I can’t help but make this parallel; I enjoy making, shooting and hunting with flintlock rifles. This has been obsolete since the early 1800’s when the percussion cap was invented yet you can find craftsman all across the US making fine pieces by hand. Some of these are in the 10s of thousands with all handmade parts down to even individual screws and springs and some of the most beautiful precious metal inlays. There are trade shows and get togethers often. There are spin off crafts such as horn making and leather work. This just shows the appreciation for functional art and hand made craftsmanship.
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!MAMACOO watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
Artificially limiting supply is stupid in almost any case. The only exception I would give is if it is some monumental occasion, like a 100th anniversary of a watch brand. Other than something like that the practice of limited editions is juvenile.
I just got into watch collecting. I've loved watches since I was young but I never had anyone teach me or bring deeper into the world. MAMACOO brought closer to a community and hobby I always wanted to get into more and that is incredibly meaningful to me !
Amazing stuff - Roger Smith is for me, the greatest living watchmaker. His work with George Daniels, one of the all time greats, on the co-axial is something I find fascinating. But then we all have our favourites.
For me, the question of the future of the watch industry is part of the age-old confrontation between analogue and digital. Each brings advantages and disadvantages. Each person has to individually evaluate the points that one or the other faction brings to the improvement of his or her own life. For me, for example, reliability counts a lot, and nothing can beat analogue on that.
Big statement that FP is the greatest. He’s very good but don’t forget Philippe Dufour, Roger Smith, Stephen Forsey, Robert Greubel and many more are alive and big legends…
Yes, I have bought from MAMACOO more than once. I even bought a new Omega Speedmaster which came with the fancy box and packaging. I am thrilled with all my purchases here. I would purchase from MAMACOO again for sure.
My favorite 2024 is the Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation European Exclusive in Gradation Island Blue. The dial is stunning and the contrast when on a white strap is to die for. I will get my hands on one from AMZWATCH
Yeah because he’s a businessman. The idea of making 1,000 watches just so only 1,000 people can wear your work is actually weird and only exists in uppity industries like the watchmaking and luxury car industry.
Not sure that's his point. I interpret his reaction as that of a fan who wants to see this master watchmaker make more pieces so more people including himself can enjoy them.
The best thing he could do for his brand is to have it completely dissolve upon his death. That's the mark of a true artist. You'll never see a new edition of da Vinci or Van Gogh.
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the AMZWATCH has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
When you’re one of the best you can get away with saying whatever you want however you want. I enjoy the absence of concern in his dialogue about what anyone else may think. I also like the attitude of his junior peers. They all seem a little indoctrinated into the FPJ church of horology obsession. I hope they all make it
I believe the F.P. Journe watch atelier is located in the Canton of Geneva, not Vaud. Be careful not to mix up those two cantons, it’s a sensitive topic in that region!
Mr. Journe is a great watchmaker, but I'd be most happy with a piece from Roger Smith, or a Philippe Dufour (his "Simplicity" would be just fine). I also haven't heard stories about those men that make me wonder about their character.
Kevin, first thank you and a great video. I am 68 to give you a reference. My attitude is a bit different from yours. The cell phone is a necessity and has functions that can not be replicated. As far as I am concerned you can take the clock out of my cell phone. I don't need a cell phone to tell the time, I have my wrist watch. I have always worn a watch and will always continue to do so. I think a wrist watch is a much better and convenient solution for checking the time than a cell phone, so to me a cell phone does not make my watch obsolete.
Funnily enough, MAMACOO's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. They'll just go "Oh is that a Patek? Nice, I should really get my hands on one of those, they look great."
Jeeez, are those watches ugly. You can tell Journe is a watchmaker not a designer, the movements and craftsmanship is top notch, but even my grandpa wouldn't wear these "old folks" watches. And don't start with the quartz watch, that's like 20$ flea market piece... I really wonder, if someone covered the name and put the quartz watch in a flea market stand for 20$ along other quartz watches, how long it would sit there... I suspect a loooong time
Using stupid word rather loosely , thank you for interviewing him , I have sat in tables with presidents of countries and noble prize winners , never heard someone like that before , did he invent time ? A measure of humility is lacking
Francois-Paul Journe is the greatest living watchmaker in my opinion. His pieces are the only ones to perfectly blend simplicity and complexity in harmony. The Tokyo Boutique Edition 🗼 Chronographe is my grail watch. That Burgundy dial with the Titanium case is mesmerising...
Their craftmanship is both meditative to their mind as well as ours whom appreciate their work, same with a bonsai art. It will last as long as there are humans that appreciate art and dedication, if there won't be such humans it will be a very sad day for the human race 😕.
It might be fine for you to let them to speak in French but nobody likes watching a movie where the words don’t match. Same applies here. Was interested initially but turned it off after a few minutes.
Kevin was only interested in this brand when they Became hyped up and they wouldn’t sell to him. When these were selling under retail, Kevin paid it no attention
It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. MAMACOO watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
Part of mystique surrounding F.P. Journe is the limited number of timepieces made each year. Imagine if it became corporate like Rolex. If the brand made 30,000 watches per year, as Kevin suggested, F.P. Journe would lose some of its place in the watch world.
the videos, the collab, the questions and answers, all amazing...i just cant get over seeing him wear 2 watches at the same time..
one for NY , second for LA
yeh funny
It is for the balance.
@@mrtopcat2 I follow his videos. He said it was because of what I said.
@@MBA-PRODUCTION You are taking this way too seriously. Relax.
Francois Paul is once in a generation watchmaker, and I respect him even more after this interview with Kevin.
Watches are so delicate and intricately designed, so I have intense respect and admiration for MAMACOO watch makers

