Incredible! RV Execs Brett Davis and Rob Craig put their own life at risk to illustrate the AWESOME dependability of RettroBand VERSION 2.0, a revolutionary tire blowout safeguard. Watch this YT video of them blowing out a 365 size tire on a new luxury Cornerstone Motorhome at 70 mph! ua-cam.com/video/qbWi2s7PXKo/v-deo.html
Welcome aboard Peter! Travel trailer, fifth wheel, motorhome or tent,........we all get to see the same things! Even being a tourist using Bed & Breakfast places works for some folks. We love America, and the beautiful country we live in. Sue & I are just reporting in on our travels video UA-cam to share with you'all!
This is the very first I have ever heard of the matching of revolutions per mile by matching tire models. I love love love your scale model at 30:36. My inner geek went wild!😁
I don't know why, but it was especially exhilirating to see these professionals at work. James fitting the retroband onto the rim while it was inside the tire was a joy. 😁 As for the fifi, fifis are small, but foo-foos are big, so go with foo-foos! 😂
No price is to high for that kind of safety!! That can be a life or death decision! Thank you for a great video! Oh, and Sue, Mark has a tremendously soothing voice😊
I totally agree you cannot but a price on safety. Unfortunately I think some companies take advantage of this. I find it hard to believe they have to charge that much for a couple chunks of plastic and adjusting hardware.
I had to come back to this video a second time to make sure I had the information right! Fantastic information and much appreciated Mark & Sue Love the boingy-bouncy technical terminology as well
This was a very informative video. My whole world rides with me in our rig and this just makes safety sense! Keep up the quality video blogs. We appreciate you guys. Go Pack Go!
Hello Mark, Jimmy from Austin. I subscribe to about ten or twelve full time RV UA-cam channels. And you guys really do an awesome job of describing your cost of all your travels. And this video about your tires is one of your best so far. Please keep up the good work and take care of poor little Sue. I know it’s a full time job for her to keep you out of trouble. God Bless
Thanks Jimmy. I am happy to share with folks what this adventure is costing us. I wish it was less,......but it is what it is. Things are way more than we really expected,.....but life on the road is still good,.....and so worth it. We have one more repair video coming then I should be done for a while,......hopefully.
I gotta say that this is probably the best video I have seen on tires, tire coding, and safety. I thought I knew my way around a tire but you really showed me a thing or two. The Retrobands are now on my list as well as the Centramatics. Thanks for the video and all the valuable information.
We love that your are helping us learn about care and maintain everything RV. We have had our Ventana two years and there is so much we need to learn in this area. Please consider more post in this area
We throw in the learning video's when we can, but for the most part we are just about the places we go and see. We have a new repair video coming, as well as our 6 month budget update.
Your welcome Ray. Sometimes making an episode every week seems like work, but most times it still feels like our hobby. Sue & I are working at keeping it that way. If we both weren't working on it together, it would not be possible!
Great information you shared !! As a 32 year trucker , may I also add that buying one new tire and mounting it next too a tire with several thousand miles also means that an old tire mite be 12/32 nds and a new tire may be 18/32nds which will also effect revolutions per mile and actually caused my rear end axle to break on my semi from new tires matched next too old tires . Because the circumference were so different.
Thanks for chiming in Ivan. When I first learned about the revolutions per mile differences on all the same "series" of tires I was dealing with,...... I almost had a nervous breakdown. When I talked with Michelin on the phone and they agreed that the revs/mile thing is huge,........I almost had a heart attack. Neither of these things are good for my health! Hope I have made people aware of the rev/mile issues and that they ask questions during selecting tires for all the various installed positions.
In your case Mark in lieu of not buying all 4 drive axle tires at once, which is ideal, I would have moved a tire off of the tag to the drive and put the new tire on the tag since it would be if no consequence there. Like Ivan I drove over the road for 30 yrs and owned tractors for 20. I have seen mismatched tires take out axle shafts and burn up a pumpkin. Great informative video on the retro bands. What an awesome product.
Good Morning Mark & Sue ☕️, This is the best video out there that includes both tire and rettroband in-depth install, education and cost breakdown for the Rving community! Great Job!
I appreciate that! This was a really important video for me to share with everyone that will have this expense and experience if they own their rig long enough, or buy a used one like I did. We had planned for this expense,..........but it still hurts!
Glad to help Charles. When buying used, we all take our turn at tires. Statistically, the average new RV buyer only keeps it 4.5 years,.......so the second owners will always be stuck with the bill for tires and batteries at a minimum!
Hi Mark & Sue, This was one of the most comprehensive video that I have seen so far on the new tires and the Retrobands. Due to a conversation back in July, on Dave Botts video with another youtubers, I purchased 6 new tires (40Ft coach/No tag) with the steer axles getting the Retrobands. I feel I made a wise decision, although the wife though I was off my rocker.. Later she seen the crash video of a coach having a blow out and she has since changed her tune. I think the money and time spent is well worth it, plus I got something off my insurance as the Retrobands are considered safety equupment..
