I don’t know if this story is the same circumcision that this video talked about but long time ago I read this story and it really stuck in my head, it’s about a girl that undergo circumcision when she was young because of her parents belief and that actually made her genital hurts really bad during sex (almost not able to have sex) and when she confronted her parents she kinda found out its been done to every girl in her village to purposely make girls not able to enjoy sex so they’ll be loyal to the husband. And the one who demand the girls to get circumcised are usually the man of the family. What a story, I hope they’ll make this illegal worldwide soon.

I read once that in the most severe fgm cases, like in Somalian culture, it can cause complications during childbirth because there is actually such severe mutilation around the vaginal opening. FGM effects childbirth a lot! There have been cases where the "cutter" actually sews up INSIDE the vaginal canal so that the "man is really getting a virgin." I was 20 years old and having a conversation with my 3 housemates. We're all Malay Muslim and somehow the topic of female circumcision came up. A said she was really young when she went through it so she doesn't remember it, only knows that it was done. B said she's still bitter her mum made her go through it when she was old enough to remember the pain. Me and C said we didn't go through it, but A goes "Are you sure? Don't we all have to go through it?" I drop my mum a text asking if she put me through it, thinking her response was going to be along the lines of "haha what kind of conversations are you even having with your friends?" but instead it was a "Yes... all Muslim girls have to do sunat (this isn't true). You were about a year old, and when we passed you to the doctor I was crying the whole time..." I was dumbfounded. I felt violated. A part of me had been cut off and I had never known it had been gone. I wouldn't even have known if I hadn't asked my mum. I'd never even heard of female circumcision being a thing in our community until 5 minutes ago. I honestly don't even know what or how much was cut, all my mum told me is "they just cut off a little bit" (a little bit of exactly what Mama?!?!?!??!!) It's been almost 10 years since then and I still feel violated when I think about it. We've never spoken about it since then, and in hindsight I don't even know why. I think about it every now and then. It feels strange to miss a thing I never really had, but I've lived my whole life without it and never noticed it missing so I'm not that bothered... still though, I just can't get over how a part of me had been friggin CHOPPED OFF and I never knew. It's even more bizarre that my mum had at no point in my life ever mentioned anything to do with female sunat when it had been already done to me. Her explanation for why it had to be done was just that "we had to do it". I had been furious at her when I found out, but now I'm just angry at the society that built this belief in her in the first place. The Malay and Muslim cultures are two separate entities that are so tightly intertwined that we sometimes place religious values on practices that are sustained by Malay tradition. I don't know if this is one of those things, but whatever it is at one point it told my mum "girls need to be circumcised", and the sources of knowledge she had available to her then echoed that perspective. In the least, it's gotten a lot better now that the internet is around and there are clearer voices about this topic in the community so people can make better decisions rather than relying on knowledge passed around by word of mouth. I also just want to put out there that my mum is amazing and wonderful, and she did what she thought was best for me at that point with what she knew. I give her lots of hugs everyday and she hugs me back and they make me feel warm and fuzzy and comforted, and she's the best thing I have in my life 💕💕💕
Thanks for the story, I think its quite a common one. So now you're in your thirties I'm wondering if you have children and are in the same position as your mother was with you? It is an Islamic tradition that was introduced into Malay culture and not the other way around. We know this because it was first introduced into Malay culture with the arrival of Islam. In fact outside of African countries cutting girls is as good as only practiced by Muslims. In fact Islam is the only significant religion where most adherents are cut and there are more than twice as many cut Muslims in the world than all other cut people put together.

