I bought this 1998 Mitsubishi Diamante from the Oklahoma State Surplus Auction for $402.01. After putting in some work I've got it cleaned up and ready to live again, but I wanted to try some mechanic in a bottle fixes to stop the oil leak and bring the power steering back to life. After pouring those in Randy from @AutoAuctionRebuilds showed up. We took it out for it's first real drive, and he bought it to take back to Oklahoma so he can keep working on it.

Mitsubishi got me with the double sided center console... I love stuff like that!! 😍
It was ahead of it’s time
Ok it's time for a car repair video, a fixer upper. I have a Honda Element...
It makes sense since this car was sold in right-hand driving countries too. The same part works in either configuration.
@@znogaragego3421 Not just sold but MADE in a right-hand drive country, and it was not Japan. These cars were exported to Japan.

Wish it was a longer series with the Diamante, but hey .... the two you tube video probably already made more than what you paid for the car. Keep the junk cars coming, its enjoyable to see them get cleaned and fixed.
Yes it is fixing the old car's.
Randy is the stop leak king! Especially head gasket
Because he can't be bothered to fix things correctly?
Funny how he says I’ve never tried it. He’s the shadiest of them all.
Randy is a total scam
@@braaapattack2937 maybe but I enjoy aar
I had an older Chrysler T&C that had some massive oil leaks. Took it into the shop and they were able to fix a lot of them, but they told me that if it started leaking again (which it did) to buy a good bottle of oil stop leak and try it. Did that and the van ran like a champ for another 40K miles until someone rear ended us, and the van wasn't worth the estimates for repairs, so the stuff does work. Also did somewhat the same thing for an Explorer that had the expensive ($4k) leaking head gasket - used the treatment recommended by the shop and it was still running a year later with no coolant leak.
Oh No not Repeat Randy from Auto Auction Repeat. Just be careful he has screwed every other youtuber he has worked with.
Amen
Yes sir he has. Weird Beard got so tired of his bs he apparently threatened to whoop his ass so then ol Randy made sure to start posting picks of his new Taurus 9mill. So not only is he shady af he's a puss too. I used to be a fan... not so much anymore.

