I can't praise anymore this orchestra and specially Mr. Estrada because I'm out of superlatives. I have heard (seen) most of the recordings they made and I am always astonished with the beauty and perfection of each one. I've heard this piece more than a hundred times in my life but never with such atention to detail, such working with the dynamic relations, timing, and everything that brings this piece so much alive and emotional. Hope for a very long career to this orchestra and specially Mr.Estrada who is, in my view, a godsend to the art of music.
So glad I found this. The Symphonic Dances is one of my all time favorite works and I'm a huge fan of Andres Orozco-Estrada. He is a master conductor. You can feel his passion but unlike so many modern conductors, he doesn't make it all about HIM.

I love Rachmaninoff and have listened to almost all of his music. I can't say this is better or that is better but what I can say is they are all brilliant! What a wonderful concert, a fabulous orchestra and a very charismatic and intelligent conductor!
Beautifully sensitive performance of a tonal tapestry of multi-emotions. For me, one of Rachmaninoff's very best compositions. What a stimulating performance! Bravo! Bravo!
You lucky people in Frankfurt -- what a marvelous performance, the orchestra sounds marvelous, and the young maestro gets this powerful set of dances just right. Ich kann nur staunen, und danken, danken, DANKEN!!
It’s a joy to see Orosco-Estrada conducting, he really dances the music with all his fibres. And the orchestra responds so beautifully. He’s putting a spell not only on the orchestra but also on me, the listener. Bravissimo!
What fun it is to watch this pro orchestra play Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances, which I've heard in recordings for years and years. Yes, I enjoy hearing the work played well, as it is here, but to SEE the orchestra play it is a rare treat!
A great masterpiece of the 20th Century....the saxophone is not only perfect for that incredible solo...it is one of those once ever or one off things that can hardly be repeated. I LOVE the "haunted waltz" that is the second movement...
I never, ever, expected to hear a performance of The Symphonic Dances as good as the one recorded by Kirill Kondrashin (with the Moscow Philharmonic) but this . . . this exceeds it. My thanks and my congratulations to all those who made it possible.

Ultra-Romantic, atmospheric, energetic, dramatic, and exciting, this is one of Rachmaninoff's finest works, and with his three symphonies constitutes a high point in Russian orchestral literature - masterpieces all. This is a somewhat puzzling interpretation however; after a sprightly opening movement and normally-paced 'andante', it seems to lose momentum in the finale with a slackening of tempo that allows the listener's interest to wane somewhat. I've heard and enjoyed a few of Orozco-Estrada's FRSO efforts on YT, but he can be surprising in his approach to the music. I do get the impression that he considers each composer and style on an individual basis, which is a definite plus, and a quality some conductors don't have.
There has been discussion about whether the beautiful saxophone solo was a tribute to Glazunov, who had written a nice sax concerto, but had also made a dog's breakfast of the first performance of Rachmaninov's First Symphony. If so, that shows a touching generosity from a composer who probably knew this was his last composition and died soon after it was completed. One can hear a resume of all of his previous works and memories in what I think was his masterpiece.
I think I remember it being suggested that some of the great American saxophone artists were an influence here...Rachmaninoff had been living in America for some time.....and I think I hear a certain rhythmic modernity in this music as a result.
This is really interesting. I'm a saxophone player getting ready to perform this solo in school but recently learned the Glazunov, and grew to love it as one of the all time beautiful saxophone pieces. This adds another interesting layer of connection. It definitely does flow with a similar delicate feel to some of the Glazunov themes.

Impeccable performance of one of my favorite pieces. I know this is TV and not expecting a super-hi-fi recording, but the audio compression is ridiculous. A bass clarinet solo is louder than the full orchestra, and when everyone is blasting away fortissimo, the sound actually gets quieter!
