I am glad you enjoyed the walk around Bar Harbor. It will look a bit different this afternoon since pretty much all the snow will be gone. Thanks for the comment.
We had about 6 inches of snow the other day, our first real accumulation of the season, tonight it's almost 50 degrees, go figure. Thanks for taking us along with you today, it's always a pleasure to tag along.
The cold and snow has kept most of the folks inside. On Monday and Tuesday our temps will be in the teens and maybe some ice but later in the week it will be in the 50s. Thanks Todd, stay safe and well
Actually by Maine winter standard it was pretty warm and an inch or two of snow doesn't count as snowy. Most of the people were at work/school. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you for the video Todd! I appreciate you taking time to walk through the town to see if anything was open in the winter there. Not much is open as expected. But I still love seeing Bar Harbor anytime.
You are welcome. Very few businesses stay pen when the tourists are gone. There are two reasons. First, there are not enough people to support the businesses and second there is no one to hire to work in the businesses during the off season.
It looks like our winter (Adirondacks) currently. A “light” covering. I love the peace these winter roads bring me. If the wife and I didn’t have to work throughout the winter, I would definitely consider staying there in the winter.
Also, it was so wild being there on Sunday with just my husband and i and about 10 others. I've only ever been to BH at the peak season so it felt like an outer body experience being able to walk, drive, park and have it all to myself.
It is a very different place in Winter. Did you go into the park? I walked the Ship Harbor trail twice last week and encountered two people total. It was great.
@todddunn945 no, I tried, but it was closed...or the Park Loop road was....I know there are ways around that, tho. I'm still such a newbie and don't know other ways in. I walked along the pier and a bit downtown. It was almost like I had the whole place to myself, which is just the craziest feeling.
@@nikkivenable73 I haven't walked Wonderland since just before Christmas. It is a nice walk although is can be kind of slippery if it is now covered. It is a nice trail to get out to the ocean.
Hi Todd. I was in BH on Sunday hoping to see some sights. It was snowing but it was so beautiful. I think you or another local said that Sand Beach and Jordan Pond are still accessible without a pass but the Loop Road was closed off completely. Is Acadia closed for the winter, then?
The full Park Loop road is closed, but you can drive to Sand Beach and Thunder Hole. You do need a park pass though. They may have closed it for the day due to the snow. To get there in winter head south on Main St. out of Bar Harbor and turn onto Schooner Head Road. Drive to where the road comes to a "T" and turn right. The entrance station is about 100 yards after your turn. To get to Jordon Pond, drive to Seal Harbor and turn onto Jordon Pond Road, just north of "downtown". It is a left turn as you head north from downtown. That road takes you to Jordon Pond. It doesn't go through in the summer. They keep the parking area at Jordon Pond House open and the parking just past Jordon Pond house is open too, When it finally gets cold for a while, the pond freezes and you can walk or ski on it. You can also walk or ski on the carriage roads. The Eagle Lake entrance and the Parkman Mountain entrances (on the way to Northeast Harbor) are open (with open, but cold, rest rooms).
cannot imagine plenty of parking onthe dock area. we have about 8 inches in lehigh valley, pa, wind gusts tonight up to 50 mph. ;you seem to be walking very nicely.
There is a subtle difference in parking availability in winter versus summer. Plus there is no charge to park anywhere in the winter. The town even remove the parking meters. We have had a total of only about 6" of snow so far this year. We are expecting a lot of rain tonight and tomorrow so I expect us to be snow free again. The knee i working pretty well.
We had one spot where the surf washed out one of the two roads to town. It is quite a site. Locally damage was restricted to the immediate shore. No one lives there since it is mostly Acadia National Park. There are lots of trees down and rocks washed up on the shore. We are fine and didn't even lose power.
Bar Harbor is quiet in winter. Try to visualize it with 100,000 people there as often happens in July and August. For the last few years, Bar Harbor has seen about 4 million tourists annually, mostly from mid June through mid September. So yes, I would say it is a tourist town.
I always enjoy walking around Bar Harbor with you, Todd!! Thanks! 🌊🌲💙🌲🌊

It is supposed to hit 48 tomorrow with 1-2" of rain so I expect us to be snow free again. Glad you liked the video.

You are moving quite well. Congrats!

@@todddunn945 same here! In 6 months.
Next time, would love to see cottage street! As much as I don’t want to have new construction in town. I would like to see what it’s looking like 😅
Sure. I will film Cottage the next time I am over there. That will likely be in late January.

Hi Dunn family!! How are you guys doing with all the flooding going on? I’ve been watching live UA-cam cams from Texas and it doesn’t look good

Terrible about the roads, but good to hear you didn’t lose power!
@@carissa.mccomas thanks. They have already started fixing the roads. They will be passable in a week or less.
did they finish the building on cottage st near the grocery store yet?
No they are finishing the exterior now. I imagine there is still a lot to do inside. I think they are pushing to finish by this summer.
that is a long time coming. thanks@@todddunn945
We always have to be worried about slipping and falling, us TKR survivors😊
Yes, I am doing pretty well, but there is no point in taking chances.
Yes we can never be too careful :)@@todddunn945

Wow that is a lot of people. Good for the economy there though. I imagine there are alot of good fish to be eaten. Your lucky there.@@todddunn945
