Me to I’m 50 and still write rap and write songs and make beats ..I rap and record with my son who is 21…. It’s art and creativity…I’m not tryna become artist I do it for the ART as a outlet…
@@siyagee1000 Black Thought, Snoop, Nas, Jay-Z, El-P all have 30+ years in the game and can still outrap most of these kids. So, there are several examples of grey-haired rappers.
I started rapping in the 8th grade in 2000. Started producing in college at 20 back in 2007. I’m STILL creating music and I’ll never stop until I’m off the Earth. No man is gonna tell me how to use my God given gift and what age I should pursue it. Gillie got lucky with the podcast path or he’d be another artist from 2001 that never popped off. Dawg gotta chill on the elitist “gatekeeping”.
Yea I never understood the age limit. I can agree certain topics you will outgrow as you get older. But just make music for the people in your age bracket
Was thinking about it this morning. Hip-hop is the only genre of music that discriminates on age. All other genres celebrate their artists, no matter how old they are...
Yo your take on that perfect, I'm over 50 and been producing since I was 17, I love it, Hip hop is in my soul, why should I have to stop creating, even if it's just for myself... I have to do it... great job on getting that point across..💯
So true, in the Jamaican dancehall and reggae culture they don’t give a crap about your age as long you are good they want to here from you, you can make it at any age in that genre.
That's what I said to myself. If I wasn't established by 30 I'd pursue something else. My mother got Alzheimer's around that time and I became a caregiver for about 7 years before she passed. I regret placing that limitation on myself and realize it was not real. After my mom passed I had matured way more and had more wisdom and real topics to get off my chest. Hip hop is a grown up 50 year genre now and is not just for kids anymore. You just have to adjust your message for the adults in the culture. If established artists are still performing at 45/50 years old there's no age limit.
Hit-boy doing an album with his pops that just got out of prison. we are at a time in music where age is a thing of the past. It's how you package your brand and like you said if it makes people feel something they're going to gravitate towards it. We hear this type of talk in hip hop all the time Age this age that.
This is why you can’t let others project their reality on you. For HIM, he may be too old to rap. When your maturity level is still stuck in your 20s then yea he right, don’t want to see a 40 yr old trying to be 20. But if he was talking about some grown man ish then imo the culture needs that. We need more MEN and WOMEN leading the way, not kids. But we been conditioned, and it’s so toxic. And imo he embodies that toxicity and mindset that holds us as a people back!! I said what I said!
I started rapping around 1979. I been a street hustler and had jobs like Janitor, Aircraft Structural Mechanic, Computer Tech, etc. Sure I made more money in all of those things that came and went, but I'm still rapping at age 60. Curtiss I wonder what percentage of Gillie's success can be attributed to Wallo, and maybe instead of telling older rappers to hang it up he could recommend they find someone like Wallo to assist in their career. If interested I have music on my channel from the 1980's - 2020 and I'll be dropping a new album soon as well. Best of health, happiness and success to you all. - Imp the Great
From someone that stood with Gilliedakid many, many years ago at the Armory, I agree with what you (Curtiss King) said in this. I remember seeing them OG's they have skill... When we travel, there is an A and B, Some don't even get to "A" some don't get to "B" but some do and some Go from A to B..... that travel from A to B and inbetween is all important. Thank you for this video. Those are my Thought on it....
@Curtis I love this video right here. Individuals need to just be themselves and do what they love. Music and the Arts have no age limit. That’s the beautiful thing about it. Keep killing it with the content brotha!
some people man 🤣 if i'm 40 and rapping, I won't give a daaammn what some younger cat has to say. it's all about the love for the art and creation. these kids are stuck in their ego and not making sense
People who say you too old to rap don't know what rap is. It's talking, conversation, poetry and self expression. When you get too old for that... you've must've died.
I'm going to put this out here...BP have a limited view of what, when, where, why, and how success happens. One person's success is another person's failure. The 'rap' demographic of people think between 18 and 25 is it and that's it. You don't see this idea in Pop, Rock, Dance, or other genres of music. Rodney Dangerfield didn't find 'success' until he was in his 50s. Everybody's time is different, experiences different, and that's why not everyone is someone you should listen too. I like their podcast, but their views are limited to their world and what they have experienced. Don't let someone make your destiny, create your own path, and stay committed to what you desire to be.
