I Found BULLETS And BASEBALL CARDS Cleaning My $400 Mitsubishi Diamante

- I was watching a government auction when I came across this Mitsubishi Diamante that had no bids. I quickly bid it up to $300 and got into a bit of a bidding war that pushed it up to $400. That's how I won this 1998 Diamante that's looking pretty rough. This car is hanging on for dear life with a trashed interior and broken windows, but we're going to throw it a lifeline. I started by cleaning up the giant mess and finding a few cool things that were long forgotten.

I get so much more into these than the high-dollar supercar ones. Thanks man, always enjoy the videos 😎
Agreed! Stay on-brand with these saves, flips and rescues in 2022 pls 💯👏

I bought a 1982 BMW 528 back in 1998, who ever had it was a very heavy smoker. I was in the process of completely stripping the interior to clean it, I removed the passenger seat and stuck between the console and seat track there was a diamond ring. It was dirty and covered in a sticky substance and it really didn't look real, I stuck it in my tool box drawer and forgot about it. I found it a few years later when I traded my toolbox in and brought it home and cleaned it up, I took it to a buddy that owns a pawn shop and he tested it and said it was worth about $3,000.00........four years later I gave it to my wife as an engagement ring and she still wears it to this day.
I have a similar story except i was cleaning a car we bought from auction years ago and found a diamond earrings in it. I still haven't went to the pawn shop to have it tested but probably should after reading your comment. 😅
@@jonnyboy9141 I think the appropriate word for checking the value of rings/earrings or any kind of jewelry is appraised/to appraise.
@@jonnyboy9141 dont use pawnshops they just want to rip you off. Use a jewelry appraiser
You better hope your wife never hears that story.

I absolutely love the fact that you’re saving this car! Most people would think it’s worthless junk but I love it! I drive a Dodge Intrepid and some people don’t like it or don’t know what it is or that it even exists. Honestly I kinda forgot about the this car and it’s cool to see one.
iirc the intrepid is a good car if you dont get the 2.4L V6
Intreped is an interesting car. Very comfortable ride. When i met my wife she had one with a slipping transmission. Otherwise a nice driving car. Very intetesting view out of that vehicle. I think your car is cool and glad you are keeping one going.
@@randomchannel9331 Intrepids never came with a 2.4.
@@randomchannel9331 I think you mean the 2.7L V6
@@bmh67wa my bad I meant the 2.7 V6
Well I think you got your money back in those baseball cards. Al Downing in good condition is like $300, mint is $2k. The golden babe Ruth is 10 bucks. The rest could be all $20 - $200 cards. You could sell them all for more then a $1000 depending on condition of course.
Wow!
Unless I'm missing a detail, the 1962 Al Downing cards are $5-10 on ebay.
I bought my 7th gen Accord from its original owner. The stock, in-dash CD changer had stopped working years prior, but he mentioned there were a couple of kids' music CDs stuck in the carriage. Well, I replaced the changer mechanism with a refurbished one (don't like broken stuff) and removed the CDs from the broken unit. I gave the CDs back to him, and he couldn't have been happier, as it reminded him of when his kids were little. Glovebox was full of straws from fast-food joints, which I left, because who has ever been shorted a straw from the drive-thru? Good thinkin' on his part.
Every vehicle has a story. This is fun content for anyone that's bought a used vehicle.
I am in Australia and we used to have this car. Is not the Magna. This version is the Verada :) we used to have it in Emerald Green the best v6 car we had. Smooth power train. The successor was the Mitsubishi 380.
Magna/Verada/diamante are the same car.
My Uncle that recently passed away was “Buster the Babe”. He was officially licensed to be Babe Ruth. That card would be great in my collection. I’d buy it from you for what ever you want for it.
Shoot me an email 🍻
@@WatchJRGo sent! Thank you!!
3:25 it’s a DOD vehicle access sticker. The seal is the Department of defense seal. The number is the month and year of the access expiration date. The bottom sticker was the base name where the vehicle was registered. The background color of the lower sticker would correspond to the branch. Green was ARMY, Blue Air Force, white was navy, Red was national Guard. The stickers were eliminated around 2010.
When I was in, red was Enlisted, blue was Officer, green was Dept of the Army Civilian. The Air Force occasionally used a yellow to denote NCO. Black/white was contractor but those were very rare.
In the case of this Diamante, it was a Fort Leonard Wood (Army) sticker that has long-since faded out.
that was a Fort Leonard wood decal from the training base in eastern Missouri, went through basic and AIT training there.
6:08 Those are 1962 Topps baseball cards. Those cards might be worth a few bucks even in beat up condition.
Edit: After watching all the way to the end, the ones with white borders are 1959 Topps.