I look at it this way. I was a licensed mechanical engineer for 40 years. I know a thing or two about "unplanned" equipment failures and the consequences. There is an EXTREMELY high probability that I will never need these Rettrobands,....EVER. If I had to buy another set for $4500 to store in my dresser drawer to "guarantee" to take the probability of a bad event to ZERO, .......I would buy it. I do not want to "wish" I had these installed AFTER I have a high speed blowout. At the very least,......my wife Sue,.......would never go RVing again, assuming we both end up in one piece!
Wow, a lot of great information. I appreciate all the great work you do. I am about years out before I retire and look forward to getting my own rig. You gys are awesome,
Wonderful Video. As always you take something totally dull and turn it into something fun and engaging. Wish my math teacher was like that. I hope you never have to use these but it's great you have them. Had to edit: The topics you discuss are by no means "always dull"
What a great comment Mark. I was a math minor in college, so I get what your saying! I hope I NEVER have a story or video to make on my experience using the Rettrobands in a blowout. Making this video was tough enough,..... I can tell you the 24 pounds "unsprung" weight inside the rim is a non issue.
Glad you enjoyed it Frank! It was an anxious few years as I worried about the day when I would need tires. It was less about the cost,......and more about the logistics!
@@OurJourneyInMyles I appreciate the education. Just retired and am shopping for a 40' tag diesel pusher and, like you will be a full timer. Were you as nervous as I am before beginning your journey? :)
Excellent video showing the realism of what's involved in the relaxing life of rving! Seriously though, great decisions and watching someone like James do his work shows how much it's worth paying someone who is an expert at their job! It would have taken me a couple of days to figure out how to install the rettroband and then another couple of days to actually, well hopefully, have it done right!
James was so awesome that I told his boss he needs to make sure he doesn't ever want to quit. I asked if it was OK for me to tip him so I didn't get him in trouble. I wish everyone that worked on my rig was as professional as he was.
Another great video Mark & Sue! So much valuable information presented in layman’s terms with a big dose of humor. This is why watching your videos is so enjoyable. Please keep ‘em coming. We plan to full time in a few years and are soaking up all the info we can find while prepping.
Thanks, you too! My eyes popped out of my head when I saw the revs per mile calcs in the Michelin Tire Manuals. I called the Michelin Tire Main Offices and further discussed the importance of revs/mile of each "specific tire design model". It was after that call that I knew I needed to include a discussion of it in my video.
I had Gulfstream Tourmaster back in 2000. I had Goodyear steer tires. The left front came apart and wrapped around and looked like a recap and I totaled it. My wife did get hurt but it could of been worse. I will never run another Goodyear and will always have some sort of steer safe. This setup looks awesome.
Glad you both made it out of that accident in one piece. I really am trying to do everything as safe as I can. I run high quality brand new tires, had the coach four corner weights done so I know the individual actual wheel loading weights, so I know what tire PSI to use on each axle, to monitored with a name brand Tire Pressure Monitoring System, with the Rettroband run flat device installed inside the tire and by driving 65 mph or less. Whew,...... Oh yah,......I do one more thing. I cross my fingers.
I love the tech numbers with the tires. I am excited about it, although wide-eyed about the tire prices. Keep it coming… there are many geeks out here looking forward to seeing what’s going on with Myles! Thank you.
From the messages I am getting from folks, I am not the only one that was trusting a tire guy to match my revs/mile tires on my rig as best as possible. This is a game changer for planning your tandem tire changes. The tag and front tires have no axle connections through the pumpkin. It's the drive tire replacements you need to have a plan in place when doing.
Glad it was helpful Richard! Check out our recent visit to get the Version 2.0 of Rettrobands installed: RV LIVING | MOTORHOME TIRE BLOWOUT WHEEL ENHANCEMENT | NIRVC EXCLUSIVE | RETTROBAND VERSION 2 -EP199
I can not thank you enough. Again, I learned so much from your experience. It's only 1500 bucks a year. Next time, you buy the tire only; "saving" $4500. Although expensive... the peace of mind and comfort knowing you have those installed, is worth every penny... Priceless if something happens and you have to rely on that safety feature.
Driving the Newmar with a tag and comfort drive is so relaxing and smooth, you feel like your driving a Caddy. No shoulder or neck fatigue. Steering is solid as a rock. I just wanted to have the Rettrobands as my backup plan. I drive only 63.7 miles per hour, and always pay attention and hold on to the wheel with both hands. I would use three hands if I had another. The wife does ALL the Garmin work. You can never be too careful with 48,000 lbs flying down the road.
I spoke to the tire shop and NIRVC today about this product. Angie tells me the product is in a Version 2 status, as there were problems with the original Retro Band system with over tightening the device on installation which caused the product to fail on a couple of coaches (not catastrophic failures). She is not sure, given international shipping snafus and the like, when Retro Band systems will start flowing back into the US from Australia, but indicated they might start flying some of the product in. Also, this product may not work for tire sizes less than 275. As in the OJIM video, anything less than 275 was listed as "TBD" on Mark's write up. As my coach has 255 (or 265 with a lower profile rating) tires, there still might not be a Retro Band system which fits tires less than 275. So on to your insurance and towing videos to help me prepare for taking delivery of my coach the first week of April (first time owner, have rented many times).
