Hey Laci - thanks for your reply - your advice could not have been more useful. I laid everything out and checked the line lengths, sure enough the back lines were too long/stretched. I didn't realise there was adjustment inside the. floats until I saw your video - so I made adjustment there and it made all the difference!! I re-launched the kite and straight away there was a huge difference! With the kite at twelve when I pulled-in on the bar there was steady power, as there should be. I then went out and had a great session on my 9 & 7m Slash CF kites! It was a very windy day. It's windy again here in the UK (Boxing Day) so I'm off out again! Yippee - CrazyFly rocks!
Hello from the Republic of Ireland Laci! I just found your video and I have been at the beach today and I kite would not launch. As you mentioned and (I had no clue that the lines stretch) I need to ensure the lines are the same length. You have sorted my problem ! Thank you!!!!
nice I'm am glad I could help. In fact what I found out later, what happens is that lines does not stretch, but steering lines gets shorter! This is because there is not much load on them so sand and dust particles gets inside the lines over time, making it thicker and a bit shorter... have a good sesh!
So every kite should always have even length lines? I am trying to get into the sport and have been given and bought a few kites and bits which i'm trying to match. I will check to see if lines are equal on my bar now as I think my steering lines are too long. Learning as I go but didn't want to buy new to start. Couple of lessons and loving it.
yes that is correct. But make sure the kite is fully powered on the trimmer when you are checking. Best luck :) If you want, currently I am working in Sicily www.prokitealbyrondina.com check it out
It's actually the steering lines that shrink cause they are not working under tension. All the lines are factory pre tensioned so they will not extend any more.
Maybe this is a stupid question but i need someone to answer it for me anyway so i feel more comfortable: Can i use the bar from one brand on on the kite of another brand without worry? As long as the knots/loops are arranged the same way, i think there shouldn't be a problem. As the powerline/steeringline lengths seem to be equal on all bars. Right? I don't want to find out i'm wrong at 29kts on-shore XD
no worries ask ahead :) Well usually no problem but it depends. Obviously you need to fit 4 line bar on a 4 line kite so if you have the same then there is no problem to use other bars. All bars have the same line length. The only issue is that some brands have opposite pigtails on front / back lines. Eg on one brand you will find loop on front lines and knot on back lines, on other brands opposite. Usually you have this with big brands in orter to make you buy their bar instead of using competitors :) But you can still manage, you can make loop from knots and fit it, but best to check with somebody with experience prior to using.
Hi are you sure the line at right hooked ( 1:56 min at the video ) use the pigtails from the steering line but don't on power line I presume not loop at the power line, maybe you shouldn't use pigtails at all for trimming... Some brand use them for trimming some dont but what abouth crazyfly usually you can fine answer in manual but not this time...
yes I know it was for demonstration only and was not fixed at equal points, good eye :) with this bar i actually fix at different point (about 5cm from end) but i did not want it to look confusing
Hi Laci - thats a really useful video. I recently brought a second hand 7m CF Slash and took it out on Saturday in some pretty strong winds (others were 5 & 6m's) but really struggled to get going and get any power out of the kite. I have other CF kites which are new and brilliant but there's definitely something up with the 7m Slash - your video has given me several ideas; 1) Check for equal line-legth and try and stretch if possible, 2) Check and adjust the lines from inside the floaters (didn't even know that existed). many thanks! PS - do you work with Juraj and Boris @ CrazyFly
+Tasty115 Hi! Im glad I gave you some useful tips! Sure, there can be many things wrong, especially when buying second hand gear you have to check everything out. Did you managed to fix it already? The equal lenght is normally a main issue. Try to ge tit equal and test the kite. You can see if it works correctly, wehn you have kite at 12, pull the bar to maximum and kite should keep pulling, not falling down. Easiest is to depower on the trimmer like I said... And yea I am in contact with guys from CF :) I test the new equimpemnt for them and already 2016 gear have some major improvements so Im pretty stoked about the future!
+Laci Kobulsky Hello, so you're saying that my kite should not backstall when it is at 12 and i pull the bar completely towards myself? Im going to try that out, feeling some slow response time on my ozone edge 9m lately. What can i do when it does backstall? Pull the cord of the depower trimmer a little bit?
Ahoj Laci, ak si SK, kam chodíš kitesurfovať. Na staré kolená som sa zamiloval do tohoto športu, tak hľadám každú informáciu. Ako o mne povedali Too Old, Too fat , Too crazy :D Super, video, ďakujem :)
THIS CRAZYFLY SICK BAR is such a poor design it's a hazard - almost killed me. 1) the depower (red) line gets wrapped around the core line inside the tube and stops moving, basically activating a SUICIDE MODE - could kill you! 2) Upon the release of the chicken loop, the pin inside gets stuck, better grow long nails to able to reach inside and push it down, otherwise it's impossible to lock it. 3) the swivel black piece above the chicken loop barely swivels, it's made round - becomes slippery in the water as your hands prune 4) CONSTANT PAIN: the tube only goes 1/2" inside the swivel and the depower cleat ... and it pops out from the cleat at every jump as the core line stretches holding your weight. Then this rubber tube wrinkles itself around the core line preventing the bar and the inside depower line from sliding smoothly .. For these reasons I had to stop using this bar till I get some line and modify it - get rid of the tube. Fortunately I do have long nails and able to close the chicken loop again .. but it needs to be replaced.

How can you dry the lines after washing … do you need to unrap them ?!

What if we are at the maximum length possible on the steering lines? Is there a way to reduce the length of the front lines?
yes you can make a knot on the end of the front lines, or add short extension to back lines
Thanks for the Videos for Beginners, I will get A crazy Fly Kite package
Welcome :)
