    It didn’t work for me. The heat in there disintegrates the filter (especially so when you live in a warm climate). After a few months the filter started to crumble away. Moreover the noise was unbearable. On top of that, in order to get your AFR properly adjusted you’ll need a power commander and auto tune otherwise it’ll run like crap (most likely leaner because of the increased airflow). I also had dual Acrapovics on. That’s from a 990 Adventure R.

    Major improvement on performance with the stage 3. I will say that there is considerable increase in cylinder noise coming from a non enclosed air box, as well as concern if you dump it in a river I wonder if vapor lock is more likely?

    • @smoke05s
      @smoke05s 5 років тому +2

      It is not possible to vapor lock (a gas bubble in the fuel line that stops fuel flow) in a fuel injected bike. The fuel pump just powers through and pushes out the gas. Hydrolock (non compressible water or gasoline in the cylinder stopping the compression stroke) is probably what you meant. That would depend on how the bike lands in the water. Stock if the snorkels are submerged it seems like they could behave like a straw. Hard to tell for sure with the drain and vent tubes. The water would need to make it to the stacks to get you in trouble with the rottweiler. Maybe adapt one of those waverunner kill switches?

    Not sure if it has been brought up, but do you have to re map the bike with any aftermarket air/fuel/exhaust ecu?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 років тому

      I've gone into it in other videos but no, it doesn't require a remap for the Stage 3 kit as long as you stay with the stock exhaust. If you go aftermarket exhaust, you'll likely need the KTM remap or can go with a Power Commander.

    Why wouldn’t KTM inverse the tank/air box placement so the box is on top, or in front or behind the gas cap so it can be accessed from the top ? It can’t be an impossible design task.

  • @noahdavis5622

    No wonder ktm's services are so steep at the dealer!😳 gotta pull half the bike apart to change a filter...honestly surprised that ktm approached it this way considering the go anywhere marketing of the bikes, thats certainly not a roadside or parking lot friendly service if something mucks up your filter during a trip

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 років тому +2

      If you saw my Alaska trip, you'll see I did in fact pull the tank to do a few things to the bike in a parking lot while I was in Deadwood, SD. Took about 30 minutes. The first time I had to pull the tank took me about an hour but once you've done it a few times it's about 15 minutes to disassemble and another 15 to put it back together.

      It makes the lower rpm's richer. The dongles cancel the need for the O2 sensors. Tricks the ECU into thinking they are gone. automatically richens below 5k rpm. Stock settings above 5k are the same.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  6 років тому +1

      The 1190 dynos at 10.3hp more than stock. The addition of the second velocity stack is supposed to add 2hp throughout the rpm range with about 5 more near redline. Assuming similar performance gains on the 1290, figure an additional 12-17 hp at the rear wheel.

    Hi what is the purpose of completely removing the snorkels. Is there no need for air to be channeled to the new filter?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  4 роки тому +2

      The snorkels would restrict airflow with this setup. With the stock, closed air box, setup u needed the snorkels to channel air into the small openings. The Rottweiler setup allows air to enter from 360° so no need to channel it.

    • @2WR

      So it's a little tricky. It's held in by a mix of o-ring, plastic snap and the little metal piece. Doesn't hurt to use a new o-ring and I suggest a little bit of Hondabond around the o-ring for an extra layer of sealant.

    I put on the earlier version, as you might recall. I just wanted to ask if you refitted the two air intakes that run forward from the air filter? My version came with an alloy plate fitted to the front of the Rottweiler system, into which were fitted the two OEM rubber grommets through which the air intake tubes pass (one on the left, one on the right). Do you not use that alloy plate and air intake tubes, does the air just run through the tank/fairing and enter the foam filter? I as because if it’s possible to run without the two intake tubes, I’ll remove them as they’re a bit fiddly to fit

    • @ronanrogers4127
      @ronanrogers4127 6 років тому

      ...I should have downloaded the instructions first from their website. I now see it doesn’t have the alloy plate to hold the intake snorkels like my version has, so I’ll remove it and the snorkels, they were a pain to fit. I’m putting it back on the bike as I’ll need much better filtration in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia when I go there in a few months...Russia should be ok, but the other countries have incredibly dusty roads...can’t wait!!

