There is actually a pro-shot of this entire show, so you could watch the whole thing if you want! And yeah, the band are characters in the show and there's a lot of context from the plot of the show by the time they get to this number, and the whole thing is this massive cathartic moment in the story. I wasn't expecting much of this show when I first watched it and then I was blown away by the music, and some of the performances are just incredible and moving. A show I highly recommend watching!

This is one of my favorite musicals so I'm glad you reacted to it and enjoyed it! The whole show is amazing and full of so many different emotions that is quite the ride! Random Fun Fact: The drummer for this show Joe Carroll, was the drummer for A Very Potter Musical!

Highly recommend watching this show!! Quick summary of the musical: After WWII, a group of veterans form a band in order to enter a music competition while dealing with the effects of their time as soldiers. It deals with trauma and how we as a nation treat veterans when they come home.
The show itself is comprised of jazz and big band style songs and starred Corey Cott (the pianist) and Laura Osnes. Most of the songs are diegetic (meaning the characters know they are singing/performing) and are played by the 5 male characters live on stage for every performance though there is also a pit orchestra for the nondiegetic songs (your typical "sing your thoughts and emotions" musical song). The show only ran 4 months, was HIGHLY underrated, and, hot take, should have earned Corey Cott a Tony nomination and possibly a win (though he would have been up against Ben Platt so...). It did win the Tony for Choreography which was done by Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton choreographer). They did a live cap of the show that is typically available for streaming around Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and the 4th.
Fun fact: Corey Cott took over for Jeremy Jordan in Newsies as Jack Kelly as his broadway debut. So Laura Osnes played opposite of two Jack Kellys which kind of led to this 54 Below performance which would also be a great reaction ua-cam.com/video/1t8Ls-eQIcM/v-deo.html

The band are actually characters! It’s about a band of WW2 veterans entering a song contest. The piano player is actually the male lead. Someone else could probably do this summary better but I love this show so much and hope you do more reactions to it.

The musical is amazing. Highly recommend to anyone, especially who loves. that era of music. they work through a lot of issues during the show, but it is so real, and so important. Even the song itself has an amazing story behind the creation of it. The Choreography is just insane, incredible dancing. And Laura is brilliant, and just a wonderful person. Laura's character is lot deeper than you realize.
Nobody, is a great song, and really goes a bit more with the tempo of much of the show and the amazing dancing. Mostly Corey Cott singing on this one, but with Laura, and a great recording available from the Tony's ua-cam.com/video/prf_DO50BLY/v-deo.html
