  • OVERALL SUMMARY
    I made these videos to document my experience eating a diet termed the “Lion Diet” by Mikhaila Peterson, daughter of Jordan Peterson, who introduced this diet to my thinking. Lion Diet is a strict version of the Carnivore diet that only allows for ruminant meat, salt, and water. I am not a nutrition expert or doctor, but I hope you will find my story enjoyable and informational, as well as the other content I create.

    Today is the end of my 31 weeks on carnivore. I have lost 68 lbs and the changes in my inner and outer self is staggering. When I started, I determined that the #1 goal is to stay on carnivore for one year. I treat my weight lose as a side effect of carnivore not a measuring stick of my progress. True I track my weight but I don't watch my weight. (big difference) To share all the changes that these 31 weeks have given me would take much more writing than I want to do here but it truly has been life changing.

    I started the Carnivore diet in August 2019 and had great results then everything went sideways. I started following several UA-camr's with so many different opinions and tried everything only to be right back where I started. You are right Dante, keep it simple. I am glad I found your channel and back to the basics. This should not be made out to be difficult. Eat the Meat and salt!!!!! The end!

      Carnivore helps with inflammation but the weight loss is the 1 or 2 meals a day fasting and calorie deficit. 3500 calorie deficit to lose 1 lb is inescapable. I’ve lost 80 and nearing goal weight but I got hung in the middle for a couple of months until I switched to 1 meal a day and a deep calorie deficit. Then the weight just fell off.

    One thing on all carnivore videos that I don't think gets talked about enough..... when I was personal training it was common for people in relationships to have a spouse ither purposely sabotaging or unintentionally sabotaging their partners positive physical and mental changes.......I know for a fact there are many people out there that would benefit from a support network specifically for this diet. Most overweight people are overweight because they use food as a drug due to emotional issues..I just think there is a great opportunity to really help mentally and physically.

    • @FerrignoFreedom
      @FerrignoFreedom  9 місяців тому +3

      Human nature is self-sabotaging and we naturally project our own shortcomings on those we’re closest to. It takes some mental toughness to ignore that and still love the people in our lives who manufacture stumbling blocks. By nature they’re no different than we are, and the positive example we can set through maintaining a relaxed mental attitude toward their comments and negativity will work far better than retaliation or a defensive posture.

    Dante, I was exactly like you. I didn't like all the fat. I used to think itcwas disgusting...I used to give it to my younger son. And, I was always told fat, made you fat. But, now on Carnivore, I love my fat! And salt...I never ever salted my food. Now, I salt everything! And it's good food you. I didn't realize that we need salt. Right now I'm using sea salt and Redmond salt. But I'm switching over to Celtic Salt...there is more vitamin and minerals in it.

    I'm still searching for a source of good, grass-fed beef. Meanwhile, I go to the local beef processor and got 4 lbs. of fat cuttings with my meat last trip. I slice it up, season it, and cook it with the meat, especially leaner cuts! I'd been steadily gaining weight over the last five years - it's amazing how much sugar I was consuming! Toast with honey, cinnamon rolls, fruit juice (which sometimes has more sugar than a soft drink!), ice cream and candy . . . just cutting out all the sugar would probably have helped, but I'm not sure it would have resulted in weight loss without also cutting carbs. However - I've always liked fat, and don't find anything about this MOE hard to follow! Love listening to your updates, and seeing what a dramatic change this has made!

I actually don’t enjoy the the “business” side of being a content creator, but I’m trying to manage it because just like a professional medical researcher, I can’t spend the time to do it if the bills aren’t getting paid. I honestly believe in the carnivore diet and the lion diet. I have had immune system problems from birth. I am 68. I have lost over 35 pounds and yet losing weight was not my goal. Your stomach problems are very similar to yours. I have recently finally gotten rid of my visceral fat. At least from being able to see it from looking at me.
    But I am always exhausted and in general pain. Not from inflammation. And my stomach is still messed up.
    I think my overall problem is that I am a full time sole caregiver for my wife. Ah and I still drink coffee. A cup of regular and 4 or 5 decaf. I am guessing that the lack of sleep and physical and emotional stress is the reason that I don’t have the results most other people have.
    My skin which has been pretty much unbearable all my life is far far better. And my stomach even though not great is a lot better.
    I will say that we have been on SSI for 6 years and can only afford ground beef.
    I need to get the Redmond’s Smoked Salt.
    I am hoping that my fatty liver disease and triglycerides are going down from 480. They were at 1200.
    I have been watching Dr Berry and Dr Chaffee for a long time before I found you.
    My wife and I are hooked on your videos.
    Shalom my brother.