I had this conversation with a friend of mine the other day. And the conversation it was said "i cant be doing this rapping when I'm 50". I thought that was totally insane, because think about it, you spend your whole life to get to a point where you're doing what you love for a living, you don't want to do it for the rest of your life? WILD. If you don't feel comfortable rapping about the things you're rapping about when you're 50 as you are when you're 30 you should probably reconsider the music you're making. Because people grow out of music and they grow up, I would rather make music my listeners grow into than grow out of. The songs that I I've shared with the public I would be perfectly happy performing them 30 years from now
This is genuinely one of the most important videos iv watched this week. Pretty awesome to see that I'm not the only one with this passion that just won't die even after I tried walking from it, or tried burying it for years coz a 9 to 5 was a safer option. I'm glad I have the ability to take care of my family financially... But honestly, my 9 to 5 provides structure and stability (something I'm really greatful for)... But music is medicine for my soul. I'm only 29 so In a way that doesn't sound too bad...I can take care of Family, so now it's time to just do this thing for me. Thank you King
There is no ceiling to what you love to do. We, as a people, are the only ones that place limitations on what you love. Always remember, you have one life to live on this earth...do what the F" you love!

Not a rapper, a producer/beatmaker , but thought bout rappin cuz I have things to say sometimes....... And I have nothing to brag about regarding my music. And if this guy is going to make me quit tryin, then I would be a real loser. Now I'm more motivated to start rappin even....... Lets say at 50 if I feel like it. Keep it up Curtiss @CurtissKingTV 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
It just sounds like he has his own issues he has to heal/sort through to be honest. It would be RIDICULOUS and illogical not to utilize this large new platform he has on account of his age. Silly.
Mannnn I love this reaction. Your thoughts on this are spot on 💯. Who’s anyone to set a age limit. I will say though, Gille already somewhat had a name when he started his podcast so it’s a lil different but I definitely agree, some could say he was older starting a podcast.
I wish that the overseas success that can happen with American rappers was more visible than what has been shown. There’s a lot of opportunities in hip hop overseas.
If it wasn't for me being introduced to making music by way of rapping I would have never found my way into music production. I feel that anyone who wants to "rap" should be reasonable with what they decide to rap about. Like you said it would have been delusional of me to have my daughter in the middle of me grinding to learn how to produce and continue to pursue becoming a better music producer by ignoring my responsibilities as a single father. Do I look at myself becoming a rapper, NO. Do I look at myself becoming a multi-platinum producer maybe? I'm I gonna be constantly in the studios late nights trying to be in the clubs with people here and there? Hell No. I have to find another way to brand myself and spin my ability to create a potential "business" with music for myself another way and as of now, thanks to social media and UA-cam I can still do that.
Agree 99.9% Except for gangster rappers...that shit definitely has an expiration date and age limit/max Sorry not sorry, here's looking at you Jimmy Jones
Since most people can make the music from home and not need the industry to support them there is no age limit. An independent artist can make living in Hip Hop just as long as they don't expect to be played on radio or get any mainstream recognition.
Success is about having skills and applying them. 1. Never listen to others that have not done it before! 2: Have a 100 year vision, plan & develop it. It doesn't matter if you do not live to see it happen in the end! It should be bigger than YOU and inspiring from ones soul to other souls. 3. Writing, publishing, audio books, voice overs, commercials, acting, hosting, teaching, performing, merchandising etc. There are so many unlimited ways to utilize your born and cultivated talents. Explore all your options.
Exactly a number (age) doesn’t take away from the fact your dope on the mic 💯 just cuz I stop riding bikes doesn’t mean I don’t still know how to ride one.. and there’s way more music opportunities now then we had back then so i take advantage of this time.
