These vocalists are amazing! Anyone with an ounce of singing or performing experience can tell that that their voices are 100% genuine and pitch perfect - no autotune or post production dubbing. These two are vocal gems!
I love both of their voices for different reasons. I just don't think you can compare them.. I think Sutton was perfect as Reno Sweeney; a role I don't think Laura could play. However, Laura was perfect as Hope Harcourt; a role Sutton I don't think could do.
I don’t think you should compare. They are two very different characters and two different actresses. Hope is a quiet sweet innocent person. Reno is a extrovert over the top attention seeking legend, she needs a loud powerful voice. Laura could never play reno
@@chanhailey7848 Certain classics just sound better with a male or female voice even though they make no reference to gender. Female voice songs: 'Send in the Clowns' ...'Both Sides Now'.....'The Power of Love'....Male Voice songs: "Old Man River"...."Danny Boy"....and Cole Porter's own "Begin the BeGuine"
The reason a show is revived is to show the newest talent in the community. Yes- LuPone and Merman were great in this show. In their time. This is the future of Broadway. Revivals are done to showcase new talents. This is new talent. Ms. Osnes won a contest to be 'Sandy' in the "Grease" revival. Mr. Donnell has been nom'd for a Drama Desk Award. As for the tempo, it is not slow at all. I saw this cast on Broadway, and it was perfect. Your comments show we are clearly have a preference. Thanks.
I know who Ethel Merman is. I know who Patti LuPone is. I know who Jennifer Holliday is. I also know that there is new talent all the time and we can't just hold onto the talent of the past. Laura Osnes (playing Hope in this video) is an incredibly talented actress, singer AND dancer who has been in many incredible shows over the past few years and has earned two Tony nominations.

Nevertheless, Laura Osnes is forever gorgeous and oh that voice which I'd be glad to drown... and Colin Donnel whom I'm still surprised after I found out that he's actually more of a Broadway actor than a TV teen star...

@flippersrox52 Thanks for that, hen. I am actually a paid professional actor, so I do know that they are acting, I don't actually need you to point that out to me. I said I "genuinely" felt that they were in love. By saying this I was complimenting their performance. If I, as an audience member, believe that what they actors are portraying is real, then they're doing their job. So it's a good thing. Your comment was both unnecessarily sarcastic and totally moronically unhelpful. Cheers.
I would love to see a remake of this. The one with Bing Crosby, Donald O'Connor, Mitzi Gaynor was flawed by the songs added by Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen. The recent cast of the Broadway revival would be great. While the 1955 film was good in its way, Cole Porter deserves a decent remake.
1. He's scrunches his nose because he's being flirtatious. Its part of his acting. 2. Comparing Laura to the singers you named is apples to oranges because its a completely different sound and role. Laura is 'Hope,' not 'Reno.' People know who Ethel and Patti are. Its a completely different sound. 'Hope' is sweet and kind, not big and brassy like 'Reno.' Its the character.
laurakej95 it's wrong Solfege entirely but it's based in pre- Kodaly solfege. Set "do" where their is no "ti". The scale goes do-re-me-fa-sol-la-si-do. This version of Solfege has in background in the Bible and each syllable is the start of a Latin phrase from the Bible.
Colin is just so dreamy.

Ten years later and this is still amaaaazinggg!!!
Their voices, looks, chemistry, and pitch are perfect!
Their performance was perfect. I am so happy that this song exists.
Laura is amazing! she totally deserves her role in Cinderella! her singing voice sounds like a princess! lol
He can sing with anybody, and whoever, he is terrific! Gorgeous, beautiful voice, enticing persona! What else could you ask for?
Her voice has a sweetness that Sutton Foster's doesn't have...not that Sutton is bad, but I really enjoy Laura's voice! And Colin Donnell...WOW!
Sutton's voice is more for power ballads, it is very big whereas lauras is more soft and sweet. Two types of singing, both very delovely

thank god laura osnes was discovered she is GREAT!
Her voice can be described by the song. Delightful and de Lovely 😍

I fall in love every time I hear this song, especially at that last note.
amazing! if they are not actually in love, then she is a phenomenal actress.
There should be a drink called a Cole Porter.
Yeaah
there is! www.robertsandjune.com/cole-porter-cocktail-recipe/
This makes me want to be in love
I could listen to this all day. It's so beautiful.
Ugh, this melted my soul
I genuinely feel these two are in love... their passion and chemistry is just perfect.
They sound beautiful:)
clap clap clap clap clap! Dewonderful!

Aw man... that was so good.
When are we going to hear Laura on Broadway again? What a gem she is.
Gorgeous version. (And for those getting very picky about a hint sharp here or flat there... they're doing this live before 9am; give them a break!)
some people are just soulless wretches.....it sounds good and thats that!
I agree, I’ve been a singer for a long time and I can say they sound AMAZING I have literally no notes😂😂 they sound just like the cast recording
AAAH! So cute!!!
My favorite part is the last note harmony(:
What a good looking couple.

Damn, Braodway singers are way too fantastic!
素敵やん

these singers

Is that a Steinway piano? 'Cause that sounds so perfect.
I like the word "chickadee" in the lyrics because it reminds me of W. C. Fields.
💟👍💖
Trust me Laura can handle power ballads
Is there a karaoke of this song?
She's slightly sharp every now and then, but I love her tone.
i miss laura osnes on broadway what they did to her was so wrong she needs to be back on broadway she belongs there
Why does it have to be a competition? Both women do a great job in each if their performances. Just envoy each and get off the “competitive “ stage”!
yeah and you act on broadway too
This guy sounds a lot like Ramin Karimloo
Who is the pianist?
+Paul CJ James Lowe, Current MD of Les Mis
Thank you SO much!!
Does it bug anyone else that the solfege is wrong on the last note? That definitely is NOT a "si"!
Or a "la", actually. Sigh.
laurakej95 it's wrong Solfege entirely but it's based in pre- Kodaly solfege. Set "do" where their is no "ti". The scale goes do-re-me-fa-sol-la-si-do. This version of Solfege has in background in the Bible and each syllable is the start of a Latin phrase from the Bible.
NO, because they are using a moveable do, plus, the si automatically makes is a chromatic solfege. So its technically correct
what a seamless performance, perfect timbre throughout, such breath control, and so handsome, although I have to say Cheryl Crowe did it better
She is wonderful, but Sutton Foster ROCKS!!
I know she's acting but her laughing annoys me
