"A million dollars worth of plywood." 😁👍
If I counted correctly, there's about 30 sheets in there and in my area they cost $150 a sheet so it's a pretty dang expensive $4,500 worth of wood back there, lol.
Great review very comprehensive. Answered all the questions I had. You are a great car reviewer! Keep up the great work!
I can see this truck in its Pro trim as being popular with city-bound tradesmen.
Ive got 10 incoming for my solar business. I should have ordered 40 + a lariat for myself
Nah
Great job Ford can’t wait to test drive one
AGREED! He hit the nail on the head when describing the Lariat interior. It’s a shame they made last minute changes by added brass / bronze colored interior trim. I don’t recall seeing this in any pre production units and feel it looks very out of place. I will be trying to vinyl wrap or modify these colors to achieve or more sporty look when my truck arrives. I just don’t see how or what they were going for. We were told it was going to have a “black” interior. In reality we will be getting the light gray seats and the dash has brown / brass / bronze tones through the trim. I assume this could have been due to supply shortages or done on purpose to encourage people to move up to Platinum. Disappointed…
For my use the truck would be less applicable, but "Expedition Max" would nail it.
A lot of range? they need to bump those numbers up to 450 with a 175kw battery, 230-320 is pretty low... But I like where they are going.
Automakers are having a touch time getting 450 miles out of their lighter more aerodynamic cars, 230-320 miles is impressive for 6500 brick
99.5 percent of people don't need more than 250-300 miles. People who might drive 800 miles a day should consider something else for now. Otherwise, carrying another half ton of batteries for the once in 5 years when it might actually come in handy makes no sense.
@@ohger1 thank you stating the obvious 🤷♂️😂😂
But there is no reason they can’t offer an optional extended range for people like me. It would actually be a great option for people who can’t charge from home & need to use the public chargers.
You deserve the question also. Very good lookin' truck. I see that it tows smaller boats well. But..... How far can you go down a boat ramp until the whole thing sizzles and percolates the water?
It handles 2 foot water depth for fording. The battery is fully sealed.
Does the car need fluids? Like for cooling or braking?
Yes to both. Braking is conventional although the brake pads will last forever because the truck uses regenerative braking as well as friction braking. I replaced my Tesla S pads at 80K miles and they had half a life or maybe more left. I mostly replaced them to make sure the hardware didn't seize from age. The cooling of course doesn't run anywhere near the pressure or temperature that cooling a gas engine needs, and there is zero combustion by products, so the coolant truly is lifetime.
Not nearly enough range to even remotely consider this truck at this crazy price!
Agree, needs about 400 miles and to weigh about 1000lbs less. Not bad for first swing.
Yes we need 500-750 miles of Range to get 250-300 miles. And manufacturers are jumping the gun. They need to get the Charging infrastructure going at least the dealerships first...
@@driverman9528 - I wouldn’t be able to drive out of Texas without charging! Chargers are few & far between & I heard today that our power grid is low on power - this it truly the dumbest crap to introduce something that has no infrastructure to support it. Aside from that, I’m not opposed to EVs.
I had an electric only range of only 42 miles with my Volt and you know what? I went 2500 miles between 10 gallons fill-ups. It all depends on the use case for you vehicle. MOST F-150 used for work very rarely go over 200 miles in a day, For those situations, you can rent, or use another vehicle in your fleet. Not a big deal.
Huh? My current F-150 has a range of maybe 350 miles.
Great review as always. It is interesting to see how many reviewers came away from the San Antonio event talking about timeshifting your electricity usage. It sounds great, but it seems odd that Ford would assume that so many buyers are willing to park the truck at home to timeshift electrical consumption.
Most cars sit for about 22.5 hours per day. What difference does it make when they charge? My phone "time shifts" to optimize batter life by slowing charging overnight when it knows that I will be sleeping. Not seeing any difference.
@@farriskhan2352 yes they sit that long but work trucks don't sit at home that much. That's the difference. This isn't a Model 3. It is out there powering a job site and moving stuff around. During a blackout they'll have to hit a charging station with backup power to charge up. So no, they're not at home powering the house during the day and recharging at night. You said it yourself. Most cars sit at home. This is a totally different target demo and set of use cases.
@@easternpa2 But just like a Model 3, it typically sits for 10+ hours overnight.
@@farriskhan2352 yes, while it is being charged. That was my entire point. Ford needs to drop this time shifting narrative. It was a late add and doesn't align with the typical use case for a work truck. Sure you're charging from the grid at night but you're not running your house with it during the day to save money. You don't buy the truck only to park it full time.
Thanks for watching and showing love.

