The little drinks bottle you noticed on the back of the Sportster's mini-pannier is probably a petrol-safe aluminium fuel bottle.
Those Sportsters have such small fuel tanks that if you're going anywhere further than commuting distance, you need an emergency fuel supply.
That little 1-2 liter bottle will mean the difference between rolling into the nearest service station on fumes, or finding out how desperately you need to renew your gym membership.
I've got something similar on my V-max 1200 as the tank holds less than 12 liters.
    Beautiful video as always!

Thanks for your mini series. Devon has always been my favourite county. My home is now Andalucía... also beautiful but very different. You noticed how inquisitive the gorgeous ponies are on Dartmoor.
Could I make a small suggestion? Safer for you if you park the bike leaning away from the tent. If one of the ponies decides to give it a nudge, it'd be a very painful experience. Wouldn't want to see a video of you from a hospital bed!
    Super video as always.
I also love the way you never set yourself up as being the expert unlike so many bike vloggers.
Great stuff. Cheers to you both🍺

I'd be interested to see if you like Sportsters if you rode one. You want to ride one before you buy. Putting tents up: always tricky. Whenever I slept rough whilst touring southern Europe on my XT500E as a young man, I would always lean the bike away from me. You don't want it falling off the side stand on top of you. I hope the bike started after the little horse's attention.
Another interesting scenic video. Glad you slept well.

When I was 19 I spent 5 years moto camping 24/7 so you could say I'm a hardened camper.. I must first say I originally came from a city so watching you was like a reflection of watching myself at the start of the 1984 bike season.. leaving the city and deciding to live on the road.. I built all sorts of shelters and found a bender built with Hazel or and willow were the best through summer and winter.. but I mainly used them through the winter..
Lighting my first 10 fires used up loads of time and energy removing petrol/gas from my bike to light the fire.. but eventually learnt all the bush craft I needed to survive and could build a shelter and light a fire whatever the conditions.. So back to your video thanks for making a old school bike pi## himself laughing at your expense..

great video mate, I have the resurgence jeans and i'm already looking at my 2nd pair to go alongside them. I'd totally recommend them to anyone. Only thing is because they are a really quality fabric I found they wore my gloss coat out on the triumph tank quite quickly so stick a pair of tank grips or protective pads on the sides if you go for them

A great vlog Freddie. I love Dartmoor. The two ponies chasing each other were having so much fun.
I hope you don’t mind me making a suggestion for your safety. If you put the canopy on the opposite side to the side-stand, should by any chance the side-stand sinks into soft ground or the bike topples, it will fall away from you and not on the tent.

Been watching your videos for a little while now and really love what you’re doing. I think the first I saw was around the DGR. I rode for my 4th year out of the past 5 here is New Jersey, USA. My wife is even enjoying your content, and she doesn’t have much patience for most moto vlogs. I actually had a white sportster like the one in the cafe, and I’ve seen you talk about them in a few of your videos. I have to say, I didn’t care for it and got rid of it after just a year. It looks narrow, but it’s actually surprisingly wide for its size, and though I liked the mini apes on my test ride, I liked them less and less the more I had it. The other problem with it as a commuter bike is that between the big front wheel and mini apes, it’s not very nimble. Turn in is sluggish, which isn’t really helpful as a commuter. I had an air cooled Bonnie at the time, and found myself rarely riding the Sportster in favor of the Bonnie. Wound up selling/trading both the ‘15 Bonnie and the Sportster and getting a 2020 T120 Black. Loving that bike, and loving your channel. Cheers from the US. Bill

The force is strong with the Sportster. They're cool, infinitely customisable and available at every budget. But a word of caution. They suck! I had one and I loved it in so many ways. But it is one of only two bikes I've owned, (there have been many) that actively tried to kill me. The other was a Vespa PX 200.
You strike me as a biker, the Sportster is not for bikers. They don't handle, their braking is shocking and even customised as a tourer, (as mine was) they are back breaking and hideously uncomfortable.
Would I buy another? Absolutely! They're fantastic and cool. But as a second bike.
    Try before you buy Bro👍

When we first heard of "wild" swimming in the UK we wondered what they meant. Is there anybother kind? I get the regulation of camping as you would end up getting permanent camps with no sanitation.
I recently rode 1200 miles in West Australia, from Albany , inland through wheatbelt, not the drier interior, as far as north of Geraldton, past Kalbarri and cultuvation into station country. To my east a vast expanse of spirit country.
I rode my 1900 Roadliner and camped...in caravan parks, so not wild, in a swag. Your Wingman is similar to my swag tent, except it has higher headroom and a flap verandah. My swag has a thick mattress and is hard to compress. Its ok in the back of a ute but huge on a bike.I kept warm but had no room for gear or changing gear plus condensation is an issue.Just as welll the Yamaha has a long frame as my swag is bulky despite fitted straps and extra straps to hold it on the bike.
Good video. We visited Dartmoor 4 years ago and coming from Australia we welcomed cool weather and just naturally gravitated to the empty wild spots near the CheesRing tor.
    Good work Freddie.

Things are very different in Australia- the freedom you have out there must be almost unparalleled! Monika often mentions it (she's from Lithuania), and she's always amazed in the UK- everyone owns every meter of land, so it is often hard to actually get to a certain beauty spot, because it may be someone's land!

