Hi, I'm glad to see someone who still appreciates the K100 as it is without wanting to turn it into a cafe racer. I bought, or rather saved a 1991 K100 16v just like yours, if I hadn't brought it home it would have ended badly. But I got carried away and to clean it well I dismantled it all, absolutely all of it! I started a year ago and now I'm close to completing it. When reassembling it I replaced all the screws on the bike with stainless steel screws, and all the rubber parts, and I also overhauled the water/oil pump. Everything that could be dismantled and needed to be replaced/overhauled has been done. I hope a good bike comes out. If you need advice I now know every part of the bike very well. For the injectors I recommend you buy an ultrasonic tank, even a cheap one, it works very well. I forgot, I'm Italian and I'm writing to you from Italy, just a curiosity, I saw that you're wearing a shirt with the Moto Morini logo, the factory is in my city! See you soon, Matteo.
Hi Matteo, thanks for the kind words! Not only do I have at Moto Morini sweat shirt or two, I actually also own a 3 1/2 Sport and a Corsaro 125 Supersport. They'll eventually make an appearance on this channel!
My '88 K-100 RS SE (8-valve, non-ABS) looks just like this one, except it's Pearl White with Royal Blue accents...and with my white helmet, other motorists here in Norway are convinced I'm a cop ;) This one is a Nurburgring Special Edition, marketed only in Germany. It has the Nurburgring graphic on the fairing, with 320 mm iron disks from Menani Racing, and a Sebring exhaust system. It came with the inner pannier bags, top box, and tank bag...I bought it in 2010 from the original owner. I switch between the K-100 and my '76 R90S (with 293,000 km. on the odometer)...and on the Enjoyment Scale, they're indistinguishable.;) I'm sure you'll have a jolly time riding yours...
Test rode a K1 at UK MIRA so high speed! Loved it! Went oit and bought a K1100 16v RS hated it. Vibrations everywhere, that 1100 motor way so out of balance. So this is my ideal bike, sweet 1000 16v motor. That was the last BMW I ever had, swapped it for Honda ST1100........60,000 uk miles later, now thats a bike.
@@garagemoneypit the K1 is a fantastic bike, (I have one to compliment my R100RS) but I would say that what you have there is probably the best compromise as you effectively have the torque monster engine that the 16v K1 engine gives you, with the convenience of the RS bodywork and side cases. I’ve also owned a K11 and actually think the 1000cc 16v engine is smoother so enjoy this as it looks like you’ve bought yourself a cracker!
The K1100RS definitely has the same or more power - the K1/K100RS 16V fall in between the regular 8V K100 and the 1100s. The reason I'm saying the 1100 has the same or more power is that the US model K1 is a little down on power compared to its European counterpart (the European one has 100hp, the US K1 seems to be quoted between 90hp-95hp). The European K1100RS also are listed as 100hp, which was a "gentlemens agreement" limit in Europe back then. IIRC the US 1100s are also quoted at 100hp, plus they have more torque.

That extra factory body work makes it look so much better and so much less fugly. It actually hides that big square gas tank and makes it look like at first glance a modern bike. Pfft you've never been poor before have you, I'd ride 18 year old tires until the tred wore off an then replace them. Just don't do sport bike stuff on it on a race track. Cruising you should be fine on any age tire. I've driven on them down to the metal thread before replacing them. Tires are expensive, you don't just throw them out because they are old. What if your wife did that to you?
@@kasperkjrsgaard144795% of motorcycle accidents are caused by people going too fast or too slow than they should, and it doesn't stop people from doing either. Never had an accident from a tire just going flat.
I've had a couple of very close calls caused by aged out tires rapidly deflating. In one case, with the sidewall blowing out on a mountain road. That's why I tend to put new tires on both cars and bikes that have old to ancient tires on them, especially when I expect to use them semi-regularly.
Looks as if that tool kit was never used/opened...this should be interesting as there seems to be very little interest K bikes in the US...probably under-appreciated compared to air heads
I agree, the toolkit certainly doesn't look like it's been used a lot. I'd expect that with the low mileage, though. Yes, the earlier K bike really seem to have fallen out of favour (if they were ever in favour in the US). I had been keeping an eye out for a K1100LT originally and eventually gave up. It's been almost twenty years since I owned an RS, let's see how I get along with it.

My father and I were well impressed with the BMW toolkit on my R65 which I bought in 1980.
They definitely had good toolkits back when the owner was trusted to do some of their own maintenance.
