My Grandad worked on the swing bridge for many years during his railway service. With the river dividing the East and West Riding if a body floated down he would go and retrieve it. Being a Burma veteran I guess it didn’t bother him. One Riding paid 4 times the amount for a body retrieval than the other Riding so all the bodies ended up on that bank of the river. He lived in Drax until his death in the late 70s.

I remember the name Dax power station being mentioned a lot in the 80's, now I know what and where it is. Good use of the drone.

Excellent as per usual , a pity those rails at Drax still don't go to Hull and Cudworth , esp' with Hull getting freeport status ,would make a perfect freight line

Hello there. Yes it’s a shame the line was so hastily removed. The reason Drax is only 50% converted to biomass is that the quantity of fuel required cannot be delivered to site.

Nice, Didcot power station had the horrible black area like this, coal. Long gone, gas now, No towers or chimney, boiler house, cleared land, all flat when last went by along side into Didcot. a bit off topic but guess at 4 minutes, greenhouses, fruit or flowers, vegetables being grown, impressive site and the power station, big one that. Nice drone shots.

Hey Daniel 😀 I recall didcot power station being demolished. Drax sure is a big site.
Thanks for the compliment on the drone work :)

I love that old buildings architecture, the station at Carlton Towers looks very well kept. At the start of the video by the bridge abutment on the West side, was that building railway related? It looked like it may be.

Hello Seamus, it looks like it was related to the bridge but it isn’t shown on the 1885 plans or mentioned. It is certainly the same era. Thanks for watching and commenting:)

Think I counted 25 trucks, quite long for a UK train.

At least this Great iconic power station still has still left its coal side on standby for energies as still say, we can't cope on green energy,
And should have never pulled Ferry Bridge and Eggborough down neither,
We as a Country are living on a ticking time bomb with all this so-called climate change rubbish,
but makes you wonder what would happen if every power station in the country decided to shut for a week or 2 to teach all a lesson of coping with EV cars, electric pumps in the homes,
be like living in the stone age,

It sure is crazy chasing the net zero dream as it is pure fantasy. The real goal is total dependancy on other countries. It’s madness.

I live just outside of Selby in Doncaster as looking outside years ago where I still live, you could see, Ferry Bridge, Eggborough, Thorp-Marsh and next to each power station stood coalmines as far as you could see,
I miss looking at these iconic building as today, people haven't seen life and been fed rubbish by scientists,
all of this can see going to turn pair shape when everything just goes down with more black-outs,
best thing was the steam as you could see for miles, still interesting is this as kids want lessons of true energy instead of just mean green that isn't fit for purpose to cope on its own.

You are correct good sir. Net zero is exactly that. A dream. The morons in charge here in the United States have put many people out of good jobs chasing it. They promised too bankrupt all the coal companies, which is exactly what they did, with no concern or help for the people and communities who relied on coal.