Sorry the size of the tent makes for a stupid investment - get a small trekking tent /sleeping bag (choice of seasons) and a simple trekking mattress. Save some space weight and packs easily compared to one big item. Cheaper easier to store at home - better when one of the items beaks/wears out so you just have to replace part of the set up. Can be used individuallly. Don't be fooled by buying because its 'motorbike specific'. And you can buy the individual elements mixing makes sizes colours etc etc wher the item is made (buy British) and choose your own budget. Struggling to find one reason to support the purchase of such a tent. Weight distribution on bike ? - reasons not to buy keep coming ....

Just a couple of points about Dartmoor National Park and camping. Not meant as harsh criticism, just a couple of things you should know. You mentioned getting a fire going at your camp, it's actually illegal to have an open fire on the moors. So is flying a drone!
But you are right, it is a beautiful part of the country!
I am so grateful to live here.

Great video Freddie. Beautiful scenery. Very similar to the Black mountains on the edge of the brecon Beacons where I live. Some great biking roads here. They filmed some of the recent Triumph Tiger comercial there back last year. You must check it out next time you're in Wales. Also never seen you do a video on the Ducati Scrambler. Give me a shout if your ever down this way. I'll let you have a ride on mine so that you can give your impressions. Keep up the great work. :)

Ps, for lazy fire makers, get yourself a BushBox stove. Self contained fire and you can cook on it! Win-win!

Has anyone experienced broken telescope aluminium arch pipes yet? I have.
The 2 telescope aluminium arch pipes don't hold up for long. In my case both pipes broke already after only some days usage.
These pipes need to be more pre-curved - there is just too much tension when installed.
PS: Replaced the pipes with DIY 6mm fiberglass poles, 8 mm aluminium joints and some hot glue.

Freddie, if you buy a sportster, make sure you have a good dentist to put your fillings back in your teeth. Those Sportster really vibrate, the girlfriend will like that part. Back in 1964 during our honeymoon we rode across Dartmoor from Croyde Bay to Brixham on our BSA Super Rocket/Watsonian Monza sidecar outfit. Great video. Thanks.

Well I pressed the like button 2 minutes in...your intro was very nice and I looked forward to your accent and commentary. Beautiful day and scenery and the bike shop was great and it was very nice to meet the lovely Monica! So now I'm a little/lot angry that I'm not there to ride along 😒... ho humm.
Your stop at that little store was fun. That's what it's all about, isn't it? Taking the time to stop and look around and enjoy whatever looks interesting.
"Wild camping" is a relitively new term to me. It accurately describes the objective but, duuuude[!] camping without a fire is like running without sneakers LOL. But I'm sure Monica will eventually convince you to bring fire into your life, it's amazing what you can do with it.
LMAO at the demonstration of your sleeping arrangements and stepping in sheep poop. Then those lovely sunset views and that classic wild horse segment. Then I waved good bye to Monica as she tooted and drove away.
That cha-cha bed roll and horsing around was great. Glad you gave those horses back their grazing rights.
The bike tent was very interesting and it looked to be of good quality.
Nice video.. just pressed subscribe. Cheers!

A couple of problems with comments and sights in your video, any of which can get a £500 fine and worse... Not the best example for your viewers to follow.
You're right that it's possible to legally wildcamp' on SOME parts of Dartmoor - there's an online map that shows where. However, camping close to a road and vehicle has become known and criticized as 'fly-camping'. This can get you fined £500 and is a major cause of Dartmoor National Park Authority currently proposing to reduce the area available for wild camping and increase prosecution of moorland Byelaw offenders. Nobody is going to thank you or anyone else for being the cause of that.
Don't suggest lighting a campfire on Dartmoor - it's prohibited by law as, a common cause of environmental harm and wildfire, and the ground is commonly peat which will burn itself. Use a camping stove responsibly instead. Using a campfire on Dartmoor is a sure sign of a lack of knowledge and skill.
Drone flying is prohibited on Dartmoor without permission of Dartmoor National Park Authority (£500 fine).
Don't encourage Dartmoor livestock to come close, especially not close to roads, and don't feed them. About 40 ponies each year are killed by vehicles because they're encouraged close to roads by people feeding them. More are injured, some having to be destroyed. Ponies are pretty, but that end isn't. They will become troublesome looking for food and will bite and kick - broken bones aren't unknown. Dartmoor ponies are cute but they're wild animals, not pets.
DNPA provide guidance for wild campers, a map showing where it is permitted or not, and list important Byelaws. Trust me, a lot of people are fed up with visitors to Dartmoor doing the wrong thing and DNPA are clamping down. A beatifull place, a beautifull bike and a beautifull girl.
What do you need more ?
Just one sidenote. Be carefull of your bike falling down. If it does then .....
And although that this would not take out an eye. You have no idea what i can do mentally when suddenly and without warning a bike falls on you while sleeping.
Had that once happen to me. It gave me a headdache for days. And it takes you atleast 10 seconds before becoming aware what happenend. Ten long seconds mate. 🙈
Thanks for your beautifull video. It has always been a dream of me to go riding in the U.K. Especially going to the Hibride Islands. Did read a book about it being somewere around ten years old. Tanamara was the title. 44 later and still remembering the title. It was also one of my first Englist books i did read. The first was Peter the Whaler. Sometimes people remember weird things. While being a moron at school. 🙈

I bought a new Sporster about 20 odd years ago ( reckon second year of evo motor ) . Worst bike I've ever ridden. No power, no brakes, shit suspension and as a bonus, flexing frame. Only good thing about it was I sold the bugger for what I paid for it.