Gr8 video. I started by saying that's too much detail I'm not watching but by the end I said "he's right" and that stuff is important. Weird how the inner tire lost all its air without being a "blow-out". Didn't realize about the rotations per mile and importance of matching tires esp on the drive axle. Maybe you can do a video someday on why so many people buy RV's (of any age) but don't want to maintain them - esp basic roof checks and repairs.
I was absolutely dumbfounded when my tire went flat in a repair shop we were in for 21 days. You couldn't tell by looking at it or pounding on it! MAYBE if it was the outer drive tire I could have beat on it better, but I tell you, I am sure glad I have TPMS to make sure I have air in the tires a few days before we THINK we are going to be traveling again after sitting overnight! You could pick up a nail right at the end of a travel day!
That is a lot of data to adsorb. I feel like I would make a good salesman for this product line. Thanks for the information. Well explained it such a way that I got a lot of knowledge from this video . Thanks Mark !
Thanks Boun! I knew I was going to make this video over 6 months ago. Had to patiently wait for my tire appointment. I hope I caught all the important points,......
Mark & Sue, Vicki and I really enjoyed meeting you yesterday at the TRVSS...wish we could have spend more time visiting with you. This is an excellent video and in the 40 minutes I have learned a ton, thank you. Hopefully we will catch up again down the road, travel safe friends, Greg & Vicki...Oh quick question; "How did University end up with the Retrobands?, Did they ship them to them for install?"
University Tire is the tire provider for NIRVC. They worked directly with NIRVC, and had my Rettrobands at their shop ready to install. They are only about 25 minutes away from NIRVC. NIRVC now has in-house equipment to mount and balance tires when installing the Rettrobands they offer.
Had almost the same issue on our older Frieghtliner chassis 04 and lost dash com on the Jbus. Turned out to be the VDC, replaced it and its working again. But, I did some research and found BlueFire for Motorhomes. Had to ditch the Scan Gauge but love that it communicates directly to the ECU and have my dash even if the Jbus fails.
I’m loving and sharing all your videos! You guys are so Thurrell I love it, So nice you show all the details that most youtubers miss! Your pretty funny 😆 too. lol Bless you guys and safe travels!🙏🏼
Thank you Mark and Sue for sharing this experience! I have to feel that anybody that doesn't get a Rettroband-esque system has never had a front blow out. I've had a front tire failure on a touring motorcycle and on my pick up (this one occurred next to a tractor trailer at 3am on the interstate). Neither incident worked out too well. We are trying to decide between a Class A and Class C. Whichever it ends up being, rest assured we'll get these rettrobands. These front wheel failures can be devastating and happen in a split second; especially at highway speeds.
I put them on because I figured I can save $4500 somewhere else down the line a few dollars at a time for years. I only get one chance to save our lives in a bad high speed blow out,......... in that one,....split,......second.
Kevin,...so glad to hear someone liked the details. I know it was long, but I needed to relay a lot of info. This video took over 32 hours to make,.....
Enjoy watching your content. Very informative. With regards to the rettroband, the only concern I have would be the rettroband making contact with the tire and the pothole when flexing as you run over a large pothole. It takes away some of the tire absorption clearance and if the rettroband makes contact with the pothole, it might cause some bone jarring damage to the suspension components. Just a thought. I think I would feel better with the tyron bands.
Thanks for sharing,.........I can tell you that I never felt any tire " bottoming out" since having the Rettrobands installed. Having seen & owned both these products up close & personal, the Tyron Band seems like a toy to me compared to the Rettroband now that it is available. I will be getting the "Revised" Rettroband installed this November 2021 on my way to Florida.
Man oh man brother, you have gone into great detail as to tire wear and even reading some of our fellow subscriber comments has helped reinforce how important it is to maintain continuity with tires. Now as we prep for our first flight out as newbie travelers, I am thankful for this info sir. We will watch a few more of your videos.
I appreciate that! Tires are the most important and expensive issue when dealing with the RV life, next to maintenance and repairs. It has to be calculated in when deciding what equipment you are prepared to live in and support financially during your RV adventure.
Appreciate the detailed explainations👍 Replacing all 6 Michelin tires soon (no tag coach). Currently running 295/80/22.5's but want to move to a wider footprint like a 315, especially on the steer tires.
When I got new tires, I first called Newmar to see if I too could go up from 315 width tires to 365 wide tires. I wanted to be certain they would fit inside the fiberglass wheel wells and work with my existing width aluminum alloy rims. No and No. I stayed with the Michelin 315's!
