Before separation the Malaysian police who patrolled Singapore bullied local population and extorted people with trumped up offences. One Christmas eve when carollers were singing within their church compound Malaysian Riot Police from a nearby cantonment fired tear gas. Their military under a brigadier Alsagoff was belligerant to Singapore leaders. You should read Death of a Democracy (1969) by John Slimming about the militaty siding with rioters against Chinese civilians during the KL riots. Even today corruption there is endemic and systemic.

Despite all the disagreement, the separation happen smoothly without any bloodshed from both side. Im not saying tungku decision is the best but at the same time it is not the worst. Tungku could become a dictator and accusing LKY and his supporter as pro communist to disposed them just like how suharto did to depose any of his political rival in indonesia. In the end tungku choose not to do it because he know if that have been done malaysia will turn to be more chaotic. Dont forget that malaysia is facing communist insurgency and indonesia confrontation at that time. Early 60 is the chaotic era for malaysian. Even if tungku agree with LKY idea, other malay nationalist supporter will not and dispose tunku for different pro malay nationalist leader. Just like malaysia politic today where pro malay nationalist supporter vote for different pro malay nationalist political party instead of UMNO.
As malay malaysia i personally support the malaysia for malaysia concept by LKY but most malay around wont. They prefer malaysia to be a homogenous country like japan, korea or gulf arab where only one ethnic group in charge. I believe that impossible based on our population, geography and economy. They view non malay as outsider and hope non malay slowly immigrate to other country or assimilate to be malay. Even if that happen, immigrant from different country will replace them. Let face it, multicultural community have been part of foundation in this region since malacca sultanate. It have been part of our history from beginning and will continue in the future.

      May i add here
This concept of Malaysian Malaysia from Malay viewpoint is a facade for " Chinese Malaysia" concept.
And I must say Tunku was so merciful. He could have locked LKY under ISA just the way the latter was known to do to his opponents
On discovering that Tunku was about to expel Singapore ,The British High commissioner went to see Tunku on 8/8/1965
He proposed Tunku to lock LKY under ISA if that could helpTunkunto maintain Singapore within federation
But Tunku was very upset when LKY incites the non Malay based political parties to unite against UMN

In more rural part of Malaysia, the chinese lived in “new villages” while malay villages usually start with “parit”. As a Chinese who grew up in Malaysia, I barely see other ethnic groups as the schools are racially segmented too.
After living in Singapore and being part of their community events for several years, interactions with other races come naturally. No Chinese supremacy, just speak English and speak to anyone.

From 8:45 - (paraphrasing): the expulsion of Singapore shocked not just Singapore, but the whole world. because it was unprecedented for a state to be ejected from a political union.
Two questions: 1) What was the true intent of Tunku Abdul Rahman and the KL leaders in expelling Singapore (and Lee Kuan Yew)? and 2) Was it really an expulsion? Or was it a negotiated separation?
I'll answer the 2nd question first.
Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) had in early 1965 suggested that Singapore be "hived off" from the Federation. His proposal was for Singapore to be a "confederated" state instead of a federated state. This would mean that Singapore would have more autonomy, and KL would only be concerned with Foreign Affairs and Defence of Singapore. All other matters would solely be governed by Singapore, with no interference from the Federal Govt. Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) was intrigued by the proposal and authorised Goh Keng Swee to work out the terms of "hiving off" Singapore from the Federation. Goh met with Tun Razak (Abdul Razak Hussein), Deputy Prime Minister to negotiate this arrangement. BUT he (says he) persuaded the Malaysians that the only real solution was for Singapore to secede completely. Goh also said that the Malaysians did not need much persuasion, being of the same opinion that "Singapore must get out". Perhaps, they had a hidden agenda?
Whatever hidden agenda the Malaysians might have had, we only have the narrative from Goh's "Albatross File" (sghistoryunauthorised.blogspot.com/2023/04/commentary-what-release-of-goh-keng.html). And the conclusion that separation was a negotiated process and by mutual consent.
From the above, the readiness of the Malaysian leaders to "expel" Singapore relates to the first question: Why? Were there hidden agenda and stratagems? No country willingly allows a part of their union to secede. Singapore was relatively richer than the other states and contributed more than its fair share to the federal budget (5:07). Why was KL so ready to lose their richest state?
Perhaps, because Singapore was seen as a non-viable state on her own? Without the backstop of Peninsula Malaysia, and her hinterland, Singapore was expected to fail economically, and then it would need to crawl back to KL and beg to be re-admitted and have no choice but to accept whatever terms KL would dictate. IOW, KL allowed Singapore to secede/separate because KL expected Singapore to fail and seek readmission later down the line.
Except, Singapore not only did not fail, but succeeded. Wildly.