100 or less something rang on highways with full charge if towing I believe
Glossing over the fact that it costs 80,000. 7 years later when the battery goes bad then how much will that cost to replace? 50,000?
The battery costs 100 billion dollars to replace.
where would they charge the truck?
At home or at work or at any electrical plug that is convenient?
@@farriskhan2352 I'm just asking cuz I have a tesla so would they share or would Ford have there own charging stations.?
الله رهيب 😭
Where’s Brian?
Now the question, a $60K Lightening vs $60K ICE F150, which one should I go for?
That depends on a few things. If you use it as a daily driver and if you normally drive less than 200 miles per day, electric makes sense. Also depends on how much electricity costs where you live. Assuming the ICE gets 23 MPG and gas is $4.31 per gallon, the price you pay for electricity needs to be 43.2¢ per kWh or less to cost less driving electric vs gas to go the same distance. Not figuring in the savings on preventative maintenance like oil changes, waiting for charging, and such.
That's why Silverado EV is coming next year and redesign Lightning in 2025 on TE1 platform.
This is a modified F-150 platform where GM Silverado EV BT1 is a EV from ground up next year.
Wait for Ford 2025 redesign.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is already being promised a redesign for the 2025 model year. Reuters mentioned this when discussing Ford’s production plans for the Lightning.
It's not really a modified F-150. Totally different frame underneath and, other than styling, a mostly different body.
It is hard to believe it is real.

OK
It’s the best truck for a non truck person. Heavy hauling, mountain roads, snow and ice, that’s when owners of this would really see its shortcomings. If using in your business or you have an employee driving it, you just can’t afford to factor in all the downtime and lost productivity due to range and charging issues. It’s a great future tech but batteries just have to catch up.
There are batteries that could be fit in the truck and you get 600 miles of range. However, they are very expensive, and not worth the hassle. Weight is also another consideration. A 250 kWh pack can get the truck to 500 miles, easily, but it would weigh a lot.
one f150 or three mach e, that's the EV battery math
The Mach E uses a 99 KWH battery, the F150-L a 131 KWH battery. That's less than a third larger not three times. Do the math.
Why is no one talking about charging times outside the house?? I see a lack of DC Fast Charging so road trips are gonna suck.
44 minutes for 15% to 80%. That means you could drive across the country with approximately 10 hours of charge time, compared to getting gas which would take around 1 hour for the same amount of fill ups. That's not bad considering the drive is ~45 hours to begin with. So the benefits outweight the draw backs in my opinion. How many times a year do you drive more than 300 miles at a time?
fyi ihate the new cnet logo
Still think hybrids would be better.
Now if they ever stop dragging their feet and actually get production to a reasonable rate for this, maybe they won't be sold out for the year...Assuming interest holds. The mockery isn't doing all the numbers it COULD be doing, if they would quit halting production and take from their chip supply for dino burners.
First, because I'm Lightning quick.
Welkom to Russian state tv-radio world communications ministry show C-NYET automobil
It looks 10 yrs old and obsolete before it even launches
The triangle truck (CyberTruck) looks like a cut and paste out of Blade Runner... which would make it 40 years old, or 30 years older than the F-150 Lightning, which you consider 10 years old.... well really 45 years old by the time if comes out (if it does).
"Has lot if it", 230 mile epa!
You know because they got a test truck they have to say nice things about it.
Anything less than 300 miles is doa!
Pre order numbers disagree with you.
Bet extended range for the pro is still a sub 50k truck; with tax credit its around 43k. So its in line or cheaper than all its competition.
Most people never drive 230 miles a day. I commute 3 hours and never put 230 a day on my work truck.
@@lawrenceshdow I've had an EV for 4 years,I can tell you 230 mi is not enough.
230 at 80% charge is about 170 miles.
Minus environmental condition and road topology you are down to 120 - 150.
A few rounds trips here and there, you are down to 60 miles left.
If you are trying nit to charge during the day because electricity rate is too high, then you are done fir the day.
If you don't mind the rate, then you lose 30 minutes fast charging, or 3 hrs level 2 charging
@@enoughofthis partially you are right, but not all. in my case, I always start a day with full charge, environmental impact doesn’t impact range that much to be honest with you. In my 3 years of EV use, I have never used more than 200 miles a day. I only use my EV for regional use.
@@chelsea7xhf fair enough, btw, you are not supposed to full charge everyday.
More like 80%
@@themidgetsman even if I don't drive 200 miles a day, I need to be able to operate/use my vehicle without having to charge it every night. At the end if my day,I need to have extra charges for 2 ot 3 days di that:
1- if there is a blackout during the night, I am ok.
2- if I forget to charge at night, I am ok the next day.
3- if its really cold tomorrow, I am ok.
4- if there us a last minute emergency in the evening, I am ok.
For that, I need at least 350 miles epa
you mention how much some people are concerned with range, in my view those people are just mentally incapable of accepting EV's they just to cling to that to justify their weirdness and fear of change
half the truck for twice the $, 73k & cloth interior? lol so glad the tree huggers are pushing society to the brink of financial stability
I'm starting to think these are all paid advertisement videos:
Ford will pay for you to come to San Antonio only if you agree to their terms:
1) agree to embargo dates
2) talk about Pros Only: power backup, range/specs, advantages over ICE F150, most used features
3) DON'T MENTION BAD THINGS: No air suspension, can not do full self driving (lane change, make turns, etc...)