@@OurJourneyInMyles Good suggestion and I can understand their answer as that would have been a 50mm increase. Our coach is a Tiffin Allegro Bus and in subsequent years they increased the steer tires from 295 to 315 for a 20mm increase. I have examined the wheel wells and the fiberglass enclosure and it looks like it can easily accommodate. Will check with them though before proceeding. Thought about going to 315s in the duals as well but have to measure the width between the two tires as Michelin suggests keeping a certain gap for air movement / cooling. Mostly interested in larger width tires up front since it would allow me to inflate to lower pressure and add even more comfort to the ZF independent front suspension and perhaps add to the handling aspects.
so if you had known at the time you could have put the xa2 on the tag and bought a second one for the other side of the tag and just moved the old tag tire from the corresponding side up to the drive axel until you were ready to?
That works in theory, but the XA2's haven't been made for quite a while now, and you could be putting on a tire that is 2 or 3 years old right out of the warehouse. I wanted to "reset" my ability to mix and match the movement of my tires from axle to axles, and chose to put on the most current generation model tires that are being made today IN LARGE VOLUME. I have an advantage that all my tires are the same size. My goal is to always have two year old or less tires on the front. My tags right now are my oldest tires at 3 years old.
Another awesome video Mark & Sue! So glad you saved that $8 bucks so you did not break your budget. They probably knocked off that much for you since you helped with manual labor during the install. Thanks for putting in all the hard work to shoot, edit and share this video and also for working out a great discount for everyone. So will the new size of Rettrobands that are coming out fit our Class A Gasser? Thanks! See you next week in Tampa!
YES! The 255 and 275R80 x 22.5 tire size Rettroband will be available in "late spring" per Angie Morell of NIRVC. I hope NIRVC prices them to sell like hotcakes! Plenty of folks have these tires on their rigs.
I’m just not convinced on the Centromatic Disc device. The wheel is separate from the super heavy duty axle the disc is mounted to. I would like to see some video of those working
Hello Mark &Sue; I’ve got a Qst on the yellow retro bands have you noticed any change in the ride of your coach? Since switching out to the newer bigger bands. I’m thinking of getting them but it’s alot of $$$$ I know you can’t put a price on safety.
We noticed ZERO change in ride quality with the Rettrobands Version 1 or 2. We do feel a TREMENDOUS reduction in the anxiety we had worrying about a front tire blow out. The $4500 price most folks would pay times 10 in a heartbeat during a blowout scenario if given the chance. I did not want to be that person,......and decided I will save the money in some other endeavor in my life.
@@OurJourneyInMyles , Thank you Mark, appreciate your response guess I need to give up Diet Coke & get them, like you say it’s peace of mind & reducing the anxiety wondering as we drive down the road. Safe Travels to you & Sue. We’re going full time in June we sold our house hope to see you on our travels.
Thank you for this video! ND very timely information as we prepare for "almost full-timing" next year. And yes, new tires and safety products are on the To Do list. I hope we get to meet someday. BTW, one of our sons did get his Masters at UWM. Thanks again!
In January 2020, Sue & I were honored to be interviewed by hosts Nicole & Jason of the Podcast "The Nomadic Traveler", a travel Podcast about getting out of your house, off of technology and out experiencing life. In this Part 1 of 2 Podcast episode, we discussed our most popular video "RV LIVING COSTS - ONE YEAR FULL TIME TRAVEL IN A CLASS A MOTORHOME - EP76" published August 2019. Use the following link to listen to Part 1 of 2 of this audio podcast: www.podbean.com/ew/pb-nk4a2-ce0f15 We will be publishing our 6 month update to this August 2019 video, and expect it to be out in January 2020.
@Jason M. Lawrence Hey Jason! We had intended to add a video insert to our tire video about the upcoming podcast, but the video was already 10 minutes too long! We decided to refer people to it AFTER THE FIRST AIRING! We are so excited to hear it. It's like your first true love,..........we will always remember our first podcast!
Any large "truck" tire shop by now has encountered removing and working with Tyron Tire Bands. Go on line and look at the UA-cam videos so YOU know how they are removed. You need a place with good modern HYDRAULIC or PNEUMATIC cylinder tire changing machines. If a tech is doing it in the field, you will need the Tyron Tire Removal Tool Kit. Look in your RV. If you bought used, the kit mayu be in the RV. www.tyron-usa.com/portfolio-3-column/
What did you do with the two Tyron rings you had removed and replaced with 2 Rettroband rings? Wouldn't they be of value to put on the rear drive outer tires?
I tried to sell them for $200 on Facebook Marketplace,.....and eventually gave them away. They are way more complex to remove than Rettrobands, and I just didn't want the complications during changing a flat on the road. Yes,.......they would be a help to maybe limit damage to the rig back in the rear. I am mainly worried about kust maintaining steering control. If a person had tons of dough, you could probably put the Rettrobands on ALL (8) tires!!! You would be the safest Motorhome on the road.
@@OurJourneyInMyles When we get to fulltime and decide if we really enjoy fulltime, then trade our current coach in this gives us something to think about for our new or newer coach. 😊
We have a 2014 Newmar Dutch Star 4369 and use the Michelin Tire Loading Charts. We have been weighed five separate times. Two have been individual wheel weights. We run 130psi in the fronts and 95psi in all the others. Run 35psi in the Honda Odyssey.