      Stress is definitely a killer, and coffee has its negatives especially if your gut is like mine. It causes digestive issues for me, and I believe it makes the stress worse because coffee stimulates the release of adrenaline and cortisol. I still have some when I’m time shifting for the swing shift hours, but I need to stop. I used to be a coffee snob though and when I need the extra push to get through a late night when I woke up at 4:30 in the morning it’s hard to resist the great quality espresso available where I work (I make a black Americano when I have some). I truly believe I would benefit from a better sleep schedule and no coffee, and perhaps it would help you too. The plant toxins may also be the source of the pain you mentioned…

    I’ve had a hard time for many reasons to get fully carnivore. At this point I’m taking every non carnivore food an experiment. Yesterday I had wheat and just had an asthma attack, and that happened the three times I had wheat in the last two months. I had a soda and it actually tasted great for a few sips and then it tasted too sweet and after a few more sips it tasted bitter and I naturally put it down and couldn’t finish it. My body had obviously had too I much sugar. Every experience like that makes me run back to carnivore. I just don’t see myself not eating carnivore for the rest of my life because other foods really do affect my health in a big way.

    • @Goldiga
      @Goldiga 9 місяців тому +1

      Today I watched a video by a vegan nutritionist about the fruits and vegetables that we should eat and that it is fat that keeps sugar in the blood. That the specific human food is fruits and vegetables. I got a simple discovery today. Maybe that's all it is. And it is possible that a person should also eat meat. But the fact that he should not eat is apparently rats, bread and all this grain, food for birds and all kinds of sugar and other rubbish with chemistry. And I think this is the answer. Now I don’t know what to think when I eat a lot of fat ... After all, many on carnivore or keto diets write that blood sugar has become higher than it was before the diet. It's stressing me out.

      @goldigga I’d just acknowledge that there’s a difference between getting adequate fat, and getting too much fat. It’s a ratio decision each person has to make that works best for them.

    Thank you Dante! This is definitely your calling 😃 You’re helping & going to help so many people find their way to feeling their best. Like you were saying, everyone is so unique that what works for someone else might not work for you. It takes time sometimes to figure out what YOUR body thrives on. I’m 3 weeks into carnivore and feel I need to reduce my fat intake. I’ve been tested and told in the past that my body has a hard time digesting fat. With the fat on all the meat and also eating ghee everyday my body is storing it 🤔 Trial and error. I’ll tweak it a bit and see how I feel. Thanks again! Take care and keep spreading the word ❤🥩

      Thank you. I have to thank my wife for inspiring me to use the grease or fat outro. The benefits people are experiencing on a carnivore WOE are serious, but I’ve got to add a little levity because the people in opposition to this WOE can get people (including myself) wrapped around the axel because they want to force their ideals on everyone else. It’s part of the same battle we all have to deal with in a world of idealism versus logic in every area it seems. If we’re feeling healthier and happier on a carnivore WOE, there’s no sense letting the vegan ideologues bring us back down. Let’s have fun being healthy and happy and ignore the manufactured negativity.

    Lazy? You? I know, sometimes we feel like we're slacking, because we've removed ourselves from our own lives when we are sick. I think there's an instinctive part of us that says, "You're dying, go off by yourself, don't weigh down the herd." And I think we also sometimes feel a little too sensitive to the needs of others and are discouraged enough by not being able to fulfill those needs, that we withdraw into ourselves. As Christians, we HATE knowing we've been so self-centered, but I've been able to give myself some grace over it. As someone who used to pride herself on her ability to work hard, I've been humbled by illness, and that's a bitter pill to swallow for sure.

I don’t spend enough time researching ways to do UA-cam stuff because I’m constantly studying this diet for more understanding of other people’s experiences as well as the renewed attention being given to metabolic health by some medical health researchers who are starting to pay attention to diet as medicine.

    My understanding of grain fed beef is this: the cattle feed on grass most of their lives, then, in the last 3-4 months a combination of grass and grain prior to slaughter. Grain fed to fatten them up for processing. I find grass fed tends to be leaner than grain fed. But I eat both and what I can afford. Meat is medicine. ❤

    Oh wow, thank you Dante for that thought. I've noticed I've developed a hoarseness to my voice this last couple of months too. I wasn't sure what it was, figured allergies as I'm still dealing with my year-round "seasonal" allergy symptoms which have increased this summer. I've reduced the amount of cheese I eat considerably but haven't completely quit dairy and I do eat a lot of butter, more than ever actually. It just helps with the satiety better than just meat for me. Cheese is an addiction for me, but I'm noticing I just don't desire as much of it anymore as I used to. I can eat a piece and be satisfied where before I would just keep going back for more. I do have a little heavy cream in my coffee (both of which I am working on letting go of, at least for 90 days-it hasn't been easy).

