  • This episode was first broadcast on ITV on the 15th February, 1986. Roy Kinnear was a very familiar face to me as a child from the voice of Pipkin in Watership Down to the voice of Mr. Sprot from Bertha. Later, as my love of classic British films and TV grew, Roy Kinnear was sure to make an appearance somewhere in the cast. From his performance in the film Melody to Ken Russell's French Dressing, or the hammer horror classic Taste the Blood of Dracula, and playing the seedy adult film producer Benny U. Murdoch in Eskimo Nell. Kinear's work spanned many genres, clearly a credit to the man's talent. On the 19th September, 1988, in Toledo, Spain and while Roy Kinnear was filming for The Return of the Musketeers, he fell from his horse, sustaining a broken pelvis and sadly passed away from a heart attack the next day at a Madrid hospital aged only 54.

Roy Kinnear was one of those comforting, familiar faces I grew up with, along with Leonard Rossiter. They both died too soon.

Back when that little box in the corner of your living room was like a magic window, where those that we would see most often, became as familiar to us as a visit from a friendly, welcoming uncle or aunt. Kinear, Rossiter, Cribbins, Cant, Castle... the list for me goes on and they all were a huge part of my childhood.

Great to see footage of a much loved, much missed comedy actor. I don't believe he ever quite gained the respect he deserved ... and the way he died was truly a tragedy. Thanks for uploading.

A lovely man with a great sense of humour. He's a bit too self deprecating, which makes me want to protect him. It's nice to see a celebrity that doesn't have a big ego and doesn't take life too seriously.

One of Roy's last TV roles was on an episode of Casualty which wasn't shown until the Summer of 1989 as a mark of respect for him as he died around the time it was originally meant to be broadcast.

Can you identify the source of the snippet of dialogue that can be heard at the very beginning of the most recent video on a channel called RR Classics ? Green logo, 15 subscribers. The owner of the channel has disappeared.