Can't wait to make this video with the Ranger.
It's the CSI Wichita content we're all waiting for!
02:25 The black soot around the gas cap door makes me wonder if there is a leak in the evap system somewhere, or even just a bad gas cap.
Mitsubishi Verada's are still on Aussie roads in reasonable numbers. They were well made and sold in big numbers in the day and were virtually bullet proof mechanically.... Paint was a weakness. My neighbour still has a Gold one! Was a big car by Australian standards..... Obviously not to Americans!! BTW.... Where's Gabe?
They weren’t sold in big numbers mate. Even the AU Forte outsold every Verada variant, just like the AU range outsold the TF Magna range. The VT Commodore outsold them both by a country mile.
As someone who is ocd there is nothing more enjoyable then watching you clean a car lol
Last flip car I bought had a knife, Van Halen cd, tons of loose unused cigarettes and like 10 empty packs of stay hard. Good times
That sounds like a slew of interesting stories from the previous owner. Haha
Sounds like an American car .... Sta hard GM or Ford,,!
It is a Verda here in Australia which is just the high spec Magna .. good old Aussie built Mitsi
Mitsubishi verada, you can beat on them they'll still come back to life with a little tlc give it some love John Ross...........happy holidays.
That's a 1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth, $500,000 in mint condition.
1959 Topps Marv Throneberry: $210
1962 Topps Al Downing : $2100
1959 Topps Norm Siebern :$210
1959 Topps Gil McDougald :$425
1959 Topps Johnny Kucks :$110
$10 for all of them at the local card shop.
Love these kind of projects, saving cars that would be forgotten about. Be great to see more projects like this! Life isn’t all about Lambos and Ferrari’s
These are the videos I find myself watching more and more. Something about older cars getting that first wash in years and being made presentable so someone can enjoy it again!
Put the grille back in, replace the door glass, give the interior a quick detail and throw some seat covers on it and I'm sure someone would pay over $1k for it
over 1000? In DFW right now it's easily over 3k
Maybe pull out those LEDs and fix the stereo bezel too
And the exhaust leak
I would just get that bottom seat portion reupholstered or if a cheap used one is available that may be the way to go
2k car all day no questions asked once it’s fully detailed and in usable order
I reeeally want one of these. I think they look really good, especially the front end
Man, the power washing is soooo satisfying. I could watch dirt being blasted off cars all day!
Had a friend that had a Diamonte for almost 20 years. He loved that car, I sent him a link to this video, and hopefully we will get you closer to 1million subs.
I bought one of these on eBay probably 15 years ago. I was the ONLY bidder and it was a half mile from my shop. I think less then 300. I drove by it every day and never even gave it a thought. I guess his kid got into the dash and doors pretty good "trying" to install a stereo and then nothing would happen when you turn the key. It took me about an hour to determine the security system was the culprit due to a driver door lock cylinder not connected. The driver seat didn't move, black interior was kinda beat but I was gonna use it as a work beater and leave my new car home in the garage. I put a timing belt on it and did the fluids.
Then wound up assuming the payment on a 2006 Taurus my girlfriend (now ex) bought. I think I quadrupled my money and sold it because somebody needed an engine for a 3000GT. They drove it away.
I'm glad you feel it was a deluxe automobile. Idk anything about the Diamante. However, I once had a Gallant insurance rental, also in white. Living in the burbs of the motor city, that Gallant's only redeeming feature was that it made for a cheap rental fleet. It must have been a base model bc it had nothing great about it. Around here, there was no reason for anyone to purchase one. It was cheap; noisy, no insulation. It got us around while my ride was being repaired, but it went back the minute mine was done. Just awful.
Bullets And Baseball Cards. The MOST 'Mericun sounding country album of all time.
Used to be a Mitsubishi dealer on my town growing up. Saw lots of these. I remember them advertising "a 4 with the power of a 6, and a 6 with the power of an 8." You should find a GSX. Those were hot cars.
The fours had about the same power as a four cylinder Camry and the V6 wasn’t much more powerful than the V6 in a Commodore.
That ammo is worth its weight in gold right now.
Especially here in Commyfornia
@@schutzhund3933 ouch I bet. Here in GA were a little better off. Nothing like living in the country with a small range in your backyard
Hey John, that gold Babe Ruth card is quite valuable. You need to check with collectors and probably give you a good idea.
On another note, this Diamante is a throwback on how Mitsubishi used to be. Sadly, Mitsubishi parts are so hard to get nowadays.
