To squeeze all that talent into one man is unfathomable. I know Edgar is an icon but the fact that he isn’t mentioned up there with artists like Prince is a crime.
popeye3234 Kids?, it would be good to have any kids there, they are mostly white and bald headed old timers. Nothing bad with that, but I do believe youth should appreciate this kind of masterpiece!! I'm just 25 by the way.
Edgar Winter is more than a pop icon, he's a pioneer in electronic keyboards, master composer and multi-instrumentalist,way beyond the crap that masquerades as music these days!
Pure genius I am 52 years old and can remember listening to this in my mom's Volkswagen rabbit in 1983 God rest Jonny I just love it never gets old rock edger your the man

i think that Edgar could have simply made a name as a drummer, because he's one of the best i've ever seen, but he's so freakin multi talented it's not funny
This song started out called The Double Drum Song when Edgar was in his brother Johnny Winter's band. Check out the remastered Second Winter CD. They did Frankenstein at Royal Albert Hall in 1970. This song never gets boring.
I’ve listened to some version of this so many times. I love listening to the original on my head phones. I feel overwhelmed by how many way this can be played and still amaze me. I can’t really understand how this genius isn’t more well known. I have to take a few minutes out of my life to try and absorb all of this.
This song and group is badass! The talent displayed here at this jam session is phenomenal to say the least! I bought this 45 when I was 14 loved it played it every chance I got and I get to listen to it on you tube with headphones it’s incredible!☄️💥🔥
Frankenstein rocks like no other song, a real classic, written originally to showcase the capabilities of the synth of the time 1973. Today’s musicians can’t appreciate what it took for Winter to create sounds that now can be done with a few buttons. It’s interesting when you consider how a synth of today is much lighter, has many more functions and wireless technology gives musicians much more freedom. I also agree that this crowd is kind of strange but hey, you gotta take what you get. I have heard several different live versions of the song but this is a little different: I wonder if the interlude / keyboard solo from 6:48 to 8:36 was intentionally put in by Winter to mock or punish the audience for either their lack of enthusiasm or for applauding in all the wrong places in the middle of the song?
Hell of a song! The guitar shredding just kicks you right in the face! Not to mention that synthesizer. I can remember when this came out. Kind of crossed what was then "Acid Rock" into the everyday hard rock stations and even into the top 40. He's definitely talented.
Yes, it's interesting, for any of those old rockers that can still put it together, their best fans are now retiring and have the time and dough to go see some shows. I think you'll see a lot of old guys in the audiences for many artists. I saw Johnny and Edgar in 1976 on the campus of the university of Minnesota, a great concert. Unfortunately the University didn't like the way we behaved and banded rock concerts for a time. I thought it was all good fun. I saw Johnny again last year.
This is the epitome of classic rock! There are many live versions of this song. They're all awesome! Back in the day, the focus was much more on people playing their instruments. Today, it mostly on the technology.
Free Ride and Frankenstein for two of my favorite songs growing up. Hearing Edgar play the synth live is incredible. It's amazing what sounds he can get from it.
That guitar player has been with him for 10 years now. I just saw his most recent band last Friday night in Clearwater, Florida. Doug is still his guitar player, but he had an all black rhythm section that are way better than this bass player and drummer.
I saw Edgar with an 88- key keyboard strapped over his shoulders. Frankenstein came alive that night under the light show at Paul Stadium, Massilon, Ohio. The song had just come out.
One of the best concerts I ever went to was at the old Spectrum in Philly more years ago than I care to remember. Cold Turkey, Black Sabbath and Edgar Winter's White Trash were all on the same show. Fun times.
That V-Synth arpeggiator is irresistable (in the new section in the middle of the piece). :D I wondered how he'd replicate the ARP modulated filter when it came to that part. Very nicely done.
This has got to be the best sounding live Frankenstein I've seen. That guitar tone is so fat, and when the monster riff comes back in near the end it's like heaven and some kind of orgasm rolled into one. He's got a great group together. Also, does the man never age? What's up with that?
You should see his new band, the guitarist has been with him 10 years, but he has an all black rhythm section that just kills. Saw them Friday night, and they threw down some serious shit. Loud and thick!
this guy could and still does play anything and everything in any style true master and you can see he really enjoys his music god how old is edgar and johnny now.
To squeeze all that talent into one man is unfathomable. I know Edgar is an icon but the fact that he isn’t mentioned up there with artists like Prince is a crime.
That crowd doesn't deserve to hear this song. Fucking crickets when he introduced it. Wow.

GuitarSlinger2112 I agree made me sick Edgar Winter doing Frankenstein you got to be fucking kidding me right??
What do you expect from future liberals in the crowd!!
You’d think the audience would be going out of their minds watching this. Very sad sight
My father had this album. When I listened to this at only 10 years old in 73, I was blown away. That audience was listening to a musical genious.
Edgar Winter is more than a pop icon, he's a pioneer in electronic keyboards, master composer and multi-instrumentalist,way beyond the crap that masquerades as music these days!
Thank you Rick.🙏🏻
Ok Boomer
Hi Rick Derringer! You were playing the night I saw the group at the Channel in Boston. Great night!
WELL Said!
Definitely something that deserves to be played more often in my mind , just like hendrix trail blazing brilliance ❤

This version better than single
Toledo, OH 1973: watched The Ghoul every Saturday night with my girlfriend. Brings back found memories from 50 years ago…🥲
I am only 34 and I can listen to this all day long over and over again. Most of the audience look extremely stoned.
Only 34, okay boomer.

Absolutely a super star! That brother is STILL killing it! Awesome!
Nothin but the best...quantity and quality...balance & coordination...1973? I wuz 12 yrs old...MEMORIES!!😎
I first saw Edgar Winter in 1973 then again in 2019. Each concert was fantastic.
Wow. He plays the keyboard, saxophone and drums all in one song!
He plays like seven instruments fluently.
That’s true talent
He is truly gifted!
And he turns the knobs on the control panel. 8-)
If you pay close attention, he also walked around and I'm pretty sure he was chewing gum, too. Dude is god-tier, no doubt about it. 🤘🏻
Dude could play anything
No shit eh?!! Frickin' virtuoso!!
That was fun to see them do that. I have listened to this song for years, but had never seen them play it. This audience did not deserve them.
classic 70's is so awesome.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and I was unaware of Edgar Winter. Sure I knew the songs, but I can’t believe how blown away I am right now!

No words, unbelievable talent. RIP Johnny Winter.