This is a weird form of gatekeeping in an era when doing things for yourself (producing, recording, mixing, mastering, release, marketing) has never been more accessible. If you're doing everything you need to do in life, who cares how old you are?
He has a point tho why you think the young rappers running this rap shit, and I told my homie man the rap game changed. Yeah we started young, but we got understand the rap game changed from Lil Wayne to NBA Young Boy.
I believe for the most part if you're a rapper that's chasing the "young & reckless" demographic who's mostly concerned with partying and having fun it is possible to win in that realm like 2 Chainz did but it will be a big fight and may look a little off due to you trying to keep up with a younger mindset as trends & the world changes. That demographic is best suitable for younger rappers but if you're an older rapper that's rapping with substance or real lyrical ability more like a Ransom, Griselda, RJ Payne ETC people won't give a fuck if you was 100 years old because in that world of Hip Hop is where age has never and will never matter. That's where "Skills Over Politics" lives forever. The most a hater can say at that point is "yeah that nigga damn near old as planet earth itself but he can outrap damn near everybody on planet earth too" #freegems
@CurtissKingTV Ridiculous. I’ve never heard this conversation thrown around in any other genre besides hip-hop. I live in Nashville, TN, and every year there is a new country artist that is blowing up and they’re all above 30-50. It’s sad that my people love to clip wings before you can fly. Shameful man. If you’re over 40, keep pushing. 8 billion people on this planet and millions of them feel just like you do. P&L
Imagine believing that Gillie Da Kid is 39. Look at Saint jhn and look at gillie da kid. Supposedly only 2 years apart, Gillie like most artists in the industry is lying about his age.
I think society puts to much emphasis on age for certain things. I feel any hobby or passion you enjoy as long as your not infringing on other people’s rights can and should be enjoyed regardless of age! Life is too short not too!! 💯💪🏾
I think this is the problem. Rap music has to grow up, Older artists have a more grown-up game to give. This is why the youngster can't grow either.. Cause the music still young. And capped at a age group
Also, because we have the ability to put our on music out I feel that anybody has the ability to be a part of whatever music entity they want. Pete and Bas have set the example in my opinion for setting the tone. It is what it is.
When you think about it, older rappers are a lot better story tellers because they have more to speak on; they can take the art to a higher level. If you on some "up in the club" type ish and you're in your late 40s, then yeah put the mic down.
Thats the difference between a rapper and a artist..a rapper might feel as if they only have a time limitation..an artist will always have a picture to paint
Rap is wrap so what is the present inside the box. It's a huge genre. You don't necessarily need to sale records or do shows. Rap and hip-hop is like bread it goes great with a lot of things. You feel me.
Gillie was a beast! Now he got the 💼 he comfy just goes to show it never was his passion….🤷🏿 When they say they tryna get to a new level all that means is they trying to buy more shit! Like dam how much more shit u wanna buy !!??? It’s never gonna make u happy..Material things never can!!🤷🏿
That’s HIS opinion. What he thinks is not law. Creativity has no limits.

He couldn’t be more wrong started producing in my 20s n just turned 30 a year ago started working at my local studio n I still sell beats keep going no matter wat
Thee ONLY music genre where we put an expiration date on creativity.
I do not care what someone's age is, f that noise. If someone is making music that I connect with, they can be 12 or 99. Idc. Music is universal.
thank you. I feel like this is about ' someone who is feeling like a loser, preaching to others, who he feels, are bigger loosers' . Talkin bout this guy Gillie . I just turned 44.
Keep it up Curtiss @CurtissKingTV

It just sounds like he has his own issues he has to heal/sort through to be honest. It would be RIDICULOUS and illogical not to utilize this large new platform he has on account of his age. Silly.
Foreal tho! 💯💯
Gillie talking bout folks who do shit but ain't got their heart in it
Mannnn I love this reaction. Your thoughts on this are spot on 💯. Who’s anyone to set a age limit.
I will say though, Gille already somewhat had a name when he started his podcast so it’s a lil different but I definitely agree, some could say he was older starting a podcast.