Dear JR, please suggest to the car trek people, the next perfect American garage - a fishing car, a bong mobile, a trailer hauling pick up, a taking stuff to the dump car, a totally broken but will be valuable one day car and a daily driver. Please use your expertise in these matters to propose a budget, not inclusive of cleaning. A bonus 'modified to perfection chickbait' (then sat idle for four years) vehicle to be gifted to each of the gallant threesome to take to the mall and cruise for some action.
Thank you so much for using different montage/time lapse music! I know it's a small detail but those things can drive one crazy lol! You used that same song in the video (2nd one) but you broke it up with the 1st.. Happy holidays!
It’s a pity, that it won’t be a new project, such as Saab. It’s a really cool car though with a bunch of cool features! Maybe John will change his mind and do interior, electrics and other stuff making this car a flying jet again?)
I think this was an old military recruiter vehicle that they would use to drive around to schools and stuff. But I'm also pretty sure it got stolen at some point which is why it was dusted for prints around the gas lid.
Nope
In AU this will be the Verada .
car has a better chance with you then it does with the guy who wants it
Run far away from that guy
Stay tuned!
I used to subscribe to his page.
Randy isn't a good person and is rude his subscribers.
@@Brianfightingmad Merry Christmas 🎁🎄
A good Weird Beard project. And yes run Forest run.
Merry Christmas John Ross. 🎄
If you look under the bonnet, you’ll find it was built by Mitsubishi Australia in Adelaide. That makes it not only a Magna, but a rebadged version of the top of the range Verada.
I think the Air Force used to put year stickers by their DOD decal. And the lower decal would have been the base/post. It almost looks like the last 4 letters are WOOD
Whatever doesn’t get done by you JR won’t get done by Randy. He doesn’t fix anything, he does like paying people to fix stuff and then take credit for it, works out for the other guys though so whatever I guess. I would hate to see the bodily injury he would cause himself if he ever picked a wrench up, guarantee he’d lose an eye.
I’ll be sure to throw a wrench through the windshield just for you :)
The paintwork cleaned up a lot better than I expected!
Feels like you have gone back to your roots buying cheap cars and fixing them. To be honest I prefer when you do this than the expensive vehicles you buy. Hope you keep doing these ones 👍👍
Let's give it up for JR, working ON CHRISTMAS polishing a turd for our entertainment!
It’s such a cool car from the days when Mitsubishi made great cars, these were such a great car, it’s a shame not enough people knew this.
In Australia some people actually race these on track against v8’s with great success
I remember renting a '98 Diamante back in '98. A very nice car for the time, Mitsubishi still had a good reputation back then.
I always thought the Diamante was one of the nicest overlooked cars of the era.
If anything, those baseball cards, mainly the Babe Ruth one could be a cool wall decoration. You definitely got the wall space. You should definitely start thinking about throwin up little trophies like that from all the cars and whatnot that come through your shop. CAr emblems, center caps, hub caps, you know just the kinda rare, interesting things and stuff maybe with a bit of a story. Who knows, maybe another same model vehicle will make it's way in there and you'll have that piece you need. Not saying you should save every piece of trash either. If it's trash then just trash it.
Great idea, hope JR takes you up on the suggestion
Amazing the difference cleaning it makes.
Had black stuff like that around the fuel filler door. Worked in a lab, so swabbed it. Mould.
Hey JR I have a 2011 Mazda 6 that runs perfectly fine just need cosmetic work done. Hood, quarter panel, bumper. Do you think it’s worth fixing? Do you have any good info on these cars?
Love Randy's channel, but don't sell it to him. Since it doesn't need a Maaco paint job, it'll go directly to copart. Absolutely love the obscure cars being brought back to life.
I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante I owned for 15 years I’m restoring so glad there saving this one and idea where to get a dash bezel
It's actually white after all! Merry Christmas JR!!
I had a Diamanté when I lived in Hawaii. Loved the car. So fast and luxurious
looks like a real Diamante in the rough!!!🤣
Used to really like these when I would see them on the road - kind of a different take on the BMW sedans of that era.
Here in Iraq this Mitsubishi was famous
Merry Christmas to you and all of your subscribers from me a police officer here in Iraq 🎄⛄☃️🎄
I had a thought about the seat that you cannot find any seats at the junk yard. maybe you could get it reupholster from a local place, just a thought for you.
Hope this helps
Vehicle was probably abandoned in a different city, and that is why they had it at a gov auction. possibly siezed
Looks like the gold Babe Ruth card has sold for $0.99 - $75 on eBay. Take them by a local card shop, if there is one, and see if they have any value. You never know.
You need a museum of stuff you found in cars.
Really like styling of this car 👍
Looks so good just after washing.
Merry Christmas! All the dirt had totally hid the side swipe/scrape, at least on video for me... But hey, it's got no obvious mold unlike Jake's new truck, and you had a trailer for retrieval anyway...