@@justin9152 haha don't get me wrong. I have a deposit on the F150 lightning, Rivian R1T, and Silverado as well. Can't wait to get an EV truck. I just think viewers should know that these videos can never be 100% honest. Another person mentioned, be too negative and they won't give you cars to review in the future, but be too positive and are basically lying to your audience.

"be too negative and they won't give you cars to review in the future, but be too positive and are basically lying to your audience"
There is truth to this. I saw the same thing with computer games. If you want to be the first to see something, and get access to insiders, you can't slag them when they make a less than stellar product. Most of the really successful car reviews don't really mention a lot of bad things. Having said that, I still think it is difficult now to get a really crappy car.
If you think 300 miles is a great range go for it! My Yukon XL can go over 700 miles! Also it takes me about 10 minutes tops to refuel for another 700 miles. Not 80% like EV's on quick charge. Isn't that a oxymoron?? 😂
Same as extended range in my 5.0 f150. 36 gallons can hit well over 700 miles. But the e vehicle option is really cool to have for those that want one.
Wow 700 miles, that is so cool. Anyway, no one cares.
@@vandreadparty LOL
You don't need to go the restroom? How do you drive continuously for 700 miles every day?
Most humans DON'T drive their trucks for about 22.5 hours per day... plenty of time to charge. But you do you, Craig.
Thanks for watching and showing love.

I take Silverado and more range. This is not good range. The base is a joke.
Ford has the data. 95% of the days that F-150s for work are driven, they go less than 174 miles. The truck in a fleet situation with other ICE trucks is PERFECT for almost all use cases.
@@farriskhan2352 A truck is used to haul and tow. That reduces range drastically on already poor 220 miles. Not to mention cold.
@@themidgetsman The lower level F150 with 220 miles is targeted to working people who do exactly that, tow and haul. I think you are confusing luxury models to working level trucks.
I would buy one of those vehicles just to give it a single cab conversion, as well as to rip out its envirotard electric crap, which, by the way, ironically harms the environment MORE than the internal combustion engine that it pretends to be better than, so that way, I will not have to deal with that stupidity anymore.
The Ford F-150 looks amazing! It is nice to see all the different mode options it offers. It overall looks like a great EV pickup truck. 🛻⚡️