It’s common in Malaysia too. A lot of my female Muslim Malaysian friends have gone through this. You can even go to some clinics where they openly tell you the price and the procedure. I’m not agreeing with the practice, just sharing.
PEOPLE ARE MISLEAD: Although there is no mention of FGM in the Quran, a Hadith (saying about the life of the prophet) conveys a discussion between prophet Muhammed and a woman (Um Habiba) who was known for being a practitioner of FGM. Having seen her, Muhammad asked her if she kept practicing FGM. She answered "yes", adding: “unless it is forbidden and you order me to stop doing it.” Muhammed replied: “Yes, it is allowed. Come closer so I can teach you: if you cut, do not overdo it, because it brings more radiance to the face, and it is more pleasant for the husband.” Most clerics use this hadith to support that FGM is recommended, but not obligatory for women. But some say it is obligatory. While others who take a position against FGM call this hadith weak in relation to the “do no harm” principle of Islam or interpret the intention of the prophet differently. Those who claim that FGM is an act of Sunnah support their view with the hadith related by Al-Bayhaqi and Ahmad that; “A circumcision is an act of Sunnah for men and an honorable act for women”. However, it is critical to highlight that Al-Hajjaj Ibn Arta’ah, to whom the recounts of this hadith is traced back, is known for his chicanery and dishonesty in narration (thus making the hadith unauthentic). An argument that abnegates the Islamic licitness of FGM is based on the fact that there is no evidence or indication which shows that the Prophet (PBUH) had any of his wives or daughters cut. Had FGM been among Islam’s commands and guidelines, the Prophet would have been the first to implement the law and carry out the practice on his wives and daughters. Thus, it is clear that the authentic Sunnah does not contain evidence that supports the legitimacy of FGM and that the Hadiths quoted to support the practice are weak and do not constitute a basis from which a legal Islamic ruling can be derived. In fact, FGM is but a procedure (or tradition) which Islam has left to time and medical progress to eradicate. However, although FGM may not be an Islamic practice there are people who believe it to be Islamic. Therefore, official statements from prominent religious leaders condemning FGM and declaring it “un-Islamic” are an essential part of the struggle against the practice. But it is not enough and it will not work alone. The cultural aspect can’t be neglected. As interviews show, FGM is often considered essential for proper marriage and family honor. Where it is practiced, it is inflicted on nearly all girls within the group. Mothers find themselves in the dilemma of either having to harm their daughters or not being able to get them married later on. Only if a large percentage of a group decides to stop mutilating girls, can FGM be eliminated. They have to take this decision at the same time and follow it through.
@@cynthiacopland8634 That's their culture not of the entire world. Only men of this region might not be marrying just normal woman, entire world doesn't gives a damn about this 🤣. Stupid culture among people always exists
First step of change is accepting: Abu Dawud 43:499 “Do not cut so severely as that is better for the woman and more desirable for a husband” Hanbal 5:75 “A law for men and a preservative for a woman’s honor”
Well people do this to little boys all over the world even in the United States and people are open about it! But since it happens to men it’s not a big deal.
Actually, it's very common that many people are now seeing male circumcision is wrong too. Male circumcision isn't even a religious thing anymore, in the West it has become cultural. I live in the USA and many men choose to have their sons circumcised based on outdated ideas about it being "easier to clean", "helping prevent infections", "women aren't used to uncircumcised men in the West and it will make his sex life harder" or they "just want their son to look like them". I literally heard ALL these things from my own partner when I was pregnant. He had ZERO religious reason for wanting to circumcise and had, in fact, had his older son from another relationship circumcised when he was born. We had a BAD argument about it, where I explained how most of his "reasons" were outdated and untrue. That he would be asking me toagree to mutilating our child so that it "looked like him". He literally said, "he's gonna think it's weird if his looks different from mine", like what? Luckily we had a daughter. I know TONS of men in the West who think this way! But nearly all of my friends and people I associate with, especially women and people leaning left, understand that it's just as wrong as FGM and we stand up for that fact.
I don’t believe people don’t care because it happens to men. I think what is really happening is that the long term effects of circumcision are not as severe as they are for women so many people throughout the world (including some in the medical community) have supported it for many years. FGM can lead to severe lifelong issues and sexual disfunction, which is why women and medical professionals have started to speak out against it. Not saying that male circumcision is ok, but explaining the reasons why it is still supported today. For example, many men still push to have their sons circumcised because they don’t think their circumcisions negatively affected them or for religious reasons.
Sorry, that's not always true. My son HAD to be circumcised because his foreskin was too tight and wouldn't withdraw. It made his life liveable. That is NOTHING LIKE FGM!