    After my install, noticed that my fuel consumption went up signaling from 6-7L/100km to 9.5L/100km. Tts jz normal street riding to and fro work with traffic lights. Wonder if it had any impact on yours?
    Also, my idle rpm now hovers arnd 1250-1500rpm vs before install at abot 2000rpm. How was yours?
    Lastly, my bike now feels like a thumper bike instead of a v twin bike cos of the low rpm and when accelerating it doesnt feel as smooth as what I expected as per reports/reviews online. Again, how was it for yours?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 років тому

      1) Fuel consumption most likely went up because you've been cracking into the throttle more. Test it over a period of time and see what happens. Mine stayed about the same.
      2) My idles isn't that high. Sounds like you're getting some extra air. May want to check the o-rings on the airbox and ensure you have enough grease on them.
      3) Mine is much smoother than it was before; not the opposite. Once again, check to made sure you don't have an air leak.

As for the plastic plate you have 2 options 1) throw it in a drawer (that's what I did) 2) zip it to the frame in front of the airbox as a blocking plate should you think you're going to be riding in really muddy conditions. I didn't really see a need for it.

      Thanks for getting back to me Mario. I figured I would close this off in case others had the same questions. The small hose on the left is a drain hose that can be discarded, The larger diameter hose on the right connects to the SAS - if keeping the SAS and want it to work one would need a small air filter on the free hose end or just plug it off to disable the SAS. Myself I'll be removing the SAS completely just as you have. Thanks again - you are gold. I'm getting the bike all tuned up over the winter in preparation for a decent trip down to Cabo from BC and parts in-between in May.....should be about 8,500 Kms over 3 weeks. @@2WR

      I am trying to get my stage 3 hooked up and maintain the SAS. If the drain line towards the front on the left side is removed and a small filter is used on the end of the hose on the right. I am not sure what line is attached to the rear left of the box. Can you help me ID where my wires are crossed? Thanks

      @@Blain189 the hose in the rear is the vent hose from the rear cylinder just like the stock setup. Hook it up to the Rottweiler box.

    So did you notice any mpg change? Is it better or worst?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  6 років тому

      Recently it's been getting 0.0mpg since it's been sitting in the garage. I'll be tracking it on my next trip in a little over 2 weeks to see if there's any change.

    anybody have the idea of putting some light fans on top of the velocity stacks to create a vortex of air going into the engine?

      This setup has been specifically designed for these bikes and dyno-tested. You'll only hurt the performance with what you suggested.

      @2 Wheeled Rider doubt it. Unless you've tried it? Got data? Didn't think so. 🤔 I'm curious.

    I know this question is mainly a personal preference but How much intake noise did this add over stock air box in your opinion and has it bothered you?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 років тому

      At cruising RPMs and at idle there is no noticeable difference. They only time you'll notice the added noise is when you really crack into the throttle.

    So... how often do you need to oil the filters now?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  3 роки тому +1

      Can’t really give you a good estimate. It all comes down to riding conditions. Obviously you don’t want to go too long in between as the oil won’t be as effective trapping dirt.

      @@2WR I changed mine after a year. Should be able to do 2 years now I think. You have some great how to videos. I am just working on my 30,000 km service. Valves were good. Put new chain and sprockets, rear brake pads.
      Getting ready to start the front end now. Going to change fork oil and seals, tire and brake pads.
      Question, I just installed the Rottweiller intake. Not planning on changing the fueling, just deleted SAS and canister.
      Do you think it would cause the bike to be too lean? I'm thinking the O2 sensors will probably allow it to compensate and remain at the stock fuel ratio.
