Let me know if you'd be interested in shipping a male Haiten one day after you have yours picked out. I've always dug the Haitens as well. Beautiful fish... almost like a smaller dovii in black and white.
You've got absolutely beautiful tanks. I wish mine were like them. I've tried everything in know, which isn't much. That's why I'm here. My tank Americans. Favorite Green Terror.
Thank you! The only important thing is that YOU like your tanks. I get comments that people like mine, and then others say they're boring lol. Thank you though. I actually just ordered a green terror today 😍
I hear a lot about the severums, and a long time ago I had gold severums, but just one at a time. I'm excited to see how my mouth brooding severum is as he gets older, and the goes are awesome. Thanks!
If I didn't know Zeke and have stories from when he was just a pup, he would probably have swapped with Buck in the lineup. I just love that true parrot. Thank you!
Great list Dave, lots of beautiful and awesome fish. Now If I had to overall pick a favorite, it would be my 4 Oscars (albino, black fin albino, tiger and a red oscar). Beauty alone it would be a tie in between my Electric Green Texan (about Kevin's size) and my Jack Dempsey (female 4-5 inches). Now for my Africans, I mostly have peacocks with the exception of one yellow lab, one venustus and one snow white socolofi. Can't beat the colors in these African Cichlids. Great video Pal, keep it coming.
David, Great list Sir. All the fish are so pretty. I have to say my three prettiest fish with personality is my Green Terror Gold Saum he is so vibrant and pretty. My Threadfin Acara is very pretty and the EBA. Great fish and personality. My two fish that act like puppy dogs is my Tiger Oscar and my Green Severum. The Severum was my first American Cichlid so he’s special to me. When he greats me at the glass and looks at me waiting for food. Chocolate cichlids are pretty amazing too. There color goes from a dark purple and green to everything in between. I am surprised you don’t have a chocolate cichlid. Mines a female and she is still pretty with the red eyes.
Those are great fish and you have great reasons for loving them. So my severum just hangs out pretty much the thing not to get noticed, but he's very young. I actually do have a chocolate cichlid. He's still very small. I got him about the same size as Percy, my oscar, but he's grown at only a fraction of the rate that Percy has grown. Hell probably develop some more personality as he gets bigger. My acaras are pretty, but I'm not as crazy about them as most people are. I'm a weirdo, though, Jeremy. You probably already know that lol
@ yeah Severums and chocolates grow slow. Unlike an Oscar. My tiger oscar is growing like a weed. He is by far the fastest fish I have seen grow cichlid wise. Another fish that grows fast and is my favorite tetra is the Congo tetras. They are so pretty and active and very mellow. Highly recommend them. They are good with angels and geos. I have them in my 55 gal planted tank with my EBA, Threadfin acara and my Oscar who is growing out. Congos are very pretty and so cool with there long fins. Highly recommend them. I have a group of 6. 5 males 1 female. They are easy to sex also males have the long flowy fins and the females don’t. They all have color though. My MBUNA tank is coming along nicely. They have great color.
@@jeremymoore450 I really wanted some for San Quentin, but they would get picked off one by one by the oscar and maybe someone else. You're right, Jeremy -- they are beautiful. A great accent fish.
You have a great top 15 list of fish. Your salvini is stunningly beautiful and the vieja is really beautiful as well. They are in my top 10 for sure. I'm more of a fan of central and South American cichlids over African cichlid.
Have you contemplated setting up a marine tank? Just because of how passionate you are about your fish I think you would be successful with it. Oh and from your fish my favorites have to be Kevin and Silvia, absolutely stunning they are, they know it that is why they fight a lot, out of jealousy lol.
I just am really not that interested in Marine fish for some reason, but that's good, because I am so stretched for time as it is with all these guys and videos. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!
