- STREETS OF LONDON: A song written by Ralph McTell. It was first recorded for McTell's 1969 album Spiral Staircase but was not released in the United Kingdom as a single until 1974. It was his greatest commercial success, reaching number two in the UK singles chart, at one point selling 90,000 copies a day.
The song was inspired by McTell's experiences busking and hitchhiking throughout Europe, especially in London and Paris; although the individual stories are taken from Parisians, London is chosen for its arguably more sonorous name. The song contrasts the common problems of everyday people with those of the homeless, lonely, elderly, ignored, and forgotten members of society.
BANKSY: The pseudonym of a British graffiti artist, political activist and painter, whose identity is unconfirmed. His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine irreverent dark humour with graffiti done in a distinctive stencilling technique. Such artistic works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world.

This song became the butt of jokes and I remember the comedien, Richard Digence threatening to sing it if his audience didn't behave. Even Ralph McTell is reported to have hated his audience asking him to sing it when he had moved on.
I am so pleased that, in your beautiful style, Julia. It has been resurrected and brought up to date with Mikee's great collection of Banksy images. Thank you for breathing new life into a forgotten gem.

Really great combo. Banksy was once cutting edge, but as usual money and 'fame' came in... He is a great communicator never-the-less. Up there with Scarfe and William Rushton (Check his art out !!!). I think this works perfectly !! the song goes so well with the pics.
