    When I got mine with my Super Adventurer I had to check twice to make sure it had the KTM logo on it and not an IKEA one.

    Bought this bag second hand, so no problems with the drillbit etc. Had no manual, but the bag is like new, great video for installing. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Patrick. Glad you got to just enjoy the bad instead of dealing with the headache of having to "install" it.

    I bought the newer version that you don’t have to drill, but it didn’t have any instructions, so I just ‘winged it’ and got it installed. I’m not impressed with the side zip pouches; there isn’t enough space to put anything larger that a thin wallet, checkbook or smart phone, but I don’t plan on using them much anyway. I mainly want the bag for a spare jacket, sweater, and water.

      I use the side pockets for GoPro batteries and that's about it.

    I could be wrong and probably am but could it be that the wood block while drilling was supposed to go on the inside of the bag to support the fabric and possibly help to keep the fabric that got caught in the drill bit away from the drill bit. It looked like the bag was way to tall for the bit to ever go through the other end of the bag

    Hmmmm, think I’ll stick with my Givi!
    PS Maybe put a bradawl through to line the holes for the plate first before drilling?
    Then make sure the lining is clear of the hole to stop it tearing?

    I think this bag is made by SW Motech. I had one on my BMW, and it has the exact same ultra-lame installation where you have to drill the holes in the bag. What were they thinking?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  7 років тому

      That's likely the case that it's just rebranded. Still crazy to require drilling for a tank bag.

      2 Wheeled Rider exactly that’s why I chose the version with the bands
      Easy mounting,
      Not so fast mounting as this in the video, but I haven’t these rubbish on my tank

    This doesn't have anything else to do with the video but I own a 17 1290 super adventure R, does anyone else have a weird front brake pulsation when coming to a stop that rattles the bars and feels like something is shaking up front?????? Dealer has no idea and my 1190 r never did anything like that.

  • @rickrider47

    The bag is outstanding for sure. The install is a huge hassle and it really gives KTM (which i basically like a lot) a black eye on putting this out in such a fashion. Depending on what your time is worth, the extra time to drill these r hoes and set the screws will add quite a few $$$ to the cost. PLUS I don't know if you can do it without screwing up the interior of the bag. Very dicey and i was prepared for it after watching the video. I was sure I could do without screwing it up. WRONG! I also just tore out the cover pieces and replaced with a softer material. The bag is sturdy, a perfect fit and appears to be just what i expected. The install is BS..

  • @leecabell3375

    So how did you like the KTM tank bag? Thinking of getting one, but the thing looks huge! Does in stick up too high or interfere with your view or riding? How about when standing up?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  6 років тому

      Once I got it on the bike I've really liked it. Doesn't interfere with my view or controls while riding. If you're wearing a 3/4 length jacket, like I do, you may catch it on the bag when you go to sit back down.

    I have a 2018 1290 SAR I heard horror stories about the computer controlled fuel cap. So I ordered a non lockable race cap. Do I need to take off the tank covers to swap out the fuel cap?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 років тому

      I’m guessing the unit you got is s threaded 2 piece and if that’s the case, yes, I think you’ll have to pop off the tank cover in order to replace it. Tough to say for sure as it will depend on the design.

    Looks like a re-branded sw-motech bag. Those have you drill as well... but they have you drill so you can customize where the plate is depending on the shape of your tank. Yours looked like it mounted in only 1 place... makes no sense.

    Based on this video and the reviews on Amazon I just purchased this for my incoming Super Adventure S. Question: to minimize the risk of damaging the piece of fabric with the drill bit do you think punching those holes with a nail first, then using the drill to widen the holes, would minimize the risk of snagging?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  6 років тому

      Possibly. The problem is the drill can grab the fabric as the bit is spinning.

    • @davidrosenblum2178
      @davidrosenblum2178 6 років тому

      So...what I did was tape the flaps of material to the inside of the bag with duct tape before I set to with the drill. It worked; no snags! I agree with you; there's no reason this shouldn't have come already installed and the instructions were rubbish!

    • @2WR
      @2WR  6 років тому

      Glad you got it put together without any issue!

    • @GrtSatan
      @GrtSatan 5 років тому

      The drilling process on mine went perfectly with nice round holes in the fabric and no snagging whatsoever. I couldn't find an appropriate piece of would to use for a backstop so I used a plastic flower pot instead, with a flawless result. Was somewhat taken aback by the fact that the holes in the template are smaller than the included drill bit, requiring them to be drilled out. Still no excuse for the consumer to have to go through this absurd process in order to mount a factory accessory

  • @GrtSatan
    @GrtSatan 5 років тому

    I got the dealer to throw in a KTM tank bag for free as consolation for having to wait so long for my 790 Duke, and I agree about the bullshit installation process. There is absolutely no reason for the bags not to be pre-drilled at the factory. Also, the bag is hideous. It sits on the same plane as the filler cap with plenty of air under both ends, rather than conforming to the shape of the tank like every other tank bag in the world. And it's tiny as well. If you pack the carrying strap and rain cover there's no room for anything else.
