Fortunely, Southeast Asia appears vulnerable to Donald Trump's threat of universal tariffs. Malaysia one of the friendliest country toward foreigner investor so far.

Countries with Free Trade Agreement with the USA will not be affected. Only two countries in SEA have FTA with the USA - these are Vietnam and Singapore.
@@alma09876 Trump doesn't care abt FTA. Case in point USMC(formerly NAFTA). Both Canada and Mexico will be subjected to the 25% tariffs across the board from Day 1, or so Trump said. Without looking at other things, Malaysia would look fairly successful. However, if you consider the rich natural resources it has including petroleum, the administration and infrastructure left by the British, no civil war, no war of independence, no natural disasters... It is a total shame it is not even on the same level of South Korea and Taiwan. It is a country that didn't live up to its potential. Singapore had nothing yet achieved so much. Basically boils down to corruption and racial policies.

Indonesia's economy is not impacting Malaysia's economy at all. Indonesian economy solely based on internal consumption and not export and import. Mind you Indonesia's population is equivalent of the USA, but the economy only 1.3 trillion compared to the USA almost 20 trillion. Compared to Malaysia and Australia, where our size of population is almost equivalent, Malaysian GDP is 500 billion and Australian GDP is 1.5 trillion.
Well, it all depends on the time frame observed. Looking at the Maddison Project DB one sees that Malaysia's GDP per capita was 1.9 times that of Thailand in 1950. Now it's only 1.6 times higher (bevor the pandemic it was slightly less). So Thailand's economy grew faster on a per capita basis in the last 74 years. It's more informative to look at GDP per capita growth instead of GDP growth because Malaysia's population has been growing faster than Thailand's since at least the 1970s.
It is too early to say that Malaysia is a successful country, as much still needs to be rectified or improved, especially in terms of living standards between urban and rural areas, addressing corruption among civil servants, and low productivity particularly among rural residents.
Gdp Nominal is not the data to Compared that country is rich or poor.Gdp nominal have to ÷ with all population like a food, investment, etc.Meanwhile GDP per capita is the income of people and how much money goverment can gave.Meanwhile Malaysia have 400+Billion Gdp nominal compared Indonesian with 1 trillion. But the Malaysia still can challenge indonesia even they only had 34 million population compared to Indonesia with 100 Million population. The conclusion, the highly gdp percapita, the more benefits people will get
Malaysia, I believe, has fallen into the middle-income country tráp. As long as they don't address their debt, religión, and corruptión, it will be impossible for them to grow.
If you compare to countries in SEA region, we are doing well. Even inflation we controlled well, if you a lot europe/us/australia interested to get MM2H is because their country have crazy inflation. Overall, our life quality even B40 also generally better than europe/us mid-income peoples. But all good things are shaded by racial/religion issues, 1 tension shaded 3 good deeds, bad PR communication make it double again. I look thru so much foreigners perception, they liked our countries and have general positive reviews. The ghost is within us, our anger/hatred played by politicians so much, and has to stop with open and rational dialogues.
1st thing 1st, we have to get rid of religious fundamentalist bigots. And those who hate malaysia, we must push them out. Those who talks about inflation have zero knowledge on economy and zero experience living overseas. I have been travelling these past 3 years after covid. I don't like to compare Malaysia with other countries. I just want to highlight so many things spread outside before, mostly by political reasons. They dare to create so many fake issues just to tarnish image of other political party. In fact, the things are almost the same when they run the government. But nowadays nobody creates hoax issues anymore and everything looks great. In fact all the attractions and policies have already succeeded in more than 20-30 years ago. Not 2-3 years recently.😏

