I am heading up to Portland & then Bar Harbor starting tomorrow. This has to be one of the nicest most soothing travel videos I have seen. Such lovely people. Thank you.
Just drove to bar harbor from Long Island, NY. Hiked a few days in Acadia then stopped in Portland and Boston on the way home for a few days each. Actually got home yesterday. Very fun trip!
Great video. I’m from Texas and I just did a solo road trip of the north east last week. I flew to New York, rented a car and drove up. Spent a day each in Plymouth, Boston, Portland and stopped at many small towns along the way. My original plan was to make to bar harbor and hike up the Cadillac mountain. But the weather got bad as I was driving further north. So I stopped at Camden, had some lobster rolls and made it my last stop. I’m coming back when the weather is better next time. All in all, one of the best road trips I ever did.
next time...go to Bar harbor...a little pricey but absolutly beautiful..aspecially Acadia Park. When I went I was very pleasantly surprised as a first time visitor
Just left Maine this past Saturday and I was blown away how beautiful all of Maine is. Got to drive down the coastline from Acadia to Portland and hit these very same amazing little towns. I noticed they visited Route 66 in Bar Harbor and I cannot express how much I enjoyed eating there. Highly recommend it!
Route 1 is the coastal route from Florida to Maine. A key note to visiting my state is to visit coastal towns and beaches during the middle of the week. Less traffic and easier to find parking. Also if you are going to my favorite town Boothbay, park by the fire station, sure you pay but it's the cheapest(after a certain time it's free) and they give you a cool map.
been from the southern border to Camden, came in through new hampsire to Bangor on a another trip, both in month of Sept. leaves were just beginning to turn, tourists had all gone home, Stayed with friends who are lobster traders, enjoyed it very much, nice country up there
I normally don’t comment on UA-cam videos - but this video was great! We are flying to Boston tomorrow night to do our road trip to Acadia National Park. Great footage and tips! Thank you!!
This seems to be a such a charming place I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
Thank you for making this video. Your voice is very relaxing and I enjoy the knowledge you gave about Maine as a state. I currently live somewhere that I am not happy and I love videos like this. I can escape and dream of a future where I can live happily in a new place. I’ll be watching more videos from you! 💜
My Mom grew up in York, Maine!! The State of Maine is so Beautiful and I have spent many late summers and early Falls in Maine. I love all the small towns along coastal route 1 just Amazing places.
Great video. I had great times stationed in Brunswick. Myself and a couple of other guys lived off base in a house right on US1 in Bath. This was back in the early 1970s.
Portland to Bar Harbor was my stomping grounds in my thirties my father was born in Bar Harbor I was born in Portland I now live in San Diego great seeing your video
Great video! From Mississippi, have been to Maine twice; once in summer, once in the Fall. Absolutely gorgeous state! Traveled from Boothbay Harbor to Bar Harbor. LOVE the NE!
I saw your post and wondered What all you did and Boothbay and along the way up to Bar Harbor. We are spending three days in each location. We have thought about doing a well boat excursion in either place, but I am concerned about the weather and possible seasickness on the boat. Did you do any boat tours, and if so which area did you do them? Any ideas would be appreciated if you have the time. Thank you
Hey Melissa, at the advice of a friend who went to Boothbay Harbor every year for 19 years until her husband passed away, we stayed at BB Harbor every night and took day trips every day from there. In retrospect, I would rather have done what you’re doing. The places we went were as follows: Bath, ME, Maritime Museum, LL Bean headquarters at Freeport, ME, Wiscasset, ME, Reds Eats, a famous small place with DELICIOUS lobster rolls(has been featured on the Food Network, UA-cam it), Acadia National Park was gorgeous, has become very crowded, we LOVED Camden, go to Mount Batte, beautiful view of Camden Harbor, Darmariscotti, ME, and Pemaquid Point for a stunning view of the Atlantic and a famous lighthouse, Rockland, ME to the Maine Lighthouse Museum. Wonderful trip. This was about 10 years ago, so things may have changed. Right before covid, we toured New England in the Fall, briefly going into Maine, but focusing on MA, VT, and NH. Hope this helps. Safe travels, and enjoy!
Also, we didn’t do any boating. If you are concerned about motion sickness, you may want to consider getting a scopolamine patch that goes behind your ear. I think it is prescription med. Be aware that if you touch it, and rub your eye, it can dilate your pupil and cause blurry vision. No danger to you, just a word of advice
@@mikewest9017 funny that you mentioned the patch dilating your eyes. 20 years ago we went in a cruise for our 5 anniversary and I had a patch behind my ear. One day I changed it and when we went to dinner I couldn’t read the menu. My eyes were dilated. I must have touched my eyes. I just thought it was the new patch. Thank you for the travel tips!
