  • This video will demonstrate the replacement of the Inner Splash Seal in the front axle and the Knuckle Seal for the Steering Knuckle. I have already replaced everything on the Starboard side, now it's the Port side's turn for some love and attention.
The Knuckle Seal Kits are becoming harder to find these days and I obtained these kits from a supplier in the Netherlands. They are N.O.S. dated 1952, they are in perfect condition and once installed they won't need to be changed again for another 25 to 30 years.

Great video! I just tore apart my own G506 knuckles, replacing the seals and all bearings. When you reassembled you put the spindle in wrong. It needs to go behind the backing plate not in front of it. The way you have it in the video it will push everything forward about a quarter inch and you won't be able to line up the brake pads with the wheel cylinder correctly or get the hub to seat all the way.

Paul, you're correct about the spindle. I didn't show it on camera that I had figured it out and fixed the mistake. It has been 10 years since I have done this particular "service" to a G-506 truck so my memory had waned a bit.
Thanks for watching my video, I'd enjoy seeing some photos of your truck as well. Dave.

Great job on the install! 🙂👍 I've never messed with one of those old military trucks before. Looks night and day different to the newer trucks 😲

Thanks Walt, you know the drill being that you're a retired Car-Man. You were trained how to service Rail Cars, you gained experience and then you got in there and busted your knuckles. It has actually been 11 years since I re-sealed the front axle of this type. But yes, I got the task completed. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you. I can't say off-hand about the bearings and I don't have a parts manual that would show. I would imagine that there would not be, but I should stay away from guessing.

Where did you find the seals kits? I’m working on one and the seal held on by the spring is shot and can’t find it

I had purchased 10 sets about 20 years ago. Memphis Equipment had them but is out of stock now and it is unknown when they will will replenish their stock. I do not have anymore either.