I'm addicted to your uploads 😂. It's like my daily routine now, wake up, watch a JR video and then start the day. Good work man!
Glad you're here! 🍻

I was thinking maybe a little shadow box. Golden baseball card, golden ratchet. You get the theme. These are comfy cruisers.
Looks like you're getting ready for Car Trek: Wichita Edition
1962 baseball cards probably have some value.
There probably is a parts car in a you pick yard somewhere nobody has touched, you'd have to hit up their websites to check in places where you know people who could go pick the parts.
"Diamante" means diamonds and they come from compressed coal, and coal is what Santa brings to those who ignore Christmas on their videos.....Happy Christmas JR.
Sold prices on ebay for the cards is $5 each in general. Some sales are higher. Sieburn and McDougal were a little lower.
I was waiting for someone to comment on the prices.
Marvelous Marv! 😄
I removed a hardwired Motorola phone from a 90's Honda Accord. I removed the phone system, because it was for her teenage daughter.
You need to get a Mexican Cartel car. I saw a show, where the Marshal's arrested a member in an Audi. The driver showed them the procedure on how to open the back seat using various items on the dash. Hidden in the back seat was guns & drugs. No cash! =(
J.R., have you considered Katskinz seat covers? Leather/vinyl replacement covers. Hard to distinguish from factory.
A quick search of two of those cards. The Thorneberry isn't even 20 bucks in pristine condition. The Al Downing though, in that condition, ya might get 5-20 bucks (depending on how bad someone wanted it of course). If it was in perfect condition, they are valued over 2 grand atm. The Ruth card was part of a set from Danbury. Goes for 20-25 bucks.
These were really nice cars when new. Just expensive to fix when out of warranty.
Such a satisfying wash! Even though we didn't get to watch it in detail you could still see the transformation 😁
Maybe take that drivers seat bottom to an upholstery shop and see how close they can match the materials?!!!
Merry Christmas. 🎁🎄
My '00 Silverado had a Papa Roach CD and a note containing the number for a chemical dependency counselor
I found a bunch of tan leather power seats in my area with a 5min search. I know you're just passing it along but at least the next guy will be able to find a seat if he goes that route. I had a silver with black interior as a loaner and it was an OK car.
Merry Christmas JR , and all your buddies .
There are hundreds of thousands of these in Australia , New Zealand, and other RHD countries. They are awesome
Those older Topps are 1962. There might be something good in those cards. The Babe Ruth might be a 22k gold card from early 90s. I recognize it, but cannot remember the maker of it.
JR needs an AU Falcon
Then he’d turn into @HubNut
I love the frameless windows. My favorite thing about that car
I mean… a window, a patch on the exhaust, seatcovers, glue the mirror back in and someone can drive an ok car for under $1000 😎
Wow what a great project!! I really enjoy this kind of videos!! 🇦🇷
That military sticker looks like Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.
Thank you for giving this car back some of its dignity. Lasting shame to the slob who did this. Please throw away that lame steering wheel cover. Keep up the great work!
I’ll never understand how people let their cars get this disgusting. The worst one I ever had was a Ford pickup that I put 170,000 miles on. I was doing a lot of roofing and construction then so the driver seat was a few shades blacker than the rest but I’ve NEVER had a vehicle this gross.
It's too bad you only do profitable car flips, but I understand the Diamante is a cash killer. Would be cool to see it restored to restomod condition though. Maybe another one after you have your ducks in a row?
I always thought this was the most GTA-ish real life car. Just something about the angles.
Blue LEDs in the dashboard.....the sign of someone who has no idea how human eyes work in dark conditions.
I had an even older one years ago and absolutely loved it. I paid $400 for it too. Nice find man.
With those Volvo looking tail lights if you took off the diamanté and Mitsubishi tags it could look like a Volvo.
Thank you for saving this car. It is a great car, if given a chance,
The sticker is and old DOD (department of defense) sticker. Looks like it was from Fort Leonard Wood (skinny small sticker).
We use to have those on our vehicles. We had to register our cars on base anytime we moved to a new duty ststion.
This must have been someone's personal car and somehow the auction got it.
I'm glad you decided to fix It. It's not so special but still. Good luck JR and Merry Christmas.
Nice Mitsubishi Magna🇦🇺
That was probably someone’s pride and joy like 10-15 years ago
Seriously Jon , such cars deserve the Junkyard .
Always amazes me how clean you can get things.
Good test car when the crusher fires up.
@730, maybe he had the blue dash leds to see his guages at night, either because the guage lights didnt work or they could drive with no lights on and still see the guages - stealth mode
