My 14 year old chi went in for dental cleaning and his blood work showed high liver enzymes. We gave him Demarin.. for a few months then 6 months later he had to have a tooth pulled and again his liver enzymes went up just a bit. We decided to get CT scan of liver and discovered he had a small tumor on his liver. We were told that the tumor is in a place where it would be possibly fatal to remove it. I did not do biopsy because I was in to deep financially. If it’s cancer then we have a year, if it’s and old dog tumor he will be fine. It’s been 7 months and he is doing fine. No symptoms of liver failure. He still gets demarin. I don’t know what the future holds for our baby boy but we will enjoy every day we have and live with him in the now. Oh and now he is losing his sight.

Just had a oncology surgery consult for my almost 11 yr old Dachshund. She has a 6x4 cm liver mass between her gallbladder and diaphragm. Vet surgeon referred us to UF small animal hospital about 2 hrs from our home for surgery. This surgeon felt due to the size and location and potential bleeding you can already expect from the liver that a specialized team would be best to tackle it. Our dog has no symptoms or changes in her quality of life. The only way we found out was her blood work elevations in the 3k’s for her liver enzymes. Now we pray and ponder what is the best course of action for her. What would you suggest?

My dog has liver nodules. This is helping me to decide what to do with little money.

My dog has a mass in her liver, near her gallbladder. It's 8 cm but has not metastasized. I have already spent about 4k on ultrasounds, CT scan, consultations, etc. She can have surgery but it will be invasive and risky....not to mention it will be between $12K to $14K. I don't know what to do. She is 13 but still full of life. Tough decision.

What conservative treatment did they indicate? and how often should the patient be evaluated?

An 11yr old pug with a diagnosed 5cm tumour in the centre of her liver, is it likely this is operable and recoverable?

Unfortunately once they have acquired shunts, surgery is not possible. It is just a matter of medical management for palliation of clinical signs.

Yes, we can, but I was concerned about leaving enough functional liver.