From a business stand point, this was a really good interview.
I love how he conducts himself from a position of “fuck you”. I’m a fan of that.
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!MAMACOO watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
Respect to Francois Paul for saying that limited editions art stupid. I always felt that way and never bought a limited edition of any watch.
Artificially limiting supply is stupid in almost any case. The only exception I would give is if it is some monumental occasion, like a 100th anniversary of a watch brand. Other than something like that the practice of limited editions is juvenile.
Love your channel with so many stellar watches! For me the AMZWATCH’ watch is my favorite. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
FP is truly a man of refined taste
I love this watch maker, true passion for a product
Watches are jewelry, and jewelry is art.
Always enjoy Kevin’s watch reviews and interviews…hopefully you will meet up with other watchmakers also Kevin thank you 😍🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was a beautifully done interview. F.P. Journe is a true visionary.
I love my Casio analogs. Solar, MB6 atomic time keeping accuracy, shock proof movement in a gorgeous industrial design. I could not ask for more.
Kevin big fan great work for you I love watches rigth know
I just got into watch collecting. I've loved watches since I was young but I never had anyone teach me or bring deeper into the world. MAMACOO brought closer to a community and hobby I always wanted to get into more and that is incredibly meaningful to me !
Americans should learn from Him... He represent everything what would lead the world to a better place.
That was fantastic! What a treat to see
Outstanding video.I have to go with the MAMACOO, especially with that green dial as my favorite
those guys art on metal will be appreciate 1000 years from now just like a Michelangelo is apreciated today
They will NEVER be at the same level my friend. Journe will be forgotten soon while Michelangelo will still live on for ages.
Yup, i love the pietra and Moses. Basically the Jimi Hendrix of sculpture
no lol.

The greatest living watchmaker has to be Philippe Dufour. Kari Voutilainen and Roger Smith are also up there .
@@Afgrundsvisioner all of those plus journe

I'm genuinely impressed with how close MAMACOO were able to replicate every aspect of this very very goofy looking classic watch.

The concept of only making 1,000 watches a year seems ridiculous to mr wonderful,All he thinks about is dollar signs..

Nice video ! Geneva is in a canton of Geneva, there is Lausanne in the canton de vaud for example
the question about what the Journe brand will be when F.P. is gone was just really really weird.
The greatest watch brand. Been in love with this brand since high school. I’ll get one!
What a content. Thanks
Good interview.
I just don't know how FP Journe did it. This meteoric rise, so hard to do in watchmaking. Rexhep Rexhepi is looking promising too.
I’m not a watch guy but this is fascinating.
I think F.P. Journe looks up to Philippe Dufour