You’re welcome. Yes a side effect of that med is mild blurry vision, much worse if you touch your eye after touching the patch. Something to be aware of if driving while using the patch
Good video. I was in Maine last summer for 3 days doing house hunting. Traveled on that bridge with the tall tower. Need to go back and spend major time seeing things. Beautiful state. So much to see, so many places to eat at. /Jealous.
I am going on a Maine coastal road trip this summer. So, these videos are sooo informative. I chose Kennebunk, cape Elizabeth, and Trenton/ Acadia Park as our destinations for staying. Going as far as Bar harbor before back home. 9 days . I seeking more ideas and tips. I know I cant chose live on a boat lobster for dinner and take it to a restaurant in Portland to cook, in that time my hubby will make it a pet and name him " claws" . seriously.
What a lovely video❤ I live in Rockland and it's special to me... 6:20 but so to are all the towns in Maine...coastal or inland. This state is breathtaking year round but for obvious reasons not so well traveled in Winter months.
usually referred to going "down the coast of Maine". This way of speaking is left over from the days of sailing vessels. Maine is more east of Boston than north of Boston. The winds are prevailing Westerlies. (west to east). So boats sail "down wind" to Maine. Hence, down the coast of Maine.
Love your video! At the 5:00 mark, you're at a parking lot then walk down a trail. Would you please tell me where this is in Acadia? And did that trail lead you to the ocean? Thanks! We're going next month and would love to visit that spot.
Thank you! I believe this was at Schooner Head Overlook - it's not a hiking trail, but a path to the cliffs shown in the video. There's a parking lot at the overlook so you can stop on your way around the park. For actual hiking trails, there are a number with ocean views, I just don't know the names off the top of my head.
I've been watching video after video about Maine because I want to move there. Everybody tells me I'm nuts because of how cold it gets, and because of all the snow. But I live in Missouri now, it gets really cold here and we get enough snow. I don't go out much in the winter so it wouldn't bother me. I actually think I would go out more and winter if I lived in Maine. It's just so beautiful! I just wish I could find something in my price range! Thank you for such a lovely video! Liked and subscribed!
Thank you! I could see myself living there too. I did a bit of research after my trip, and there were quite a few historic fixer-upper houses in the smaller towns of Maine... maybe one day!
I live in Maine so I can tell you we definitely do get a lot of snow and it is always pretty cold, especially at night. The closer you get to the coast the less snow there is generally, but also the more expensive it is to live there. Hope you can find a place someday!
I loved your video. All the shots were beautiful. I have two questions if you don't mind. What program did you use to edit your footage and how did you get it all to look the same. Was it a filter? I love how it doesn't have all that contrast.
Thank you! All of my videos so far have been edited in iMovie since I'm holding off on investing in FinalCutPro (or something along those lines) until I have a computer that can handle it. iMovie has simple saturation/contrast/filter sliders I use to edit the footage - one setting can be applied to many clips at once. iMovie does severely lack in animation/transition/title capabilities, so I hope to learn a more professional editor within the next year.
It seemed to be at peak colors the last week of September/first week of October in 2020, so this trip was perfectly timed! The first week of October was the most popular time for people visiting Acadia.
I went up to Maine last weekend to work a FIRST Robotics off season event outside of Portland. I did n to see many people of color there. I went to Old Orchid Bay in search of a Lobster Roll for dinner after the event and saw swarms of tourist there. There were some people of color there. Maine is something like 95 percent Caucasian. You should still go. They were very nice people all the same.
@@KokoEd ok, i know they are nice people but i am more interested in moving. So, I'd love to go in a safe/quiet place which I found in Bar Harbor, Maine but i wonder how welcoming are the people of mine to outsiders...
I'm a local and you skipped right through all the good places to visit on your trip and just went to the tourist stuff you didn't show any of the good parts of route one we are way more than just Acadia and Portland
Yeah - with it being my first time and only having a few days, I wanted to hit the most popular things first. Suggestions for future trips are welcome!

I was born in Bar Harbor and raised in Camden. Been living in Florida for 35 years and I sure miss the climate of Maine.

That's awesome! I definitely want to go back. I think early fall was the perfect time for me - cooler temps, changing leaves, and fewer tourists.
