Started rapping in 7th grade. Always loved it but didn't see or believe how I could make it a career. Went to college got a job. Not perusing music was my biggest regret. Decided to get back to it at 31. The regret ate me up more than anything else. I couldn't live with the what if. I'll be doing this till I can't. If you have doubts keep pushing! The hell with regret!

That's what I said to myself. If I wasn't established by 30 I'd pursue something else. My mother got Alzheimer's around that time and I became a caregiver for about 7 years before she passed. I regret placing that limitation on myself and realize it was not real. After my mom passed I had matured way more and had more wisdom and real topics to get off my chest. Hip hop is a grown up 50 year genre now and is not just for kids anymore. You just have to adjust your message for the adults in the culture. If established artists are still performing at 45/50 years old there's no age limit.

When your maturity level is still stuck in your 20s then yea he right, don’t want to see a 40 yr old trying to be 20. But if he was talking about some grown man ish then imo the culture needs that. We need more MEN and WOMEN leading the way, not kids. But we been conditioned, and it’s so toxic. And imo he embodies that toxicity and mindset that holds us as a people back!! I said what I said!

Curtiss I wonder what percentage of Gillie's success can be attributed to Wallo, and maybe instead of telling older rappers to hang it up he could recommend they find someone like Wallo to assist in their career. If interested I have music on my channel from the 1980's - 2020 and I'll be dropping a new album soon as well. Best of health, happiness and success to you all. - Imp the Great

I'm going to put this out here...BP have a limited view of what, when, where, why, and how success happens. One person's success is another person's failure. The 'rap' demographic of people think between 18 and 25 is it and that's it. You don't see this idea in Pop, Rock, Dance, or other genres of music. Rodney Dangerfield didn't find 'success' until he was in his 50s. Everybody's time is different, experiences different, and that's why not everyone is someone you should listen too. I like their podcast, but their views are limited to their world and what they have experienced. Don't let someone make your destiny, create your own path, and stay committed to what you desire to be.

I had this conversation with a friend of mine the other day. And the conversation it was said "i cant be doing this rapping when I'm 50". I thought that was totally insane, because think about it, you spend your whole life to get to a point where you're doing what you love for a living, you don't want to do it for the rest of your life? WILD. If you don't feel comfortable rapping about the things you're rapping about when you're 50 as you are when you're 30 you should probably reconsider the music you're making. Because people grow out of music and they grow up, I would rather make music my listeners grow into than grow out of. The songs that I I've shared with the public I would be perfectly happy performing them 30 years from now

I'm glad I have the ability to take care of my family financially... But honestly, my 9 to 5 provides structure and stability (something I'm really greatful for)... But music is medicine for my soul.

    Some thoughs:
    - Using a platform to boost you up and only then get listeners can be good or bad, the bad side is having influencers being rappers and also creates a dependency on the original platform.
    - Too old is a case by case thing, some people do pop off 'old' and others aren't really poping because they simply lack a any of the fundamentals things necessary for success, (talent, marketing, connection with people, relatability, charisma, or whatever else) in this last scenario it's possibly that focusing on something else could be better for that person but it's always messed up to say "Hey man, give up on your dream" even if often, that's the reality.

Like you said it would have been delusional of me to have my daughter in the middle of me grinding to learn how to produce and continue to pursue becoming a better music producer by ignoring my responsibilities as a single father. Do I look at myself becoming a rapper, NO. Do I look at myself becoming a multi-platinum producer maybe? I'm I gonna be constantly in the studios late nights trying to be in the clubs with people here and there? Hell No. I have to find another way to brand myself and spin my ability to create a potential "business" with music for myself another way and as of now, thanks to social media and UA-cam I can still do that.

This is a weird form of gatekeeping in an era when doing things for yourself (producing, recording, mixing, mastering, release, marketing) has never been more accessible.
If you're doing everything you need to do in life, who cares how old you are?

He has a point tho why you think the young rappers running this rap shit, and I told my homie man the rap game changed. Yeah we started young, but we got understand the rap game changed from Lil Wayne to NBA Young Boy.

I believe for the most part if you're a rapper that's chasing the "young & reckless" demographic who's mostly concerned with partying and having fun it is possible to win in that realm like 2 Chainz did but it will be a big fight and may look a little off due to you trying to keep up with a younger mindset as trends & the world changes. That demographic is best suitable for younger rappers but if you're an older rapper that's rapping with substance or real lyrical ability more like a Ransom, Griselda, RJ Payne ETC people won't give a fuck if you was 100 years old because in that world of Hip Hop is where age has never and will never matter. That's where "Skills Over Politics" lives forever. The most a hater can say at that point is "yeah that nigga damn near old as planet earth itself but he can outrap damn near everybody on planet earth too"

@CurtissKingTV Ridiculous. I’ve never heard this conversation thrown around in any other genre besides hip-hop. I live in Nashville, TN, and every year there is a new country artist that is blowing up and they’re all above 30-50. It’s sad that my people love to clip wings before you can fly. Shameful man. If you’re over 40, keep pushing. 8 billion people on this planet and millions of them feel just like you do. P&L

Imagine believing that Gillie Da Kid is 39. Look at Saint jhn and look at gillie da kid. Supposedly only 2 years apart, Gillie like most artists in the industry is lying about his age.

I think society puts to much emphasis on age for certain things. I feel any hobby or passion you enjoy as long as your not infringing on other people’s rights can and should be enjoyed regardless of age! Life is too short not too!! 💯💪🏾

I think this is the problem. Rap music has to grow up, Older artists have a more grown-up game to give. This is why the youngster can't grow either.. Cause the music still young. And capped at a age group

Also, because we have the ability to put our on music out I feel that anybody has the ability to be a part of whatever music entity they want. Pete and Bas have set the example in my opinion for setting the tone. It is what it is.

When you think about it, older rappers are a lot better story tellers because they have more to speak on; they can take the art to a higher level. If you on some "up in the club" type ish and you're in your late 40s, then yeah put the mic down.