No. You just need them for the front tires. I have NEVER heard of anyone putting them on all wheels. If someone had unlimited money, that would truly be a safe rig!
Did you really have any idea how much Maintenance cost was involved prior to purchasing your rig? You are one of few that really show it and it is very educational, along with your spreadsheets. I find the costs much higher than I would have even imagined. Thanks for all your work on the great videos!
I would have to honestly say NO. I am almost ready to make a spreadsheet to see if buying used was a wise choice. Until I put pen to paper, I can't say at this time. I will say that the new price probably would have scared me off,.... and I would have went gas. I am SO GLAD I went diesel, with an engine brake and tag axle. 450 HP is none too much, and we are just pulling a minivan. Mountain driving is a non issue in our rig. I literally don't have to use my brakes going down the steep grades. Keep in mind, I am going down them the same speed I went up it. Stay tuned for our upcoming 6 month cost update, and our repair video we made after our tire installation.
🇨🇦 incredible fantastic video. The best I’ve seen thus far. Safety is of up most importance’s..was the tire shop recommended or did u select it through research? We will be future rv’ers. 🇨🇦
This tire shop is the one that National Indoor RV Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia has decided to work with to supply their tires. It is the University Tire on Mitchell Bridge Road in Athens Georgia. As of this writing, NIRVC now has the tire mounting and computerized dynamic balancing equipment in house and will be installing tires and Rettrobands at their shop.
I would say almost NO trucks have Rettrobands,.......but MANY trucks have Centramatic Balancers. And I'm thinking they are all running retreaded motorhome tires that we are all supplying them with!
@@OurJourneyInMyles I don't think they are supposed to put retread on front tires but they may. The trucking industry needs to look into this for safety .
The XLine Energy series tires has a much more solid feel than the XZA2 tires I had on the rig. The XZA2 tires I moved from the front to the tag only had 23,000 on them, at 2 years old. I am fairly certain the "feel" isn't just in my head as wishful thinking! You don't even know the Rettrobands are mounted in the tires!
I am going to assume you saw the e-mail last year from Brett Davis the founder and CEO of NIRVC regarding the few failures they had with the rettroband. I admire a CEO like this who steps up to the plate and is honest with his customers and says hey we did testing in the lab and it appears “we” caused some of these by over tightening. These are really spendy; but in the end cheaper than replacing wheels and more due to a blow out.
Yes, I got the email about the Rettrobands from Brett. If it wasn't for Covid & all the overseas shipping issues, all of these initial units would have already been replaced. You are correct, he is a standup guy and great CEO. I expect to get my Rettrobands replaced in November of 2021 when I pass thru the 1350 Hurricane Shoals Rd NE Lawrenceville, GA area location on our way to Florida for the 2021/2022 winter. You are better off with the current units than NOT having then. The new Rettrobands are a fail safe with an internal steel band to prevent over-tightening them from ever being an issue.
A tyron band properly installed into the "well" of your rim, should make virtually no noise or shaking or movement while driving down the road. If you have noise and motion in the tire, you need to get it looked at immediately.
Thank you Antoon,........we went on a bike and barge in your country a few years ago. Beautiful city,........had a wonderful time. Can't imagine driving the RV on some of those canal roads! Thanks for stopping by,.........

Mark and Sue really enjoy your videos! Our coach is very similar, so could you share the centramatics part numbers you purchased ? It seems to be a little challenging to find which model to buy for steer, drive and tag. I will also do my own research, but knowing what you bought will help confirm if I’m right. Ours is a 2013 Dutch Star 4347 on a freightliner tag.....so seems like it would be very similar to your 2014. Thanks!
I believe the EXACT models I purchased are in my Amazon page store,……… When you think you have the right part numbers,..but call them up FOR SURE! Get prices & exact part numbers from them,..with shipping included! If you have the right numbers for Amazon,…the free prime shipping total may be a better deal overall for you.
Good morning. I've watched several of your videos that I have came across last night. My wife and I are considering buying a class A motorhome. Not as long as yours maybe a 35 ft not sure yet. Maybe in 2yrs time(bummer) looking to live in it but not doing full time RVing cross country. Would you suggest maybe a 3 yr old used RV(financing)would be better? I'll keep watching. Thanks guys. 👍
Conventional wisdom of all the online forums say a 1 to 2 year old class A used rig is the best bang for the buck. Remember to buy (Finance) your rig BEFORE you sell your house and BEFORE you retire so the bank will lend you money. Used RV's are looked down on by most lenders that give good rates, and welcomed by lenders that will soak you with high interest.
that newer smaller tire probably matched quite well with the worn down old tire. Small differences side to side are no problem because of the differential. That is what it is for.
Great video and product review. Yes the retro bands are pretty pricey but if they save you and your coach from disaster in a blowout they are worth it. I don't recall you mentioning it but in the event of a blowout do you need to also replace the retroband? If so that's going to be some expensive flat tire.
