to make way.

Yeah, i went 1987 to 1990. It was a trip back in time for sure.
All I see is the road and the car,looks like a generic video,really not much to see!