@TingTong-mh6ns Get your facts straight! Victor Purcell’s 1956 book was written when Malaysia didn’t exist, as it was only the Federation of Malaya under British rule. The Federation gained independence in 1957, and Malaysia was created in 1963. Modern Malaysia was built by ALL communities, not just the British and Chinese. Stop misrepresenting history and spreading lies! 😡
Malaysia always been a great strategic country. It used to and still is a host to the busiest strait(Malacca strait) in the world. The reason it's not a first world is because it's a relatively new country that just free themselves from european colony.
This is thanks to the past government's well planned economic policies, vigilant expenditures and investments. No economy is perfect but Malaysia have always remain strong and performing well despite the corruption scandals, economic crises, pandemic etc.
The disparity between West and East Malaysia remains significant. Despite the fact that the East Malaysian states (Sabah and Sarawak) contribute substantially to the nation’s wealth (via commodities such as petroleum and palm oil), the gap persists. This economic injustice is one of the biggest ironies in Malaysia. Successful economies should, first and foremost, be defined by the equitable distribution of wealth. For the time being, Malaysia still lacks of this quality.
I love Malaysia and KL. Honestly though, should be waaaaaayyy more succesful than it is. Corruption, infighting, poor educational planning and mild apartheid brings the place down
I love how he mentioned the Graph without showing it when he mentioned GDP and PPP per capita with Singapore and Brunei, so we are always second and never first, so sad.
From Wikipedia: in 2024, Malaysia's GDP(nominal) is $13,142, vs $12,969 China, $7,527 Thailand, and for reference, $17,069 Bulgaria (low end of EU). In contrast, after adjusting for purchasing power, Malaysia's GDP (PPP) in 2024 is $41,022, vs $26,310 China, $25,212 Thailand, and $39,185 Bulgaria.
Do you know what's the poverty level today in msia? GDP doesn't mean anything. It's heavily relying on foreign investmnt that comes and go. Msia doesn't hv high tech industries of their own. Everything relies on import even processed water from Sgp.
The higher the PPP is compared to the country's nominal GDP per capita, the lower the value of the country's currency, so it means that the imported goods are bought at a high price, and the people's basic living expenses are high, so the savings are low. It's not good. The smaller the gap between GDP and PPP per capita, the more stable developed and powerful it is. What does it do compared to Japan, which has no economic growth in the past 30 years? Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines have had full potential for the past 70 years and will become developed countries in the future, but they are still countries with only full potential. The economic growth of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines over the past 70 years is exactly in line with the global inflation graph. In other words, it is safe to say that these countries have virtually little development, and they have been trapped in the "Middle income trap" for the past 30 years.
These countries are relatively new after freeing themselves from their western colonizers. After independence post WW2, problems left by their colonizers had to solve first by the new governments - these are tackling land reforms which is a major caused of rebellion among local people like in the case of Philippines.
No Malaysia only success in Klang valey but other city especially Sabah state hard to get job and poor development. Unbalanced development only focusing on big city.

Fortunely, Southeast Asia appears vulnerable to Donald Trump's threat of universal tariffs. It was good for some Asian nations when China was the main target.Meanwhile China says, neither the United States nor China would win a trade war. Malaysia one of the friendliest country toward foreigner investor so far.
Vulnerable Your Ass 😂😂😂😂😂😂
tariff is a tax imposed by one country on the goods and services imported from another country to influence it, raise revenues, or protect competitive advantages.
Our Bigger Import Partner Is China Not America, Actually American Consumer More Vulnerable Intel,And Nvidia American Imports Chip From Intel,Nvidia Malaysia But Have To Pay 30% Tariff 😂😂😂
Countries with Free Trade Agreement with the USA will not be affected. Only two countries in SEA have FTA with the USA - these are Vietnam and Singapore.
....... and sanctions.
Why fortunately...?
@@alma09876 Trump doesn't care abt FTA. Case in point USMC(formerly NAFTA). Both Canada and Mexico will be subjected to the 25% tariffs across the board from Day 1, or so Trump said.
In Vietnam case, they do get restrictions on high tech exports to the US. Plus their trade surplus of more than $110 billion puts them on Trump tariff radar.
While I agree about Malaysia, Singapore is located in one of the most strategic places ever existed. They do take advantage of it.

Indonesia's economy is not impacting Malaysia's economy at all. Indonesian economy solely based on internal consumption and not export and import. Mind you Indonesia's population is equivalent of the USA, but the economy only 1.3 trillion compared to the USA almost 20 trillion.

GDP is based on the current exchange rate (USD). Compare with PPP for a real comparison.

Overall, our life quality even B40 also generally better than europe/us mid-income peoples.

The reason it's not a first world is because it's a relatively new country that just free themselves from european colony.
Being a high income nation by 2025 as defined by the World Bank, is the next big challege to MAS. While signs look positive, only time will tell.