The way I understand it, if all goes as planned, the tire will stay in one piece, NOT damage your coach body work, not damage the $1000 rim, allow you to control the coach to get to the side of the road, and you can re-use the Rettroband. Sounds like a good plan to me! Don't want to be like the Class A that was caught on a dash cam that went sailing through a freeway median strip while pulling a pickup truck, then rolled over. That video is all over the internet.
@@OurJourneyInMyles Agree its a good investment. I was just reading story in Newmar owners FB group about coach sustaining $22,000 in damage from front passenger tire blow out
Hello Mark, My name is Brett Davis and I’m with National Indoor RV Centers. I just finished watching your video after Angie sent me the link. What a great video! You did a wonderful job! I’m only commenting on this viewer’s comment to clarify one thing. Should anyone Rettroband customer have a blowout, all they need to do is let Rettroband or NIRVC know and we will replace the Rettroband involved in the blowout (regardless of any damage to the Rettroband) with a brand new Rettroband installed and balanced free of charge. These Rettrobands are meant to be a one time purchase that an owner can move from coach to coach. All the best, Brett
@@NIRVC Thanks for clarifying what Rettroband customers can expect from their new safety device,.....great service and support! I have added a shortened version of your comment in the video description. This will make it easy for folks with the same questions about "re-usability" to find the best, qualified and correct answer. Thanks Brett.
👍 Thanks Mark. And, if you’re around, I’d love to meet you in Tampa. I’ll be in the Rettroband booth during the day and the AIM Club campground at night servicing free dinner, drinks and entertainment every night.
$4500 for the "set" that you put in both front tires. Additional $225 for installation. Very expensive up front.........but very cheap insurance on your rig & life,......
@@OurJourneyInMyles thanks for getting back to me, I seen the video last year and just rewatched today. Piece of mind for sure, a must have. Thanks again
It is for just the front two steering wheels. Those are the ones that are the most important to maintain control with. My front drivers side 315/80R22.5 Michelin tire has 8150 pounds on it, and I need to run 130 psi in them per my last weigh in by RVSEF!
Hmmm... I'd be more concerned about having different diameter tires in a dually set than I would be concerned about spinning the differential three revs per mile. With two different diameters in a dually set, one of them is going to get scrubbed, isn't it?
You are SO correct. I am disappointed the tire repair place two years ago did that to me. I learned the hard way, on the fly. I have everything changed and corrected now, but wanted to help others understand what I did not know back then. Thanks for stopping by.
Changed after 43,500 miles and 6.5 years. RV tires will always "age out", and will never be "worn out". Six years seems to be when most folks change tires to be on the safe side. A person can roll the dice for as long as they want after that,.......
Two things happened here. First, when I made the appointment two months ago, NIRVC did not have tire mounting and balancing equipment. I mentioned this is a prior episode # 94. At this time, NIRVC was contracted ing all their tire tech work with University Tire to come to NIRVC. Since I had so many tires being mounted and dismounted, I did not want the tech to be driving back and forth between NIRVC and their shop to balance and dismount/install/or remount 8 tires. So I had my agenda set up for them to do it ALL at the University Tire Store Shop. Now that NIRVC has all the inhouse equipment, I would expect that the tires will still be provided by University Tire,........and probably share the tire install work based on their schedule and workload at the time. This seems to be the best of both worlds now. The "ROOM" to park your coach and work on it at NIRVC,..... the equipment needed now available at NIRVC, .......and the workforce of either crew to get you done and on your way as soon as possible!
We actually paid the $4495 list price,....... The $250 off special I worked out for viewers when working on making the video,...... a month after I had my tires & Rettrobands installed. I just took one for the team,.....although I must admit it was not on purpose.

Glad I found your channel. I don't own a motorhome, I just enjoy your honesty and humor.
The INFLATED tire diameter between the brands you are using can only vary by .25 inches!
I don't know why, but it was especially exhilirating to see these professionals at work. James fitting the retroband onto the rim while it was inside the tire was a joy. 😁
As for the fifi, fifis are small, but foo-foos are big, so go with foo-foos! 😂
My current favorite FiFi is the large ones that are made by Stanley Tool and sold at Home Depot!
I rolled 17 miles, to our destination at 50 MPH after a blow out with Tyron.
No price is to high for that kind of safety!! That can be a life or death decision! Thank you for a great video! Oh, and Sue, Mark has a tremendously soothing voice😊
And my snoring at night is soothing too since I got my CPAP machine 20 years ago! I am quiet as a church mouse,.......unless the mask is leaking.
I totally agree you cannot but a price on safety. Unfortunately I think some companies take advantage of this. I find it hard to believe they have to charge that much for a couple chunks of plastic and adjusting hardware.
I had to come back to this video a second time to make sure I had the information right! Fantastic information and much appreciated Mark & Sue Love the boingy-bouncy technical terminology as well
Glad it was helpful Michael! We think the Rettroband is the way to go.
This was a very informative video. My whole world rides with me in our rig and this just makes safety sense! Keep up the quality video blogs. We appreciate you guys. Go Pack Go!
Thanks, will do Edward!
Yes I understood almost everything you said, and yes my brain now hurt ! ! ! ! !
