Just saw Charlie at the Jeezum Crow Festival at Jay Peak, VT, on Saturday - he was outstanding and very rightly well received. And he had a gig in Indiana the next day! Brutal, but a pro's pro, Charlie. So FN good.
I do Son's song a cappella at open mics and (rare) gigs and it FN kills. (Albeit I can't mimic his asynchronous hand clapping; I do it in time.) Such a powerful and ultimately true song, and Charlie is clearly paying homage to Son House. And who brought Son House back into the limelight (and retaught Son his own songs?) Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson of Canned Heat. Son called him the best harp player of all time, btw.
@@mainek2132 I’m guilty of applying modern day synchronising when I’m singing it too! We can forgive Son, though. He was performing the music as he remembered it.
Here’s a little thing about Mag and Stan hauling down the road in the winter time Riding on their thumbs but walking most of the way Stan used to hop trains but Mag’s afraid so they get their traveling done another way Just wanna get down south to where it’s warm True friends, true friends are hard to find To get one you gotta be one And then they’ll always be around An old guy stops in a beat-up ford and asks how far did they wanna go And Stan says we’re going all the way to the end This old guy he’s lost his wife and lost his grip on the rest of his life Just drives around now listening to the radio True friends, true friends are hard to find To get one you gotta be one And then they’ll always be around Now it’s 4 days on the road in that rusty ride and 3 nights sleeping out on the side Eating roadstand fruit, coffee and refried beans When they reach the gulf they all lay on the beach and soak up the sun and get used to the heat Talkin about how cold it is up in I. Falls True friends, true friends are hard to find To get one you gotta be one And then they’ll always be around There ain’t no end to their family, their web covers the whole country Maybe it ain’t true that we have to be alone Maybe they’ll just drive around pickin’ folks up, being yr friend when yr down on yr luck Maybe there’s a car big enough for us all True friends, true friends are hard to find To get one you gotta be one And then they’ll always be around
Saw Charlie here in London, what a treat. He really is one of the great ones.

"This old guy, he lost his wife and lost his grip on the rest of his life.. Just drives around listens to the radio..." 💔🙌
He is local to my area so we love seeing him live!
@1PhoenixRisen I've been lucky enough to see him a handful of times in the Wisconsin bluegrass scene 🥰
An American treasure.
Unbelievable
Amen i am incredibly blessed to have more than 1. Love yall
“A True friend is hard to find” is a Son House lyric from “grinnin’ in your face”
Wonder if this is an homage or lovely coincidence.
Homage, more than likely.

Here’s a little thing about Mag and Stan hauling down the road in the winter time
Riding on their thumbs but walking most of the way
Stan used to hop trains but Mag’s afraid so they get their traveling done another way
Just wanna get down south to where it’s warm
True friends, true friends are hard to find
To get one you gotta be one
And then they’ll always be around
An old guy stops in a beat-up ford and asks how far did they wanna go
And Stan says we’re going all the way to the end
This old guy he’s lost his wife and lost his grip on the rest of his life
Just drives around now listening to the radio
True friends, true friends are hard to find
To get one you gotta be one
And then they’ll always be around
Now it’s 4 days on the road in that rusty ride and 3 nights sleeping out on the side
Eating roadstand fruit, coffee and refried beans
When they reach the gulf they all lay on the beach and soak up the sun and get used to the heat
Talkin about how cold it is up in I. Falls
True friends, true friends are hard to find
To get one you gotta be one
And then they’ll always be around
There ain’t no end to their family, their web covers the whole country
Maybe it ain’t true that we have to be alone
Maybe they’ll just drive around pickin’ folks up, being yr friend when yr down on yr luck
Maybe there’s a car big enough for us all
True friends, true friends are hard to find
To get one you gotta be one
And then they’ll always be around
Nice thing about sitting on a Hollow Log in the middle of nowhere...
This is one of them songs you'd want to listen to without a deeper reason, but no...
Lovely nonetheless
do true friends exist or is it like the American Dream?
❤️❤️💕❤️💕❤️❤️💕🫂
It's interesting..I'm a 56 yr old guy watching Ugly Betty and listening to True Friends...young me would not like me...young me was ignorant
Is that a seven string...?