I read once that in the most severe fgm cases, like in Somalian culture, it can cause complications during childbirth because there is actually such severe mutilation around the vaginal opening. In some cases the vaginal opening is partially sewed up to make it even more painful and less likely that a woman will cheat.

FGM effects childbirth a lot! There have been cases where the "cutter" actually sews up INSIDE the vaginal canal so that the "man is really getting a virgin." Because it causes the tissue to grown together, there's no elasticity ( this is true in ALL Type 3 cases) so there is much tearing, babies can get stuck ( both mother and child die), tearing can cause a hole (fistula) between either /or bladder or bowel so there is constant leakage of waste, in many cases, the women, if surviving (!) get SEWN UP AGAIN so that when they heal, the husband ......( you can figure this out) To sum, FGM IS BAD. I’m glad we can, as humanity, agree that FGM is horrendous and wrong. But I can’t help but wonder, why is male mutilation so normalized? Infants can’t consent to their body being permanently mutilated, all genital mutilation should be strictly outlawed worldwide.
male circumcision has medical consequences- i cant list them right now but there is a health risk if you don't circumsize them, male circumcision has a reason to exist
but female circumcision/mutilation only *causes* health risks, so its completely unnecessary and 'its tradition!' is a pathetic excuse. fgm is just the result of misogyny and blaming others for something they cant control
@@qingtessence2649 There’s a few problems with that argument though.
1) MGM’s medical benefits are minimal and is unnecessary by having proper hygiene. It’s not a compelling argument.
2) MGM, like FGM, is morally wrong because of consent. You have helpless, defenseless children who are forced to trust their parents, and then their parents permanently mutilate their bodies without consent.
If an adult consents to having their anatomy changed in anyway, they have the right to do so as it is their body. But because it is being performed on non-consenting children, it’s wrong.
@@Justanothermusicnerdxo FGM isn’t wrong because of the consent aspect. FGM has many issues that come with it & it’s intents is to have loyal women so they don’t feel satisfied in bed & it’s better if it sex hurts them so they don’t cheat that’s why it’s bad.
FGM can cause severe bleeding and problems urinating, and later cysts, infections, as well as complications in childbirth and increased risk of newborn deaths.
The risks out weigh the benefits if there is any. What negative effect happened to male who are circumcised?
The benefits out way the risk in male circumcision. The reason it should be band doesn’t have much to do with consent. There are procedures where a male may need to be circumcised which is also why it’s wouldn’t be considered mutilation. When would a women ever need to have her clit removed?

1. an act or instance of destroying, removing, or severely damaging a limb or other body part of a person or animal.

I was 20 years old and having a conversation with my 3 housemates.
Don't we all have to go through it?"
I drop my mum a text asking if she put me through it, thinking her response was going to be along the lines of "haha what kind of conversations are you even having with your friends?" but instead it was a "Yes... all Muslim girls have to do sunat (this isn't true). You were about a year old, and when we passed you to the doctor I was crying the whole time..."
I was dumbfounded. I felt violated. A part of me had been cut off and I had never known it had been gone. I wouldn't even have known if I hadn't asked my mum. I'd never even heard of female circumcision being a thing in our community until 5 minutes ago. I honestly don't even know what or how much was cut, all my mum told me is "they just cut off a little bit" (a little bit of exactly what Mama?!?!?!??!!)
It's been almost 10 years since then and I still feel violated when I think about it.

What country are you from?
It’s common in Malaysia too. A lot of my female Muslim Malaysian friends have gone through this. You can even go to some clinics where they openly tell you the price and the procedure. I’m not agreeing with the practice, just sharing.
PEOPLE ARE MISLEAD:
Although there is no mention of FGM in the Quran, a Hadith (saying about the life of the prophet) conveys a discussion between prophet Muhammed and a woman (Um Habiba) who was known for being a practitioner of FGM.
Why can’t a woman get married if she doesn’t have this procedure? Is it considered more attractive or ?

Pfft.... Even in Singapore FGM is still happening, let alone ITS NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES.
