ABOUT CHARLIE PARR
An easily confused and very shy individual, Charlie Parr has been traveling around singing his songs ever since leaving Austin Minnesota in the 1980's in search of Spider John Koerner, whom he found about 100 miles north at the Viking Bar one Sunday night. The experience changed his life, made him more or less unemployable, and brings us to now: 13 recordings, 250 shows a year or more, 200,000 miles on a well broke in Kia, and a nasty fear of heights. Resonator fueled folk songs from Duluth Minnesota.

I remember seeing him in Duluth in the early 2000s... I didn't realize at the time how fortunate I was.
This man is a national treasure. If you ever get a chance to see him then do so. His shows are transcendent.

It blew my mind. tears rolling down my cheeks hearing Cheap Wine. I was so happy. This is why music is the best thing in my life besides my family. What a pleasure finding Charlie. does anyone know how the percussion works? it looks like it's all coming from his bare foot (heel for "kick" and toes for highs) but how did they mic it to sound so full? it's awesome, I'm just confused lol

Here, they just have a microphone pointed at his foot. He stomps the shit out of the floor when he plays, so it's plenty loud. Usually when he plays live, he uses an amplified stompbox, and it's a very bass heavy sound, you can feel the thump in your chest. It's awesome.

I saw Charlie about a year before Covid in Hamden, CT. Told him how much I loved his music. He did a song he said his mom hated ; ) about a woodchuck, he and his dad were watching while sitting on the front porch, sippin' a beer. Sounds weird, I was transported ! As if I was sittin' outside on the porch with them. Spoiler alert: the woodchuck didn't live much longer.