You omitted the fact that 'Tanah Melayu' (Peninsular Malaya) achieved independence first. Subsequently, they invited Singapore, Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei to join them as an independent nation, as these territories were still under British colonialism at that time. Had they not joined, their independence might have been delayed, similar to Brunei, which gained independence in 1984.
Furthermore, if Tanah Melayu had accepted Singapore's political views, it would have undermined the original objective of Tanah Melayu's independence, which was to reject the concept of the Malayan Union

Malaysia had all the stars & planets aligned for its rise after the split in 1965. However, we’ve seen how Singapore had risen from the dumps from having practically NOTHING as compared to MALAYSIA which had EVERYTHING ! One can say that Malaysia & Singapore were born as twins but given the situation then in 1965 after the split, Malaysia should have advance much faster and higher than Singapore ! What happened ?
We all know that Singapore with its MERITOCRACY had continued rising till today whilst Malaysia with its AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ( otherwise aka Aparteid ) had continued to go the other way. Instead of Rm : S$ should be 3:1 we’re seeing S$ 1 : RM 3 now.
The Malaysian leaders , past & current, knew what had happened but chose to remain with its way of exploiting the ‘belief of Malays that their rights were protected from external threats by other races mainly the Chinese & Indians’ when in actual fact the leaders were just enriching themselves at the expense of the Malays. The non-Malays, with its reducing numbers, were NEVER relevant.
One can safely say that Malaysia will continue with its downfall as long as the Affirmative Actions ( which should have expired in the 90s per the original Federal Constitution enforced in 1957.

The British colonies of Singapore, Sarawak, and Sabah (called North Borneo) joined the Federation to form Malaysia on September 16, 1963.

I think Ketuanan Melayu made sense for the Malays. After all, they are indigenous to the region and are the majority. So it’s natural they want to retain their dominant position.

Singapore has large population of ethnic Chinese, it brought on a lot of anxiety within Umno dominated Malaya government which preaches 'racial supremacy' governance. Singaporean PM Mr.LKY's political idea of building an equitable and fair Malaysia federation contradicted to Umno goal on building a future ' Malay Malaysia', after 2 years of union, Malaysia parliament passed an unanimous vote to expel Singapore from the federation.

Not a malay supremacy, but during British colonialisations British was more biased towards indegenious malay. This hd lead to the disadvantage on malays which is the son of land as comparef to treatments given to the immigrant chinese. After independence more ficus were given to malays as a way to balance the economic inequalities. The results now hv shown Msia has sucessfully developed as what it is now. Some may say it as a descrimation towards other Msian, but in actual fact it isnt.😊

"Malaysia has successfully developed as what it is now". Yes, I fully agree with you. Malaysia has succeeded in making government policies that are racist, apartheid and harmful. The minority race are being discriminated. Malaysia also succeeded in producing corrupt, racist, incompetent and inefficient politicians in the government. On record Malaysia also succeeded in being the 2nd most racist country in the world! Malaysia also succeeded in creating an education system that leave much to be desired.

Both the Tungku and LKY were absolutely right under the extant circumstances to wisely part ways. Even today, the underlying issues that were responsible for separation have not been adequately addressed and far less resolved in either countries. Only brainless idiots in both coundries would dare dream of reintegration or reunification, both of which would be highly IRRESPONSIBLE projects not at all worth pursuing ! 😅 An excellent and highly objective presentation of the facts, kudos 🎉 ❤ !

First- This video is made by generative AI. So it is not a real work of intelligence. It rather sounds like the repetition of what already known facts and errors harvested from internet. So, don't rely so much on this video. And for this, I'm blocking this channel.
Second- The reason of Singapore's expulsion was this: ULTRA KIASU. This ideology may prosper a country by up to a century or so, but after that, it will collapse on its own. Don't take my word for that. Listen to what Elon Musk has to say. The similar ultra kiasu nations like China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan are seeing it already. I would bet it will take less than 2 decades (less than a generation) for Singaporean to start to see this.
