The “I Dream of Jeanie” inspiration makes a lot of sense for Ryoko. Perhaps it’s a more subtle approach with Kiyone’s interest in Tenchi, but she’s a bit too mature with her work ethic and life experience to really be into a teenager. I see Kiyone more into someone that she empathizes with, who shares a few years of real world working experience.

And now I am eyeing my Tenchi collection to rewatch. Just wish I could meet some of the American voice cast. Have them sign my dvd case of Tenchi Universe would be amazing, especially Petrea as Ryoko has always been my favorite character.

I wish Big Finish (which resurrects great old shows like Doctor Who, Dark Shadows, and The Avengers in audio form) would get all the English dub actors of Tenchi Muyo! and do the same for that series. In Japan, the seiyu DID do a radio series. Those scripts could be licensed and translated. They would make history doing the first audio-only dubbed anime. And if it sells as well as I expect it would, they could do adaptations of manga stories, the best fanfic, and even completely original stories.
Just by the unique intonation and cadence I can tell this is Sasami, even without the higher pitch. That's really cool. I had no idea she did Kiyone too.

I think the biggest question as far as Tenchi material is why the F was the American voice actress for Ryoko changed when Tenchi Myuo sequel Ryo-Ohki anime was dubbed.
Petrea (Ryoko) said at Anime Fargo 2015 she was contacted by Funimation to do OVA3, but they were unprofessional to her and when they were negotiating pay, they cut contact with Petrea and dubbed OVA3 (Ryo-Ohki) without letting her know. Exact same thing happened to Jeff Nimoy (Wolfwood) and Trigun: Badlands Rumble.
Wondered the same thing when I watch the first episode. I found Petrea’s fan email and asked her. She responded,shockingly to me, saying it was partially a contract issue. Sucked too took me years to watch it and even now it’s like fuck that’s not Ryoko that’s something else. Petrea gave the character something extra the replacement just never could do.
Do I want to watch this? On the one hand Tenchi was one of my favorite anime when I was growing up. On the other, it has not aged well, and sometimes if you love something it’s best to leave it in the past. This show pretty much kicked off my chunibyou phase as they call it, and inspired my UA-cam persona to some degree.
Sadly, alot of the modern Tenchi spin-offs are too heavily weighed down with modern anime tropes, it's almost laughable, a good example being Ai Tenchi Muyo. The Original OVA's felt like the proper way to have a Harem Anime, as opposed to nowadays it's nothing but constant Tity and Pantyshots, every 5 to 7 minutes. Fan service is okay, but over-reliant and over-saturated amounts of it, ruin the show's pacing and mood, very few anime today actually make it blend well. I can only think of two atm, such as Trinity Seven a Magical Harem, and Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid a Yuri Ecchi Shounen. Highschool DxD is unfortunately an offender on this list of over-saturation of fanservice.
Mecks089 agreed. Tenchi hasn't been good for well over 10years. Personally I would love for them to just put it to rest. I can't speak for the 4th ova but I don't have high expectations.
Not for me at all. It's cool but if you can't get the person soon, the video should just be made. I don't know if these guys are with Did you know gaming or just inspired by it but they put out games faster and have the same people voice it.
Kiyone was my favorite of the girls from Tenchi Universe. She seemed so relate-able to me. Sherry Lynn did a great job with the role. :-)

I knew about the Ryoko frame in Ranma, but had no idea that it predated the real deal. Also, Tenchi and Ryoko are the best match.

She did Kiyone for Mihoshi special, Tenchi Universe, TMiL, and one episode of the Pretty Sammy OAV.
Her normal speaking voice sounds like Kiyone, she IS Kiyone

I was born in 1991. I remember watching Tenchi on Toonami while I was in elementary school. I started drawing manga-esque things way back then.

Really ruined the end of the show for me. Best just watch it in japanese even though the majority of the dub is fantastic and what I grew up with.
She's coming back for the OVA 4 dub, thankfully.
Well, they need to Re-Dub her into the Ryo-Ohki "conclusion" series. They re-Dub dragonball Z all the time, so it shouldn't be that hard.
