This is my favorite lens. This lens was amazing for my African safari and adventures in Namibia. It’s very harsh there. The ability to have just one lens to capture landscapes and animals whether they are up close with the 50 or take it all the way out to 400 and then go into crop mode if needed for further reach is great. The lens is very sharp, and not cumbersome. I would highly recommend it over the Tamron 150 to 500 if you don’t like swapping lenses, particularly in dusty conditions. I previously had the 150-500 and it’s bigger and heavier. I was so happy to gain 100mm on the wide end. Well worth the sacrifice of the 100mm on the long end.
Julia, you and Dan can make any lens look good! I definitely like your balanced critique of this lens. It is probably not one for me but you did make it shine and I like how you offer some alternative lens suggestions. Thanks to Louisa for being such a good subject. All in all, this video would be so helpful in making a decision to buy this lens if one was considering it.
Thanks so much for the review; amazed with the Video performance of the lens and as an aside ; I have learnt quite a lot from your composing of your subjects plus the Camera settings.
I got to try this lens out earlier this month at a Tamron event in Carmel, CA and I really loved it. I don’t normally use anything that long, but it made me realize what I have been missing. I snapped a few candid pics with the people in my group and some up close detail landscape shots. Great video review!
Great review Julia. I hardly do portraits anymore but your portrait shoot is very telling and shows fantastic results. I tried this lens eight or so months back and bought it about two weeks ago. It is not quite at the quality level of my 28-75 G2 or the 70-180 but it is a fantastic versatile lens. I do landscapes and recent shoot produced a lot of keepers. For distant subjects, it is very sharp up to about 300mm or so a little soft on the very long end. For close ups, it is sharp throughout the range.
Ms. Julia, thank you once again. I love how you always give us a look at the focal range with you stationary, and one set with you moving for a consistent framing. OK, so you mentioned you like to shoot fast lenses, you dont like to have lenses you can only use in one lighting condition. But before that you mentioned you owned the Sony G 200-600 5.6-6.3. I'm watching this video because I'm trying to decide on a telephoto zoom for wildlife/birding and like that this 50-400 could help with landscapes as well. I also thought it might be a little better handling low light than the 200-600? Starting to feel like I should just resign myself to spending the extra money for the 200-600, but that comes with having to buy a camera bag that can handle it, hiking with that thing, etc.
I'm travelling to the Arctic next year and I'm gonna take photos of Polar bears and other wildlife and landscape in the Arctic. I thought about getting the Sony F 2.8 70-200mm GMII and combining it with a 2x teleconverter lens however I'm not a pro and don't necessarily plan on being one so I couldn't justify the price. I had already decided on getting this Tamron lens and I'll be buying it soon, I want to thank you for helping me consolidate my choice. It looks like a great lens for the price. Also, I noticed you're in my area Surry Hills, cool!
@@juliatrotti Update! I got the lens!! It's my first time using a pro level camera (Sony A7III), high level lens and the quality of the pics are incredible. But omg it's the biggest and by far the heaviest lens I've ever held. My left arm got tired after 5-10 minutes haha. It'll take me a while to get used to the weight but I can't wait to practice with it properly on the weekend! :)
Great video! I´d really like to know, how you achieve such a good audio quality :O It cant just be the NTG, is there something else like you do to the audio to sound this good? I absolutely love how it sound!
I emailed you about all your videos being uploaded on a Chinese site (some with tens of thousands of views). You might already know about it, anyway I hope you can have them taken down.
Thanks for letting me know! I've been aware of them doing this for a couple of years now, I've tried but can't get them to take the videos down. I think they do this with almost every single creator here on UA-cam :(
Honestly I was tempted to order it while I was making my review, it's such a nice camera. At the end of the day I just don't need those huge files! The A7IV is more than enough for me.
I think this is where Sony E-mount actually lacks, its lens range both first-party and third-party lack long focal length primes, there is no 200mm or 300mm primes. I am using Canon 200mm F2.8 L and 300mm F4 L on Sony cameras and also Fuji cameras.

Thank you, I appreciate it!
Super well done! I love what you did showing how the model and the background will look at different focal distances. Fantastic!
This is my all around lens with A7iii. I really love the versatility of this lens. I can do group shots and super closeup.

I'm the same, I usually prefer using wider lenses but in the last year or so I've been loving telephoto lenses more and more!

@@MarkG998 And I'm considering this lens as a lightweight option to my Sony 200-600 😀
You are one of my favorite photographers and the way you presented very lovely 🔥🔥😍😍
Awesome lense 👍🏻 I ordered one today for my ZVE1
Been waiting for you to cover this lens!
Great video! I hope they release this for the Fujifilm X.
Finally I found a youtube video which tests this lens for video usage...
Great video, so good I ordered a couple of your preset bundles. Appreciate ya, have a great holiday season
Thank you!

hi Juia!1 love your videos did the weight bother you at all??
Hi Julia,
there's now the Sigma 60-600mm Sports but you forgot the 100-400mm Contemporary 😉.
can we have indoor shoot video with samyang 135mm please
This lens looks really good. Would definitely go for it if I didn't already own the Sigma 100-400 (which you forgot to mention)
Do you photograph in s-log or do you keep picture profiles off for photography? I just bought this same lens
informative 13mins on both photo and video sides.
Thank you
🔥🔥🔥
I had so much fun using this lens at Night around Melbourne 😁😁
That’s a big baby to carry around still like Sony 16-35 g or 85mm
Gollum posture😂 I'm definitely guilty of that one too!
Isn't 70-300 better ? 🤔
A bit narrower range (ends of this one are not even used that much) but it's 550grams
Perfect .
I assume it doesn’t have in lens image stabilization?
hi how did you record the screen of you camera? thanks for such a good video.
Beautiful girl showing beautiful lens😊
The story of replacement of batteries for electric cars, EXPENSIV3. What are the costs for new batteries for electric bikes?

人民币8990元,获得一支50-400mm的长焦镜头,这波绝对值了!不过我还是想等降价后在入手。
Why Sony only 🤷🤷🤷
Because Sony users are the best. 😁