This was my 2nd time watching .
I am flattered Jeff,......
I really like the ideal of protecting one of your bigger investments . I still have written down Angie Morell and phone number thanks.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rodney,.......
You cannot put a price on life,$5000 is a good price for saving you wheels and your life’s.love watching your channel so informative
Thanks Craig,....our thoughts exactly. One bad flat tire experience could end my RVing career.
I think you folks are doing an outstanding job putting the time into educating people like me. Thanks
@@Gearjammer741 Was gonna ask Mark about using the existing tag tire so all drive tires match. Thx!
Good Morning Mark & Sue ☕️, This is the best video out there that includes both tire and rettroband in-depth install, education and cost breakdown for the Rving community! Great Job!
Thanks Ben. This video took me longer than anyone I have ever done,........about 32 hours!
Wow... This is incredible information... You are extremely detailed... Thank you soo much for sharing....
Glad it was helpful! Now you know everything I do! Make sure to tell others what you learned to keep them safe,...... Thanks for stopping by.
You put some serious time making this video and it came out great. Nice work.
I appreciate that! This was a really important video for me to share with everyone that will have this expense and experience if they own their rig long enough, or buy a used one like I did. We had planned for this expense,..........but it still hurts!
That was awesome review of your tire Change out and run flat apparatus. The tire and DOT numbering and destination are also very helpful. Thank you.
Glad to help Charles. When buying used, we all take our turn at tires. Statistically, the average new RV buyer only keeps it 4.5 years,.......so the second owners will always be stuck with the bill for tires and batteries at a minimum!
This video is such a great public service. Thank you!
Thanks Zeeb,.......I DID feel I needed to tell other MH owners what it is like when their turn in the "tire buying barrel" finally comes up!
@@OurJourneyInMyles BTW, NIRV has been nothing but good to us and yes, if your looking for cheap then they may not be for you..
University tire In Athens does great work. Live in Toccoa GA , and have used them before. Great video!
I was impressed enough with James that I still remember his name. He was such a hard working, professional, polite mechanic.
Wow, a lot of great information. I appreciate all the great work you do. I am about years out before I retire and look forward to getting my own rig. You gys are awesome,
Glad it was helpful and to have you along on our adventure.
What an incredibly informative and valuable video. Thank you Sue and Mark!
You are smart to do all your homework first. That way all your decisions will be based on facts and knowledge of what works and doesn't work!
Great job on the video Mark. Have not heard about the rotations per mile before. Great info. Stay safe, stay well.
Wow 😮 so much good information! Your time and effort are appreciated! Keep up the good work! 🥰👍🏻
Thanks Uno!
You are good! Very detailed and i learned so much. Thanks. YOLORvAdventure
I really enjoyed watching this video.Very informative from start to finish.oh and an excellent camera helper.😂You folks work very well together.
Thanks Brian,.......Sue really is the best!
Its an exciting time for you Michael! Enjoy all the decisions along the way as part of the adventure.
The FMCA Michelin tire program saves you money... We used it this June for our 13 Vista 30T and saved several hundred dollars....
We agree,.........it may not be the absolute best price, but it is the easiest way to get a fair price without any monkeying around.
Very educational Mark.
Thanks for sharing especially with your usual humorous way.
Your welcome Russell. We learned a lot the hard way.
I feel like I would make a good salesman

Great info! Especially about matching tires. Understand that some run-flat devices require special tools to remove. Thx!
Glad you enjoyed this video. It was a ton of work!
@@OurJourneyInMyles Thx!
These are all great backup plans! I hope I get lucky and don't have to do any of them!

Great video! Love seeing videos that better educate us on operating, (and maintaining) the coach
Thanks Randy,.........we throw in the travel videos just for fun!
What an incredible video, excellent illustration, great detail!!!
@@OurJourneyInMyles will be looking forward to that content, as I’m keenly interested in this topic. Thx.
@@deanh7190 Do some serious deep dive searches on irv2.com in general, and in the Tiffin Forum groups as well. Bet it has already been researched.
so if you had known at the time you could have put the xa2 on the tag and bought a second one for the other side of the tag and just moved the old tag tire from the corresponding side up to the drive axel until you were ready to?

I’ve got a Qst on the yellow retro bands have you noticed any change in the ride of your coach? Since switching out to the newer bigger bands. I’m thinking of getting them but it’s alot of $$$$ I know you can’t put a price on safety.
We noticed ZERO change in ride quality with the Rettrobands Version 1 or 2. We do feel a TREMENDOUS reduction in the anxiety we had worrying about a front tire blow out. The $4500 price most folks would pay times 10 in a heartbeat during a blowout scenario if given the chance. If you bought used, the kit mayu be in the RV. www.tyron-usa.com/portfolio-3-column/

you can get that large pad from bed rug on line I have one works great
Thanks Ranger!

I drove 18 wheeler, always prayed not to have drive tire blow out. What psi do u run?
