  • In this episode we fix the Bluetti EB3A DC short issue we are seeing in this solar generator. When the short issue occurs, the solar generator doesn't turn on, nor any function work. The solar generator only turns on when you plugin in AC power, and shows that it has a SHORT. We've narrowed down in our particular issue to be on the DC output side, even though we have nothing plugged in.

    So glad God led me down this path. I searched high and low for an answer. After watching this video I followed each step as suggested, and my unit no longer displays a short message and most importantly, works like new. Thanks!

    You wanted to hear from someone who had positive interaction with BLUETTI customer service. I did. I emailed them with my issue. They answered me right back almost immediately. The person I was emailing with was named "Bon". After a few emails back and forth, it was decided I send my unit back... Postage paid by BLUETTI. I was walked thru the process of packaging and where to send it how to send it. Easy peasy. It was decided by the company to replace my unit with a brand new unit after they looked my old one over. The issue was it would not turn on. In a couple weeks from sending mine back, I received a brand new one. I was taken care of in a very personalized way, Bon was patient, friendly, and prompt with communicating with me. I had not even filled out the warrenty card and registered it on line. I'm terrible about doing those warranty things. Bi was told it was OK, they'd help me anyway. My unit did work for about 3 months before it went dead. That's all I have to say.

    Seems like some sort of firmware glitch, you didn't fix an electrical short. thanks for sharing. My EB3A just failed in exactly the same manner, additionally with an error A006 on the Bluetooth app.

    I had the same issue, from using it to charge my car. But I fixed it easily without taking it apart. You need the mobile app. You connect via the app and Reset the device. That flips the internal breakers. You'll find it probably isn't fully charged afterall. But it will likely function normally, though you might need to charge it and Reset it again, which sometimes happens to me. It always happens when I charge a dead battery on my car from the DC power port, because there is a fast, power backflow when I open the door and the car wakes up and lights come on. The breakers protect the unit from damage. Bluetti didn't know how to fix it either, because it's supposed to be a feature not a bug, but there isn't a hardwired Reset button on the box. The workaround is that you need the app, which isn't as reliable as a button.

      That’s helpful. I tried the reset via the app. It did nothing for me. Maybe bc I was at 0%?

    • @willcool713
      @willcool713 9 місяців тому +1

      @@tgbatg It has to be plugged in to wall current, too. And you might have to reset it more than once. That's my experience. Bluetti was very interested in knowing how I fixed it, because they were almost ready to replace it for me. Looking up other issues, and similar issues with other Bluetti models in their forums, a full reset was often the solution -- but the EB3A doesn't have a dedicated reset button.

      I have the exact same problem. I have looked all through the app but do not see where I can reset it. Where can I find that option? Thanks

    • @willcool713
      @willcool713 8 місяців тому +2

      @@Fix_it_Phil The power button does it, on the main screen of the app once you're connected, straight below the charge percentage indicator. There is no factory reset, as there aren't any permanent settings. Like I say, sometimes you have to switch it off and back on more than once. And if it thinks it's dead, plug it in so you can connect. Most of the Bluetti devices seem to get their circuits scrambled occasionally and the advice all through the forums was to press the reset button on the unit. The EB3A only has a breaker button for AC, so nobody seemed to know what to do when the DC circuit tripped internally, because there was no Off switch.
      Hope it helps.

      @@willcool713 my app says I have to turn off the grid input when I press that power button. No idea how to turn off grip input? Mine is 10 months old.. warranty dept supposed to get ahold of me on Monday as I called in the weekend. Would loved to have reset it but that input grid error stops me! Appreciate all the comments!

    Cool,however the problem I experienced was that, when my unit displayed short, I got a communication cannot be established msg in the app which prevented me from using the app when attempting to connect to the unit, every time on my iPhone. I’ve got two units and one continued to work fine with the app. Shorted units may reset differently based on various input devices, different phones/configurations ECT. I was using both as UPS devices and they seamed to need to cool down using the built-in fan quite a bit while constantly plugged in & on. So the one that shorted may have just succumbed to constant vs occasional use.
    Anyway, I’m glad yours came back to life too. Stranger things.🤓

    This fixed my eb3a that bricked itself after using to trickle charge motorcycles in our shop. It used to work fine but lately if left on overnight it becomes unresponsive until it’s plugged into wall power. Once on wall power it reports it’s at 100% full with DC short. In actuality we found out it’s dead completely and pulling the cable like in the video resets the battery indicator back to 0% then the unit kicks on and starts charging. This is pretty unnerving as we can’t trust if the charge status is really the true % and when charging I leave it outside away from anything flammable in case it overcharges and explodes. Likely this thing is going away soon for another more reliable brand.

    my unit does not display a "Short" error, but unplugging it leads to it shutting off after a few minutes. It takes me plugging it in again to wake it up again. Will this fix that too? It does have a charge so I dont know why it turns off.

      to synchronize the screen with the other electronics inside. (bottom balancing)

    Below is a far better solution that will not void the warranty from the manufacturer.
    For this case, we would encourage you to follow a few troubleshooting steps with us.
    1. Please turn on the AC and DC buttons of the machine when plugging in the charging cable. After 30 minutes to 1 hour, the machine will drop from 100% to 99% due to self-consumption.
    2. After the SOC drops to 99%, unplug the charging cable. It can make the machine work normally (that is, it can be turned on even after unplugging the charging cable)
    3. And then re-plug the charging cable for charging. However, the SOC is not accurate at this time, and it may take a long time to recharge from 99% to 100%. You can continue to use it normally after it is fully charged.

    • @ibidsl
      @ibidsl 6 місяців тому +1

      If the DC won’t switch ON, try switching ON the light to take the SOC down to 99% or so.

    THANKS !! GREAT VID! ... I'd love to learn how you figured this out. You must be EE and familiar with tactics. ;)
    I got this short issue after using my EB3A to charge my car battery. IF you need to do this, be sure to pay attention to how the connectors go. Even after confirming my gut - and testing with my multimeter, I connected red to positive and black to negative on the car battery.
    What happened is the connectors for the alligator clips ONLY FIT reversed in polarity (WIRE COLORS GO IN OPPOSITE). So connecting it to my car "correctly" by color was a mistake. PAY ATTENTION TO POLARITY PPL. and learn to use and understand your multimeter. (shrug)
    I have no desire to send anything back... and let's face it, most of us are probably huge DIYers. I certainly am, and if I can take 15 minutes to fix the thing, I'll be happy.
    When I do this, I will be sure to cover my pliers with tape to make sure THEY don't touch anything they shouldn't be as well.
    The one thing you didn't mention... smoke. I actually got smoke from mine ... hopefully this still works.