The diametes were cool cars in there day. In 1998 My 1st car was a 96 galant. My mom went with me to buy it. It was the first time we brought a car from the dealer. I loved that car and tricked it out with led lights, 17 inch chrome rims, a pioneer system, sub and amps. Wish I could go back in time. You should keep it.
Had a 2004 Diamante many years ago...great car. Side note, Kia was building the 3.5 mitsubishi engine 7+ years ago...I have a Sorento with it now, super smooth and puts out 276 horsepower now...
These things are notorious for rocker cover gasket leaks, I’ve owned 6 Magnas (Diamante to the US viewers) and all of them have had that issue. One thing people forget is to reshape the covers to make the gasket fit snug so it doesn’t leak again. Also the metal is very thin on them so the bolts are 3.5nm or just snug. Radiator top and bottom tanks are brittle plastic and crack, the 4spd auto is pretty good (except the wavespring which wasn’t updated until 04) but these motors do not die. A mate of mine ram one with no coolant for a decent chunk of time, topped it back up, and it ran like nothing even happened. Still going strong 2yrs later too…
The 6G family 72 74 and 75 are amazing engines. Chuck a 6G75, and a manual box in a Diamante and it’s a ridiculously torquey car (220hp at the front wheels with that setup).
These have a massive following down under, and the Japanese ones have so many toys it’s not even funny (multi link suspension, radar cruise control to name a few)
Loving the content mate, and can’t wait to see what Randy does with it.
If either of you are down under anytime soon I’d love to show you around our barren Little Rock.
Can’t wait to build my 2004 fusion orange AWD one and put an Evo 8MR manual box, sprintex supercharger and 6G75 in. Maybe I should do a YT build series on it 🙊
Side note: us Aussies didn’t get the centre console lid with those slide out cup holders. Superrrr jealous of it 🙊
Also from Oz. Had a 2004 AWD from new for 10 years till someone ran into it @80KM/H. I was fine.
BTW, great car! AWD insanely grippy. Especially with 245/17inch tyres
@@peterfey9921 glad to hear you were okay from that one. Must’ve been a traumatic experience! I’m reassembling mine as we speak, have just done rocker cover gaskets, tube seals, leads, dizzy cap and rotor button (notorious maintenance items on these things as you’d know). Really clean car otherwise, the rare leather interior, sunroof, kms are at 180,000 and it’s been really well looked after for the most part.
The HM Headers I’ve got laying around will be installed soon, im making up a custom Magnaflow exhaust for it too. Will need to install Evo x bilsteins once I mod them to fit 👀
Picking up the supercharger in the next few weeks when things really pick up the pace… Evo X BBS and some Brembos are next on the list.
@@timdiskodisken6241 Good to hear you're keeping yours at it's best! Mine was also. Even tho it was as new inside, I'd sourced NOS genuine leather interior and had just finished installing that and a bunch of other things when it was rear ended. I absolutely LOVE JR's unbridled enthusiasm for his beater cars~!
As soon as you mentioned Randy, I knew this wasn't worth watching
I used this stuff called AT-205 stop leak for everything. Got it on Amazon a few years ago. I wanted to stop the leaking of my power steering pump on my Subaru. The stuff is still working !
Scotty approved.
Interesting how he refers to Randy as a “dealer,” but I would have thought the number of flips JR does that Kansas would require him to be a dealer as well. Now I am curiouser.
I think it has something to do with state’s requirements on selling a vehicle bought from salvage auctions lol Randy pretty much lives at the auction yard
@@zackatron925 The Kansas State DOR web site simply says that a dealer needs a license and says “A vehicle dealer constitutes a person who purchases a vehicle with the intent to sell for a profit, or sells 5 or more vehicles within a calendar year.”
Randy got in trouble for selling too many cars in OK. He had to get a dealers license if he wanted to keep his youtube channel going.
I know each state has different rules on how many cars you can sell in a year. In my state, I can only sell 2 cars before I am required to get a dealers license.
Unfortunately, JR is at the age where he labours under the delusion his success affords him a level of 'invincibility'........then the city/state get their hooks into you and it ends in tears.
Where I live you have to pay sales taxes if you buy a car. Sell it a week later and the next owner has to pay taxes again. Having a dealer license gets you out of paying sales taxes.
"no. I've never put stop leak in any of my cars....." There for a split second I almost believed him ;-) Randy will have fun with that DSM - it's the content that keeps on giving! best of luck!
It's not a DSM since it was built in Australia not normal illnois

@@MrMikeyBBrooks love ya Mike. Would’ve been great if you got a mention
Tried the main seal repair goop on my Neon and it didn't work, BUT when I took it to a trustworthy local shop and he thought it was the oil pan but when he tore it apart the rear main barely was still in and fell out. It would use a full quart in 5 miles and every time I stopped it would leave a puddle. I didn't even have to really change the oil after it was fixed as it just threw it all out as I drove it and topped it off. It did have about 170k at that point and a collapsed hose on the pcv system so was probably the high miles and a pressurized block.
You guys together are a riot!!!! I would be laughing my ass off I worked there!