Nice update on your beautiful fish, they sure all are growing into their colors really stunning. In the present time not the past my fav. has to be all my Rams and Apistos with all their flashing and mixture of colors. Then my Red Empress "Big John" he really has come into his full colors of reds and blues tho he is the biggest in the tank maybe too big and he can be aggressive just making sure all know it. Next is my Kevin of the tank the Afra Jalo Reef "Java" he is such a stunner and now that I figured out who the female is and got her out Java has calmed down a lot. For my top fav. now is the Firemouth "Flash" who is now a proud papa of 76 fry, him and the Tiger Convict got it on. Anyway, his colors are stunning, his eyes have a blue rim that just sparkle which he uses to look deep into your soul, he'll come up to the top of the water bump my hand and swim around it. He has attitude and uses it when needed, I just love him. Sorry I got carried away yet again, Thanks for another great video "Chrome Dome" I aways enjoy watching them.
You have a lot of great fish to fight for that number one spot. Your Flash sounds like a really cool guy, bumping your hand and all that. Those Americans are really something aren't they?
Awesome video Dave "Shiny Dome", since i subscribed to your channel im thinking on getting into african cichlids, but i dont know if 50 gallon is too small for some yellow labs to start.
I would get a pair but they are sold with Like 5 cm so you cant Really See If they are Male or female so i would Just Order 1 otherwise the risk of 2 males IS to high
Have you contemplated the idea of a marine tank? Just because of how passionate you are about your fish I think you would be successful with it. Oh and from your fish, my favorites have to be Kevin and Silvia, both of them just stunning, they know it that's why they fight a lot, out of jelousy lol.
They are such cool fish, but no. I decided to keep Cichlids a little more on the mild side. I do have my black nasties, but that will be a solo nasty tank.
I did not say that. I said I am not a big fan of them. Mainly because most of them were too aggressive for my taste. Two things, however: first, I have an order in from a breeder who says might be able to sway me on that, and second, yes, I am also out of my mind.
Very nice fish! On your African cichlid tank I am at a cross roads with my peacock, hab setup. Light or black substrate. What’s your vote? I’ve seen that some folks think their colors stand out better with dark substrates and with a black background may look good. I’ve just always done light substrates.
Thank you! Some fish are more colorful with dark substrate and others with a light substrate. I really like the look of a white substrate, even if their colors aren't as vibrant on some of them.
Good list I love how everyone's list would be different 🙃 I would probably have a few less Americans in the list 🤔lol Kool vs Beautiful would be very lists:) Oscar vs Jack Dempsey 🤔👍
Can a green terror, jack Dempsey tank be a 48" 105 gallon tank? Or should I step up to a 60" 100+ tank? There would probably be a couple more similar sized fish in there as well.
Such a great question. So I always err on the side of caution. I usually go above what the minimum suggested tank size is, especially if there are multiple fish of about the same size. Those two get pretty big and are somewhat aggressive. I wanted them for my 180 but decided against it. I wouldn't put either of those in the tank sizes you mentioned, but some other smaller sized fish like around the six inch mark or so would be a better option imo.
Might be a dumb question but, how do u do water changes in your 10ft tank? is it a long process or is it easier to take care of that tank then I think?
I think your opinion will change for the Jack Dempsey’s once they pair if you have a male and a female my male and female pair are only 3 inches and keep my 10 inch plus fish on one side of the tank when laying eggs so they will give you a run for your money. Don’t doubt them. lol
Good point! I pretty much expect every cichlid to up their game if they pair off and start mating. Doubly so for the more aggressive ones like these. We'll see if the extra space in a 10-footer makes any difference. Good comment, Tay.
I like your True Parrot fish the most. I have been unable to find them anywhere including The Greater Chicago Cichlid Association Swap meet. Are they similar in behavior to the Blood Red Parrot? I love the Blood Red Parrots complete lack of fear towards humans. They are the opposite of skittish.
Buck is a little skittish, but he will eat from my hand so that says something. He was more skittish when he was smaller, and the smaller one I have is also skittish.
