"the midi maniac" dude, you are the most clear and accurate person in explaining a sampler. The skills you taught can be applied to another sampler/sequencing device(don't want to name brands).THANK YOU.
For years, I had the Roland MV8000 as my centerpiece. Watching this vid, I clearly see where some of it’s functions originated. Keep up the great work. Giving vintage gear new interests. ✌🏾👍🏾
Hi! For years you had the MV8000. In that case I would like to ask you your opinion because I'm about to buy one (with VGA-installed). Should I invest the money? I'm planning to install a IDE SD to CF to replace the 40GB HDD. Thanks for your feedback! ✌🏾👍🏾

Thanks for taking the time to make these great tutorials. I've had my sp-808 for a while now but haven't dove in to figure it out yet. Your tutorials are going to be a huge help!
Grateful for the advent of graphic displays for modern sample editing. Trying to trim samples with numbers only looks like a real challenge and waste of time. Great unit though!
Man...i've never used a sampler, but i can say for sure that your way explaining the things, is really fast, simple and very easy to understand, even for a total newb to samplers, like me ...and also, i think this machine will be very useful to me, for 3 -at least- ways.. I downloaded the .pdf manual and had some reading, and so far, there's only one thing i find it kinda dissapointing..so- if i got it right-, when you sync'ed it to an ext hardw seq, then you have the 11-16 midi channels, controlled with the 6 faders, well then, it can't be set up as a slave, but only as master ?? And -for not to be misunderstood-, i'm talking for simple midi clock messages, and not about MTC.. Thanx Roger...
Hi! Thank you for your positive feedback! Honestly, I was surprised by your comment regarding Syncing, so I tested it immediately with the MC-50, the MC-307 and the TR8. On all three occasions the SP-808 synced to the Start-Stop function of those machines but did not adjust the BPM. Somehow it is kind a logical because the samples do have a steady BPM and will not be able to adjust to the BPM of another machine. So, you have to adjust the BPM in the tempo map and then you can start externally. I hope I explained it right...if not, you know where I am :-)
Hehe you're really fast Roger..OK, so i don't think it's a serious problem...It would fit so nice in my set up..Esp the ch 11, steady reserved for the synth..Yeah, this JP sound, and i'm not talking about the overused and overdetuned supersaw commercial trance thing, cause this is what jp-8000 and 8080 is known for, but in reality it has the nice good ol roland sound, (only it's resonance, when you go for over about 60-70%, it soynds shit, but maybe some experts could have found a way, who knows...??). But the most i like in the jp, is the UI...Good plain one knob function.from left to right..It could not be better...well, anyway man, thanx for your response, and keep making videos, man, you're a master..and i say that true... Hey...
Patrick Martin ✌🏼👌🏼 thanks to you, man! 🙏🏼 Yes, that synth is really good! And you can adjust the resonance to prevent overdriving it. I will keep on grabbing vids 🤙🏼. Good luck with your decision and keep me/us informed! Grtzz, Roger
Thanks for making this tutorial. I have been struggling with resampling with effects on. I have tried resampling with the effects set to instr. rec. but it still is not resampling with the effects. Please help.
Hi! Sorry for not replying on your questions. Did you manage already to resample with the effects? I'm thinking about redoing that function in a quick-vid. Interested?
Peace "Double M". I've seen the SP-808 being used a bit here and there lately and it is an interesting piece of gear. I personally prefer some of the older gear over what is out today and I really enjoy my MV-8800. I was considering an SP-404. With that being said do you still use the SP-808 and if so why do you still use it? Do you prefer it over the 404? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hi! Thanks for your message and positive feedback. So, you have the MV-8800 :D In that case I would go for a 404. Why? The SP-808 is really the predecessor of the MV so you won't win a lot with the SP-808. I bought mine in 2017 and in 2018 I bought the MV-8000 because of the advanced features. The 404 is a better unit due to it's effects and SD-card. I love the 808 because of its clunkiness and it's a deep machine but next to the MV you will enjoy the 404 more. In fact...you can create WAV-files of MV-patterns and load them into your 404. Then you can play more live with and 404 and MV. :D :D Good luck!
Hi! You mean to adjust the BPM of the sample? This you can see in the video here ua-cam.com/video/wd1mmlsZGDw/v-deo.htmlm40s. It's called time stretching without adjusting the pitch. The beat can go faster or slower. I hope this is what you are searching for :-) Greetz, Roger
Roger The MIDI Maniac Hi so basically i have a song playing on the cd player i need to slow or speed my sample speed up to match the track on the cd player, it was easy with the sp202 because the pitch would slow it down and i could use the bpm and match them together, not sure how to do it on sp808, a video would be very helpful, thanks.

Thank you very much for these great tutorials! I just picked up a sp 808, but im having trouble with pops& clicks at the end of a sample. Its especially audible when i push another pad after the first sample. Is there anyway I can make a fade out? Or perhaps a workaround? Im trying to chop a melody, maybe the sp808 is not very suitable for this? I have the impression its more a loop sampler, but i hope im wrong. Cant remember i have had the same problem with my sp 606 (which i sold, stupid enough)
Thank you so much for your great message. All done with pleasure. Ok, the click/pop at the end of a sample is because the sample isn't ending nice. This can be changes by adjusting the end of the sample in SAMPLE EDIT. Place the cursor at the last number of LENGTH and use the dial to adjust the amount in small steps till the moment the pops/clicks disappear. This is the way to fine tune your samples. There is no way to use ZERO CROSS or a fade-out. Yep...old school ;-) It's indeed more a loop sampler OR a shot sampler. Enjoy this beauty!
