I love adding fish… but even after a 3 month grow out/quarantine I have 3-4 established fish die. I follow all the advice from you and Kavman Kev. Just can’t figure this out and very frustrating! 4 sunsun hw3000 filters. Weekly and sometimes biweekly water changes for about 40 cichlids plus about 15 schooling barbs. I use API stress coat and sometimes melafix when changing. I use a tad bit of buffer for about 7.8 ph. I feed tdo chroma boast, spirulina 20 flakes, north fin cichlid pellets, Ron’s medicated food occasionally.
120 gallon tank… light about 6-8 hours… nitrates never go above 40 ppm. Temp 79. Caribsea substrate about 4 inch deep. No plants and cichlids stones about 2 boxes worth stacked 2 rows high for caves. Oh… water changes are 50%. Too many water charges? Just new fish stress?
Hi David, some quarantine time is better than none. For healthy fish exceptions can be made,(but with caution) for quarantine time frame. Usually a fish with parasites or bacterial and infections will show symptoms pretty quickly . All fish out of quarantine into main tank will need to be monitored for another two weeks as will all other fish also. Don’t see any issues for you as you have the experience and knowledge. I find that as long as the new fish aren’t seen as food they settle in nicely unless they make a run for tank boss or territory disputes. Great video mate.
Loving your soundtracks lately! Glad the new inmates are being accepted! My newest fish are a pair of Red Spot Gold Severums that I bought for my 180, however my currrent full grown Green Severum was not having them in the tank. After several interventions and almost an hour of him chasing them around, they have been moved into a 55 all by themselves where they will stay until I play musical tanks or they get much bigger to defend themselves ( currently they are about 1/3 the size of the green one. Glad you had better luck than me!
Thank you, I've been having more fun with music. I had a green severum for one day in my community tank about five years ago. He was just a little guy, but overnight he destroyed one of my female angelfish. It was horribly sad. The male angelfish was trying to guard her but he was just too quick at pecking at her. I don't think I'll ever have another green severum.
Great video, yeah most of us just can't wait either....well me that is I'm always needing room and switching fish around for new fish. We won't talk about my newest fish, sigh, I feel badly about losing 2 they all were from the same store, so I put all of them together in the new reef tank "Bikini Bottom" dedicated to Cichlid Charmer for his love for that show's tank decor, haha, 2-3 weeks later 2 are goners. Or it could be this warden didn't know what she's doing, heck I don't know. Thanks for fessing up, love the colors of all your fish, all of your tanks look just stunning and not to mention your video work wowsers, I can't even get one good pic on my old flip phone.... just kidding on the phone but still......
David, Wow those fish are stunning brother. 3 weeks is long enough and Andre pitre has very good breeding and selection that I am sure the fish are parasite free. 2 weeks probably would have been long enough. I am loving my MBUNA tank the way these guys just move the sand around and are in and out of caves. The way they spit the sand out and dig is so cool. They are like the busy bees of the fish world. I love them a lot and the colors are amazing. Hopefully one day I can meet you at Aquashella and we can talk all things fish and Africans and other community fish. Can’t wait to see what you chose for American cichlids. Where did you get them from? Oh I hope it is some fish I recommended :). 😂
I love your tanks and fish! You do a great job of decor and fish selection. I also have a 240 gallon American cichlid tank, I have a video on my channel if you wouldn't mind taking a look. I look forward to seeing future content. I am also in Washington across the pass near Olympia.
So the new ones are more Americans, a few I've been thinking about getting, a few I didn't even know about, and one I've wanted since the beginning. They turned out to look even smaller than I was anticipating though, so it's going to be a while before they're no longer San Quentin bite size.
@ yeah your tank is huge though which helps immensely. I know most of those fish pretty well and you don’t really have any that are on the vicious side.
It's really cool you don't have to cut power to your filter during routine water changes. I have the HOB Blues😅 Don't forget that heater though!! Take it from an idiot who's been there!!😮
It is pretty cool and the boys love the turbulent water. Makes them frisky. My eheim heaters automatically turn off when too much is exposed to the air, but I've also never had one explode in over four years of weekly water changes on multiple tanks.
Jurupari prefer to be in a group. Have 5 in a tank. Jurupari don't thrive with African cichlids. They prefer soft water like any Geophagus cichlid. They'll do great with your Surinamensis. Have 5 Nicaraguans. Largest is 12". Beast. They were too aggressive as a group for my Jurupari. Placed my Jurupari with a group of Winemilleri.
They will not be in a group of juruparis, but they will probably join up with the group of altifrons that are coming over eventually. They won't be staying with the African female assassins very long
Non related cichild question here, what’s with the black shirt and black hat fit, not that there’s anything wrong with it but I can only see u with that outfit on or the blue shirt all the time😅
Like and subscribe, and what were your last new fish and do you like them as much as I like Andre's Africans? Thanks for watching!

Wow! Alcatraz looks awesome man!
Thanks, Drew!
Just set up my new malawi tank. Thanks for prompting me to do this
Best of luck 😍
Thanks CC! 👍🏽
Beautiful fish!! Tanks are huge. Man you’re lucky, I wish I could have those big tanks😮
I am super lucky. Thank you!

That galaxy peacock is on fire!!
He's liking the new digs. Even Blind Bart seems to like him lol
Love your Cichlids!❤
You have an obvious flare for blue going on in that tank!
And healthy, well-behaved fish too!
Thank you!

Feels like I’m watching Deeper Shades of Cichlids with the music. lol. Like the playlist
🤣 thanks
3 weeks is not bad. Love the fish next. What are those?

Ur tank is a great size, no complaints from me👍🏽💪🏽
Thanks 👍
Beautiful fish.
Thank you very much!
Cant wait to see the jurupari
They're going to be great in San Quentin. Thanks!
Do you like keeping SA cichlids alongside CA? Have you considered separating them ?
So far so good. Many CAs are too aggressive though, so I can't have them.
@ yeah your tank is huge though which helps immensely. I know most of those fish pretty well and you don’t really have any that are on the vicious side.
@@willhopson1277 That does help. Kevin the blue Texas is the most aggressive, but even he has chilled out recently.
And I like the music too
Thanks. It's one of the most fun parts of editing 😃
At 7:05 the song track was pretty intense

To quote Spider-Man 3, it makes me happy
