Yet China’s total debt GDP is 300% and Malaysia is accepting China’s exporting of its state owned enterprises debt to build high speed rail. Take a look at Laos, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and African countries in debt traps to China .
Anwar Ibrahim’s tenure as Prime Minister has been nothing short of a disappointment. His so-called reforms to reduce the fiscal deficit have done little to tackle Malaysia’s staggering debt, which remains one of the highest in Southeast Asia. Instead of addressing the root causes, he’s resorted to increasing taxes and cutting subsidies-moves that only add more burden to the rakyat. While he claims these measures target the wealthy, the reality is clear: they’ve done little to fix Malaysia’s low tax-to-GDP ratio, exposing weak governance. Meanwhile, household debt continues to spiral out of control, with no real solutions in sight beyond vague talk of financial literacy. Anwar’s policies lack vision, his leadership fails to inspire, and his decisions-far from helping the nation-are pushing ordinary Malaysians further into hardship. Simply put, he’s proving to be a poor leader at a critical time.
The recent budget is commendable serving as a testament to Prime Minister Anwar's fiscal acumen. Taxes have been strategically allocated to the appropriate sectors. In contrast, examining the UK's latest budget underscores the thoughtful precision of Malaysia's approach.
Wait for the downtrend trajectory of sales from oil producer petronas which is the heart of Malaysia’s economy and we can see how Anwar will perform because the pinch is already biting it’s way.
Household debts or government national debts? 🎉🎉🎉🎉 As of June 2024, the breakdown of household debt in Malaysia by sector of borrowing is: Housing loans: 61% of total household debt Vehicle loans: 13.5% of total household debt Personal loans: 12.4% of total household debt Other loans: Includes credit card debt, non-residential property purchases, and securities
Foreigners are enjoying our subsidies, neighbours coming in here enjoying our subsidies too.. these subsidies coming from OUR tax money. Also set strict KPI for menteries, not doing their job? KPI not reached? get rid of them, replace with more capable ones.. spend rakyat's $ wisely, so we would see progress moving forward not makan gaji buta only
That is why why we need GST. Secondly don't be proud as our petrol is cheaper than that off neighbouring countries. Our govt pays the subsidy. Imagine by increasing a bit the petrol price ,we save a lot. Imagine we can save RM10 billion a year. We can built one LRT system.
Yeah, he try to correct it by rationalize subsidies, increase taxes, cancelling pensions for gov staff. Basically pushing citizens to pay for it. Instead of try increasing country's economy income.
No he dodnt cancel pensions for civil servants. He changed the pensin scheme to the epf scheme for those who joined the civil service starting jan 2024. Pls fac6 chk n dont dish out misinformation
The country has to go back to the drawing boards. Look at, what are the value added and ROI that has benefited the country on the big amount ov money spents, resulting in escalating sovereign debts.
I don't like subsidies and I think it needs to be abolished. But I don't think it's right to say Anwar is doing justice to the economy. To date, this is our largest budget and yet he's pulling out the subsidies one by one? Where's the money going? Taxing the rich more isn't the solution and his definition of who is rich is inconclusive. Malaysia has issues with brain drain, you take away the subsidies without cutting tax rate, these people will just move to other countries since Malaysian workforce is highly skilled and always in demand. You don't have to look far, many Malaysian engineers in the Oil and Gas industry have moved to Middle East for high pay and low tax. What's gonna happen now? Debt has been going up although they are mostly domestic.
A politician merely thinks about the next election, a leader thinks about the next generation. A leader is also a politician. 18 months before the election, he will surely be taking some popular decisions..
Thanks to the corrupted eras of Mahathir two terms and the subsequent free self-served ministers busy scheming how to drain the reserves and neglecting the economic strategies. Hope that PM Anwar in his term laden with so many craps, can gradually set the country from despair further. If only the ill-gotten monies can be recovered to mitigate the poverty and improve the infrastructures.
We didnt cause the debts and he's now taking it from us... and then using it (the excessive funds maybe) to increase the govt servant's salary. Demm... hopeless future.
In ridiculous debt but donate 100 million to Palestine where as rich middle east countries dont even donate. Malaysia now under great flood and Anwar ask private sector to donate to flood victims
I thought that Singapore registered vehicles are only allowed to purchase 97 and above (which is not subsidised). If Malaysians or Singaporeans or anyone else driving these Singapore registered vehicles are caught pumping 95 and below, Malaysian authorities must severely fine them to the maximum, like multiple times the amount subsidised, and especially deal very heavily with recalcitrants. This will surely put a stop to such unwanted behaviour.