A perfect "teenager's first car"! I wish I could have found something like that for my children's first car!
My youngest brother's first car was a 2002 Diamante. It was a really nice car until the transmission went out after a few years. He got his money's worth out of it for sure though. He still talks about how much he misses that car to this day.
True dat. My youngest nearly ruined the car we got for him -- always curbing the wheels, backed into a parking lot post a couple times at school. Kids who are not into cars are rough on cars. No need to get them something nice.
@@97I30Ti've had a burnt copper-red ex-rental 6/2003 TL Diamante Wagon for the last thirteen and a half years now and don't want to change it for anything else, so nicely it drives on the open road, and it's just as quick as a Beemer 330Ci. Mind you the engine has undergone a few Ralliart Plus changes, but is still normally aspirated. The Mitsi 6G74 engine is a marvel of engineering in my opinion. Hiya, back in the day STP sold engine oil leak stopper/ engine improvers, was as thick as treacle or runny honey but it worked, but, an old LANDROVER tip before they came full of modern cr^p electrickery was add some old style brake fluid into the power steering tank and IT STOPPED the fluid leaking by swelling all the oil seals..Worked on my old 1991 Discovery 200 DTi turbo diesel.. Thanks for the video -- Ian --UK.
400 comments and over 80 of them basically say Randy sucks, that has to be some sort of record.
The Blue Devil oil stop leak works - swelled up the gaskets in our 130,000 mile Chrysler van enough to stop a leak that was losing a half quart a month. Garage wanted 1100 to replace the intake and manifold gaskets.
Can’t believe you didn’t introduce monkey wrench Mike!
Always great seeing Monkey Wrench Mike out there 🙂 One of the big Mercedes UA-camrs

I just added a bottle of AT-205 in my 2009 Ford Escape V6 with 165,000 miles because I have a small drip from the timing cover and oil pan.
Fingers crossed and I hope it works because it's at least a six-hour job to repair.
Tried stop leak as a temporary fix for a leaky steering rack in my youngest's car. A few days later, the seals blew out both ends. Left two trails of power steering fluid up the driveway pulling it in. I never trusted stop leak before, and this is why I won't pour that rubbish into any of my cars in the future. And fingers are crossed that rubbish didn't harm anything else in the system. (A year and a half later, no further issues.)
AT205 is the only stuff that's worked for me. I mostly use it on auto transmissions but I've heard of people using for power steering too.
They aren’t all bad. Lucas makes good stop leak products. Plus the metal shavings for the coolant will actually stop coolant leaks but I’d only use it on hoopties.
Berryman transmission and power steering sealer saved my 2004 Nissan Murano from a trip to the junk yard. It`s been a year and still no leaks. Everyone will not have the same results, but that is mine with this product.
I love that 7.3 noise. Best diesel sound!

Shine On You Crazy Diamante. Yes. I caught the Pink Floyd reference to Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Excellent.
I put stop leak in our 02 LeSabre power steering pump and it literally shelled the pump, scorched the pulley bearing and it got so hot it was glowing red and smoking, was pretty worried bout the car going up in flames, not to mention it heat warped the serpentine belt ad well, thank goodness I had an extra belt cause it snapped twenty miles from my home, and I was able to limp the car home
I had a 1987 Plymouth Grand Fury back in the 90s that had a heavy radiator leak 20 miles from home. A bottle of Bars Leak and that radiator went to the scrapper a couple of years later with the car. No more leaks, no problems. And no more car either. 😜. But as always, your mileage may vary. I lucked out.
You got a point there. Maybe it is better to buy an old car than rent a car. Last time I check, one day rental was like $300 in November. It’s insane. People end up renting trucks at Home Depot.
I had an 04 Diamante that was one of my favorite cars. It was in awesome shape and I drove it a few years but parts were getting tough to get so I sold it while it was still worth something.
Get in there, Mike. Don't be shy.

Cool to see Monkey Wrench Mike in the back ground.
I worked for MMMA in the early 90s. The TAs (engineers from Japan) would tell me how excited they were for this car. They told me that they worked closely with the BMW 7 series to develop it. Back then, Mitsubishi was flush with cash and really had an engineering approach to developing their cars. The sex scandal is what really broke this company and you can see the affects of it in their later cars.

He can send it to auction where a it can be sold to the public. He can not sell directly to the public as you stated.
A wholesaler is still a dealer. He's just limited in who he can sell to. He uses IAA so the public can buy the cars because his license allows selling at an auction.
