    Great tip on descending by simply pulling back the throttle. You don’t have to re-trim, your airspeed and EGTs remain constant and when you approach your desired altitude you just creep that power back in. Minimal workload which is great for a single pilot. Thank you very much.

    The Lance is a solid cross country plane. Perhaps forgotten at times but soon reminded of the quality of this machine. Thanks.

    Thanks you two. Double thumbs up if I could. When I was in jr high my dad and his airplane owning partner bought a brand new Lance, after owning a Cessna 175 and 182. The Lance was the “Family Truckster”. Lots of room with good load flexibility. It was quieter than most singles with the prop way out front of the forward baggage compartment. And roomy - viewers should notice the space between you and Alex.
    I was big enough when we had that plane that my dad would let me fly in the left seat. It was first plane I landed by myself when I was 14.
    Ours apparently came from the same batch of Piper sequential tail numbers. Ours was N38352.

    I own a T-tail Lance and the more I fly it the more I love it. Hauls a solid 850lb payload and @ 65% power setting it’s usually getting 150Kts while burning 16 GPH. This plane goes just fast enough, sips the gas, and hauls a load in club seating comfort. For me and my family, you can’t get any better for the price of acquisition and cost of maintenance! Love it more and more.

    Great to hear him mention the good old RAF Chipmunk, I managed to get a transfer when in the British Army to the army air corps, they only fly rotary but strangely you start the course getting about 30 hours in the Chipmunk, before you go on to rotary training in the Gazelle, if u don’t solo by 30 hours u get binned. It was a crazy old aircraft but fully aerobatic, they started with a cartridge charge n then smoke everywhere n ur good. The seats were just a metal bucket n your seat cushion was actually your parachute which you sat on, the chutes were very awkward n u couldn’t stand up straight with them on so u looked like a right dick. Luckily I passed & flew the Gazelle, then the Lynx. Great times.

    I just put my 1980 Saratoga (turbo version) on the market. Pretty much the same airplane except for the turbocharger. I’ve owned it for 19 years and it’s been a wonderful airplane that I’ve had all over the Country. Edited to add: N8409Y was sold to a doctor from Virginia and taken from Long Beach to the East Coast. I'm wistful, so many good years and great trips in that airplane.

    Thanks Chris & Alex for letting us ride along on that flight! We enjoyed it. Chris can you explain that 500 ft cruise decent again as it relates to doing it with retarding the throttle? I have a Cherokee 180 I fly and I would be interested on how that works again if you can instead of pulling throttle back & adjusting attitude & trim. Thanks. Don/NE Ohio

    • @dlouque
      @dlouque 4 роки тому

      I'll chime in for now, a low wing plane when you set your trim, it maintains that speed so when you reduce power or add power, and the standard rule of thumb is 5" reduction in MP, or 500 rpm with a fixed prop equals 500 fpm. A low wing will always seek its trimmed airspeed. In a high wing the speed changes several knots and requires re-trim if you want to maintain that airspeed. For example in my 172, when I'm in the pattern at 80. I reduce power 500 rpm and trim down 3 strokes of the trim wheel to maintain 80 on descent.

    Go for the airlines “Young man”, once your in the major airlines you can fly what you want on your days off. Just because your FI worked for Republic airlines, enough said. Don’t count out the airlines you’ll be SORRY later in life. It’s the best job in the long run. I know. 35 years at the majors, 5 years Corporate, 1 year in the regionals and 4 years night freight. 44 years of flying for a living and the last 35 years the best. Stayed active in GA the whole time(s). Don’t limit yourself! I mentor the new pilots all the time. Go for the gold my friend.

    I guess there are aircraft out there that still use fuel nozzles or carbs. I would think most aircraft since the 70’s use electronic fuel injection. Is this a poor assumption. Not attempting to be snarky. It’s a serious question.

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  3 роки тому +1

      It’s a mix of carburetors and fuel injection. Just depends on the aircraft.

    He’s kidding himself. Airline is where it’s at, especially a major or legacy. Corporate sucks, especially when an owner sells or wants to fly every holiday. He’ll have so many days off and so much money to go and do what he wants on his days off at a real airline. Republic isn’t it.