I think wise prudent spending by the government is more viable by not building too many mega projects that increases the country deficits. The money collected by fiscal means can further reduced the country deficit debts of 1.5 trillion rm to a more manageable level. The household debts is a result of consumer high borrowings on the car loans caused by the protection of the car infant industries. Whatever monies left after spending on housing debts 60% and car loans 13% is not enough for an average income earners (27% left). I think it high time the car industries like Proton and Perodua must learn to compete internationally and the car protection infant taxes be reduced gradually so that families will have more money to spent on essential items. If Singapore government can managed the housing of the people like the HDB concepts so well, I can't see why it is not done here. The housing debts of 60% is too high in the long run and something needs to be done to reduce the housing price speculations that raised the property to unimageable prices. Let us pray we have good leaders who can managed the economy well and get us out the country debts so we can have a better life for everyone here in Malaysia.

Agree with Annuar. Difficult to swallow but sustainsble for country. A good PM is not looking how much money you want to spend but should be in a position to manage sovereign financial risk

How did we get there, 'it's because of kleptocracy of the previous govt.'
Since taking office … he had introduced the Economic Framework and other measures ….
Just 2 years in his administration, by normal standards 3 more years until the next election 🗳.
Anyone who understands reasons and have gone through more than 60years of previous administration, must be willing to let him steer the economy into the next election for the economy to bloom … for the next generation.
The definition of wealthy by his administrations definition is still very grey

Domestic debt - their biggest source of funds is from their states of Sarawak & Johor
All countries are in debt. Simple
Some cannot pay debt and go bankcrupt. Simple
ours is not even that bad. Simple
They can seek help from IMF if they cannot pay!
THOSE DEBT PROBLEMS ARE INHERITED FROM THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT FROM TUN M UNTIL PRESENT GOVERNMENT.IT IS DIFFICULT TO TACKLE
The Malaysian economy is overburdened with deficit debt.
What's your alternative?
dont worry bro. Malaysia food best in the world.

The recent budget is commendable serving as a testament to Prime Minister Anwar's fiscal acumen. Taxes have been strategically allocated to the appropriate sectors. In contrast, examining the UK's latest budget underscores the thoughtful precision of Malaysia's approach.
Walaun people can't understand this...
Wait for the downtrend trajectory of sales from oil producer petronas which is the heart of Malaysia’s economy and we can see how Anwar will perform because the pinch is already biting it’s way.
Fixing is not a solution. Sustainability is. And it is impossible for it to be sustainable.
Anwar: tries to fix debt issues.
Also Anwar: creates more debt. 150% more than than what Najib did.
Household debts or government national debts? 🎉🎉🎉🎉
As of June 2024, the breakdown of household debt in Malaysia by sector of borrowing is:
Housing loans: 61% of total household debt
Vehicle loans: 13.5% of total household debt
Personal loans: 12.4% of total household debt
Other loans: Includes credit card debt, non-residential property purchases, and securities

He can't even reduce fuel price "which he made a promise to the people". Ain't no way he will reduce the country's debt.
Fixing mess from previous PM lol. Poor Anwar hope he live long enough to fix Malaysia.
The country has to go back to the drawing boards. Look at, what are the value added and ROI that has benefited the country on the big amount ov money spents, resulting in escalating sovereign debts.
Was this written by AI?
More taxes to the people are the only way out.
Daily food cost is high

Pmx will answer, that's not my problem. That was caused by previous government.😮
What about corrupt money stolen wouldn't that help to pay the debt.?
You mean the PH govt cancelled the deal UMNO led govt mad with UAE on IPIC?
The cancellation of the deal made Malaysia lost billions.
The problem is if you raise tax and reduce subsidies, you suddenly become unpopular and then you lose the next elections
A politician merely thinks about the next election, a leader thinks about the next generation.
A leader is also a politician.
18 months before the election, he will surely be taking some popular decisions..

If only the ill-gotten monies can be recovered to mitigate the poverty and improve the infrastructures.

Syrian president asked Israel for help.😅
Good PM moves! Singaporean curi subsided petrol, while Thais took our subsidies sugar, rice, oil and petrol😊😊
We got thieves surrounding us! Scary! That is why PMX has to cut subsidies! Haiya!😢
This will surely put a stop to such unwanted behaviour.

you can see how wrong his work is by looking at the budget he presented. If he said that we are in debt and need to cut spending, why is his budget is the biggest ever presented in Malaysia parliament? How did his name got listed as the richest people on earth when he has never own business ever in his life?
Maybe this will help
1) implement back GST. Let us face reality here. Najib did the right thing by implementing GST.
I know. I know. It is hard to implement back as it is a tacit acknowledgement that Najib was right..
No need to apologise. Just reimplement back.
2) increase petrol price now by a tkeast 10 cents.
