  • In the early 1990's Britain's dependence on coal was still high despite alternative means of available resources for electricity generation. The small town of Ferrybridge situated amongst the Yorkshire coalfields was home to one of several coal-fired stations around the county. Seen here in 1991, coal traffic in the form of water transport and rail, continually ferried to and from feeding the never-ending demand for this fossil fuel. Ferrybridge power station continued in operation until final closure of the plant in 2016.

    Merry go round class 56 coal trains. Saw these on BBC Railwatch back in the mid 80s.