    I'm sensitive to everything, it seems. 😢 even fat. As little as a Tbsp of butter sets off my gut for days. I must eat a lower fat carnivore diet. Even egg yolks (& yes I can only do pastured!!) Or a ribeye gives me diarrhea. Ive been trying to adjust for 14 months, nothing seems to work. My Dr says that I have BAM - Bile Acid Malabsorption which is what is causing the painful gut and diarrhea.
    It's so frustrating because I've learned to LOVE eating fat and I crave it. But.... thank God, I've found a natural solution that has helped quite a lot. I'm using Redmond's Bentonite Clay to absorb that extra bile. I drink my "muddy water" every evening and this has given me some freedom back.
    I wish I could figure out how to cure this problem entirely. I'm a 66 yo woman with a younger husband who I'd love to be able to keep up with. Thanks for all you do!!!

    Great tee shirt! I want one of those.
    I like the way Dr. Berry puts it as The Proper Human Diet. He shows it as a spectrum from meat heavy keto all the way to lion diet. Some people need to be more strict. Some people need to stay strict forever while some heal and can loosen up a bit after a while.
    I find I feel best with ruminants plus seafood, skip the pork and chicken with rare exceptions.
    Maybe try some ghee rather than butter. It gives you the taste without the inflammatory casein. I think that is what is causing your hoarseness.
    Some seafood could take care of the iodine deficiency without needing a supplement.

    • @FerrignoFreedom
      @FerrignoFreedom  9 місяців тому

      Agreed on all, but one of my issues with seafood is I am allergic to fish, and when I eat shrimp for example I’m usually OK (even though they are omnivores), but sometimes the shrimp will be stored with fish and the oils still cause me to have a reaction. I used to love oysters, mussels, crab, and lobster but I’m not as big of a fan now knowing crustaceans are omnivores and opportunistic scavengers and clams, mussels, and oysters are filter feeders. I’m so sensitive to anything not from a ruminant it’s really limits my choices.

    I suggest trying Vital Farms or Truly unsalted butter and see if you have the same reaction. Most other unsalted butters have natural flavoring in them.
    The butter sensitivity may be the salt. The salt that is used in salted butter, even the grass fed butter, which is iodized salt which has dextrose and an anti caking agent. Two things of which you don't use because you use Redmond's Real Salt. They do have salted butter that uses sea salt vs salt but they're hard to find.

I can’t tell you specifically, but I know I started feeling better almost immediately. Yet even to this day if I eat the wrong things or even let adversity become stress in my life I can get rumblings in that area. I’m hoping that over the course of time I might still be able to see all the damage that was done in the 47 years prior to my starting Lion Diet, and I’ve heard good things from other people who have been on this way of eating longer than I so I have hope, but there is no guarantee I will ever completely be free of the damage that was done. What I can see is when I do eat the right things, and I don’t try to control everything in my life that is beyond my control, I am free of those problems.

      I often have to default to the special pricing at places like Publix and Sam’s Club because I too don’t have an unlimited budget, but there is a potentially good source for grass fed beef at Florida Fresh Meat Company in Ocala. I’ve spoken to the owner but she was not enthusiastically affected by my story enough to let me look closer at the way they raise and process their beef yet. If anyone goes there based on my pointing them out, I hope mentioning that you found out about them watching my channel will encourage them to respond the next time I reach out to them. I hope to be able to find more and more beef producers who will be willing to speak with me and share their approach with my viewers. I’m not looking to partner with them financially, but I think they might be skeptical that that is what I’m trying to do and that causes them to be hesitant to work with me. There’s also the possibility that they’re cutting corners and overselling their product and then don’t want me to look closer with my followers watching 🤷🏻

      I’m not sure I understand the “losing too much weight” mentality I hear from people unless the loss is in the area of muscle mass or something like that. I do understand wanting more variety considering many people live with so much abundance these days and they’re watching other people seemingly enjoying the stuff they eat that we know is not profitable for good health because we all suffer from the same self-destructive human-nature everyone else has. As for fat specifically, I believe some people overdo it, probably me included at times, and it causes some confusion for those who have difficulties with it. The question each one of us have to address is whether or not our difficulties with eating more fat are manufactured in our minds or if our bodies are telling us something different than other people’s bodies are telling them. There is no one size fits all.

Maybe if I was an abuser tapering would have been an option to consider though. I wound up going cold turkey mostly out of necessity. I wasn’t willing to go beg a doctor for a prescription, and I was ready to let it go anyway in the hopes that my new WOE and active lifestyle would carry the day. So far it’s been the right choice. 😎👍🏽
