Hi JB! This is the video you need to see - ua-cam.com/video/cdyMKip0OU0/v-deo.html regarding syncing the Step Modulator. Here it is synced to my MV-8000. Regarding syncing the Volca FM you need to make the SP-808 Master and connect a MIDI cable like this: SP-808 MIDI OUT to Volca FM MIDI-IN. Make sure the settings of the SP-808 is on OUT and not on THRU. Good luck! Grtzzz, Roger
Good question. Do you mean putting in the notes for the step modulator through midi? That answer is no. To use the sound of an external synth processed by the step modulator the answer is yes. I have a video of that last feature. I will send it to you.

Are the step modulators sort of the way you make synth loops? Like you can't use the synth effect to record a loop in track A, for example? Still learning. Trying to learn from the manual too, haha.
Saibot216 the step modulator is indeed a way to loop the synth. The step modulator can proces different parameters of the synth. You can record these loops on a track or on a sample. On a track it would be a direct recording and on a sample it would be an internal sample. Reading the Manual is an excellent idea because you will learn so much. Imagine this, creating a bass line and sample this on a pad. Then create a lead line and also sample that. Then a third sample with a single note with LFO-effects. Then combine those samples on the track recorder. But wait....using the step modulator for external inputs is also amazing. Ok, I’ll stop...😅 Good luck with discovering!

(A99 for example) Now SHIFT + MUTE Change FxLoc to INS RECORD Now press twice on STATUS A to have it ready for recording (blinking red) When you press STEP MOD you will notice that sound is coming in on track A. In the setup of the step mod I recommend it on setting it on trig SNGPLY. Now you can start recording with the multi track record function. Press SHIFT + REC to set the parameters. Choose the play sign with start/w. Can also be count-in it manual. But with play it always is synchronised to the first beat. Good luck!