Gillie Da Kid is just mad he never got off like he wished he did
He doesn't say that to Rick Ross or 2 chainz heck even Benny the butchers blow up in his late 30's
You can do music as long as the love for it last......there is no age limit....
I don't care about Rappers bio, favorite colors or bdays ... All I care about IS THE BARS .. 👨🏾⚖️🤷🏾♂️
Gillie projecting his own insecurities Im 42 and still creating dope music
Agree 99.9%
Except for gangster rappers...that shit definitely has an expiration date and age limit/max
Sorry not sorry, here's looking at you Jimmy Jones
Since most people can make the music from home and not need the industry to support them there is no age limit. An independent artist can make living in Hip Hop just as long as they don't expect to be played on radio or get any mainstream recognition.
@@tranz4m473 EXACTLY 💯💯
Success is about having skills and applying them.
1. Never listen to others that have not done it before!
2: Have a 100 year vision, plan & develop it. It doesn't matter if you do not live to see it happen in the end! It should be bigger than YOU and inspiring from ones soul to other souls.
3. Writing, publishing, audio books, voice overs, commercials, acting, hosting, teaching, performing, merchandising etc.
There are so many unlimited ways to utilize your born and cultivated talents.
Explore all your options.
💯 great info here
Exactly a number (age) doesn’t take away from the fact your dope on the mic 💯 just cuz I stop riding bikes doesn’t mean I don’t still know how to ride one.. and there’s way more music opportunities now then we had back then so i take advantage of this time.
thank you curtis, that's all that needs to be said !
This is a weird form of gatekeeping in an era when doing things for yourself (producing, recording, mixing, mastering, release, marketing) has never been more accessible.
If you're doing everything you need to do in life, who cares how old you are?
I’m 38 and I make techno music I’ll be doing it until Im in the dirt 😂
Well said.
The most a hater can say at that point is "yeah that nigga damn near old as planet earth itself but he can outrap damn near everybody on planet earth too"

Haven't watched your channel in like 3 years. Glad I watched this video 📹
Facts.
Thanks man
Also, because we have the ability to put our on music out I feel that anybody has the ability to be a part of whatever music entity they want. Pete and Bas have set the example in my opinion for setting the tone. It is what it is.
He only saying that cause is rap career never happened 😂
When you think about it, older rappers are a lot better story tellers because they have more to speak on; they can take the art to a higher level. If you on some "up in the club" type ish and you're in your late 40s, then yeah put the mic down.
That’s a solid point. You would just hope they also see the value in sharing those stories instead of chasing trends 💯
Gillie ain’t no 39 he like 45-46. His sons rap now but , I feel you ! No age limit …
Yup
This is a dope message
Don’t ever quit what u love ❤️
There’s no age to begin rap or quit rap
Do what u love
That’s gillies opinion
The grown are supposed to mentor the youth, not idolize them. 🤷🏽♂️
💎
Thats the difference between a rapper and a artist..a rapper might feel as if they only have a time limitation..an artist will always have a picture to paint
Preach. God damn!
"even when the hairline balding, I'll be rhyme forming I'm all in..." - SmokeIzFire
Music has no age limit, I really believe Gillie is just super animated at times and does this to stir controversy.
3:46 Facts 💯 👏🔥
My favorite video!!! Going through something like this in my own life…it’s never too late to pursue your passions🙏🏾🙏🏾
These rappers turned podcasters are showing their true colors. They never had the passion. If the passion is in you, you will always have it in you.
Rap is wrap so what is the present inside the box. It's a huge genre. You don't necessarily need to sale records or do shows. Rap and hip-hop is like bread it goes great with a lot of things. You feel me.
I agree with this take Curtiss. Anything is possible.
Morgan freeman has been old the whole time I’ve seen him
😭
Gillie was a beast! Now he got the 💼 he comfy just goes to show it never was his passion….🤷🏿
When they say they tryna get to a new level all that means is they trying to buy more shit! Like dam how much more shit u wanna buy !!??? It’s never gonna make u happy..Material things never can!!🤷🏿
SIA who is A BIG Artist now only started popping after Titanium with David Guetta came out. She was 36 at the time!
