    Pat and Paul got there Fifi from the same place I got mine; the OJiM Amazon Store. Come to think about it, I got my TSD card with the OJiM link. I see a pattern here. It is good to have friends to rely upon or at least give emotional support when issues arise. Great video.

      Have to be honest Jim. His pad is the BEST. It's the "Husky" Brand kneeling pads sold at Home Depot. Its large, and slightly softer than the Gorilla Brand ones I USED TO HAVE in our Amazon Store. They LOOK identical, but I prefer the Husky. The Gorilla is a smidge too stiff for my old knees. NOW I have put the Guidesman "Green Moss" pads back in the store because they are the perfect density. They last about 2 years with constant use. Someday, when Paul isn't looking, I will swap out his pad with one of my Gorilla's. He will never know what hit him.

      So I just confirmed with Paul that the Exhaust Gas Recirculating (EGR) Cooler had failed. God only knows if the belt failure RAISING the temp was the final nail in the coffin for the EGR Cooler apparatus. It started to leak WATER internally into places water should not be,..........very thankful for the Cummins sensors that said to "STOP" the engine now! Repair was about $8k because you have to take A LOT of stuff apart to get to the EGR, and work from INSIDE THE COACH ABOVE and OUTSIDE THE COACH below the engine. @@OurJourneyInMyles yes I heard the green belts are stronger and last longer, but the electric fan conversion is more efficient, so saves fuel and less power is robbed from the engine than operating the hydraulic fans... the newer Prevosts are now coming from the factory with the electric fans too... but need to have the high output alternator or alternatively maybe power them through the house batteries instead of chassis batteries

    Newbie question here.
    We are probably going to trade in our Class C for a Class A 40’ tag axle.
    We plan to tow a Jeep or my Ram 2500 4x4.
    When you tow in flat country what do you set your shifter at.
    Same question for hilly and same question for mountains.
    Do you ever feel the tow ?
    It would be great if you would cover it in a video
    Also in congested areas do you select a lower gear so it doesn’t shift so much?

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  2 роки тому +1

      Our rig is 450 hp, and has lots of torque, but driving a motorhome is typically slow going, JUST LIKE IT SHOULD BE. I rarely manually shift. The Allison Transmission is 6 speeds and it way smarter than every driver on the planet. It will protect your engine & trans from overspeeding. On our caravan, someone with a gas rig have some down hill issues, and blew a V10,...........and after it was repaired, blew the trans 500 miles later. It city, freeway or mountains, I put it in drive and let the shift computers do what they do best!

    If you can stay under 40' consider a gasser. They're arguably more reliable and inarguably much easier and cheaper to work on. HP to weight is often better than diesel coaches too. That means you can get up the hill better but while turning more RPMs than a diesel. Optional Liquid Spring suspensions give a much better ride than stock gasser suspensions.

    It's not good to mix colors of antifreeze because they are different from red to purple so on I believe purple is for engine with water jackets around the cylinders red is for those don't have jackets

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  2 роки тому

      YES,.....the colors are important. I ultimately had to use the Blue Fleetguard ES Compleat to mix with my Shell Rotella Fully Formulated antifreeze. I was unable to find the Shell Rotella Fully Formulated in gallons,.........only in 55 gallon drums! What da heck! That is the first time I have ever had a BAD experience with Gaffney Freightliner in South Carolina,.......they set me up for failure,...........and I feel I got screwed. Loves is the only place that is a contracted FIXED 28 cent discount off per gallon of diesel. Pilot is only associated with RV fuel discounts using Good Sams for a paltry 8 cents off per gallon. We stopped going to Pilot the minute Good Sam's told Pilot they couldn't participate in the Open Roads program.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  2 роки тому

The NEW EGR REPAIR also requires some modifications to the engine because the replacement kit is called an "Upfit" or "improved" version of the old part.

    I find your videos interesting, but these big motorhomes seem unreliable and very costly to repair. I've been thinking about becoming a part-timer but part of me thinks a comfy car and hotels might actually be cheaper. Is that crazy?

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  Рік тому

      No. That is not crazy. You absolutely must match your travel plans with your budget so you can have money to do things once you arrive. I will say traveling in an RV like ours is completely different than hotel or VRBO vacationing. We wake up at home where ever we are,.......everyday,........every place. We take that for granted until we have to travel by plane or car again. The past week we have been living with friends while our rig is being repaired. We miss it dearly, and can't wait to get back to normal.