We have a 2014 Newmar Dutch Star 4369 and use the Michelin Tire Loading Charts. We have been weighed five separate times. Two have been individual wheel weights. We run 130psi in the fronts and 95psi in all the others. Run 35psi in the Honda Odyssey.
Are the Retrrobands also recommended for drive and tag axle wheels?
Excellent vid ya'll.
Thank you,......
That's pretty cool that makes me wonder now if some of the big trucks have those on front of their tractors trucks.
@@lynngatlin4469 You are correct,.........I'm thinking we are supplying all the casings for the other position tires!
Now that you have had your new tired on, how are you liking them
The XLine Energy series tires has a much more solid feel than the XZA2 tires I had on the rig. The XZA2 tires I moved from the front to the tag only had 23,000 on them, at 2 years old. I am fairly certain the "feel" isn't just in my head as wishful thinking! You don't even know the Rettrobands are mounted in the tires!
@@OurJourneyInMyles we just bought the XZE serie, so far i like them. Not to sure what the difference is between XZE and your is. Any thoughts.
Love your RV life. Nice couple
Thanks Barn,..glad to share it. We are not taking it for granted,... Thanks for stopping by.
I expect to get my Rettrobands replaced in November of 2021 when I pass thru the 1350 Hurricane Shoals Rd NE
Lawrenceville, GA area location on our way to Florida for the 2021/2022 winter. You are better off with the current units than NOT having then. The new Rettrobands are a fail safe with an internal steel band to prevent over-tightening them from ever being an issue.
why would tyro bands make it sound like my tire is going flat?
A tyron band properly installed into the "well" of your rim, should make virtually no noise or shaking or movement while driving down the road. If you have noise and motion in the tire, you need to get it looked at immediately.
Dear SIr, i seen, quaid a lot but : copliments, complement, complement. An unbeleavebel information. From the Netherlands tony. Vermeulen
Thank you Antoon,........we went on a bike and barge in your country a few years ago. Beautiful city,........had a wonderful time. Can't imagine driving the RV on some of those canal roads! Thanks for stopping by,.........
This video has been UPDATED with the new version 2.0 of Rettrobands! Check out: RV LIVING | MOTORHOME TIRE BLOWOUT WHEEL ENHANCEMENT | NIRVC EXCLUSIVE | RETTROBAND VERSION 2 -EP199 ua-cam.com/video/HMVy537yAhU/v-deo.html
Question- were your rettrobands one the ones recalled? Are you pleased with the new version. If so do you still feel they are better than Tyron bands.
I have the Version 2.0 installed now. Check out: ua-cam.com/video/HMVy537yAhU/v-deo.html By comparison, IMHO, the Tyron is a toy.
Thanks!
I believe the EXACT models I purchased are in my Amazon page store,………

@@OurJourneyInMyles thank you for replying. Be safe guys.🙏
that newer smaller tire probably matched quite well with the worn down old tire. Small differences side to side are no problem because of the differential. That is what it is for.
Good point John,....
I was just reading story in Newmar owners FB group about coach sustaining $22,000 in damage from front passenger tire blow out
Hello Mark,
My name is Brett Davis and I’m with National Indoor RV Centers.
All the best,
Brett
@@NIRVC Thanks for clarifying what Rettroband customers can expect from their new safety device,.....great service and support! I have added a shortened version of your comment in the video description. This will make it easy for folks with the same questions about "re-usability" to find the best, qualified and correct answer. Thanks Brett.
👍 Thanks Mark. And, if you’re around, I’d love to meet you in Tampa. I’ll be in the Rettroband booth during the day and the AIM Club campground at night servicing free dinner, drinks and entertainment every night.
nice video thanks
You are welcome Edmond. Thanks for the view.
Great info on safety. 👍☕️🍩
Thanks David,...that was my goal.
Looks like something I need to look into
You will be impressed with them,....and probably will be like I am,....hoping to never really need them.
The $4500 for the retro band, is that for both, or just one wheel?
$4500 for the "set" that you put in both front tires. Additional $225 for installation. Very expensive up front.........but very cheap insurance on your rig & life,......
@@OurJourneyInMyles thanks for getting back to me, I seen the video last year and just rewatched today. Piece of mind for sure, a must have. Thanks again
How many wheels did you get protected for $4500? Its not just one wheel is it? I assume it was all 8 tires for that $4500
It is for just the front two steering wheels.
Thanks for stopping by.
how many millage you change tire
Changed after 43,500 miles and 6.5 years. RV tires will always "age out", and will never be "worn out". Six years seems to be when most folks change tires to be on the safe side. A person can roll the dice for as long as they want after that,.......
I am confused. You are at a University Tire but you say that the Rettroband device is an NIRVC exclusive. Did I miss something?
Keep a bottle of soapy water. Spray tire down and look for the bubbles. It’s how we do it in aviation.
Yes, we did that at the gas station I worked at!
What will they come up with next? Hope you guys got a good price:)
We actually paid the $4495 list price,....... The $250 off special I worked out for viewers when working on making the video,...... a month after I had my tires & Rettrobands installed. I just took one for the team,.....although I must admit it was not on purpose.
