That wry smile at 46:35 when the horns don't quite hit that high note together and then the next phrase they nail it and they get a little nod of acknowledgement. As a Horn player myself, this piece is a beast but so EPIC to perform.
the ultimate chop killer
😁 I played horn in high school and first couple years of college - and can relate, although never played this piece.
Beste Sinfonie + Beste Aufnahme + Bester Dirigent + Bestes Orchester
Wonderful! Just like to express my gratitude to the generosity of the orchestra making the great recordings available to all, without ads. I’m certain that I am not alone in say so!
28:07 look at the smile on the face of the flutist. he's truly enjoying the music.
This symphony is truly my support system.. I always crying at 54:00 whenever I heard this part, I feel like a winner, a hero in my own battle and I finally there with my happiness and joy.. I just really grateful for the Orchestra and Conductor for making this symphony sounds regal and pretentious.. knowing how much it means to me.. BRAVO!!!
Orozco-Estrada is a musician's conductor with a wealth of experience as an orchestral violinist. Most great conductors of early C20 had this in common too.
His ability to shape, lead and command attention is entirely at the service of the music and he clearly sees the players as colleagues. I had feared that such conductors had gone forever.
Klaus makela and tarmo peltosoki is good as him also☺️
Mahler 1 is always one of my favorites. This orchestra did an excellent performance of it.
21:51 one of the most beautiful moments ever in music, yet so subtle, so easily missed
Please explain it to me. I think the section from maybe 15 seconds before 21:51 to the next maybe 10 seconds is quite exhilarating but what is happening at 21:51, in your ear?
The repetition of the melody, the interplay between the solo oboe’s subtle texture and the string section, how the music grows and comes away on the oboes sustained note and finally how the strings tail off with a beautiful arpeggio filled with chromatic inflections. I think the choice to end the previous section like this is masterful, blink and one could miss all the subtle musical elements.
@@lukerichmond1319 Well yes but it all happens there so quickly. I found it to be somewhat French or English. Mahler had to move on I suppose. There is so much packed into this Symphony. One can study and consider whether Klezmer is actually a primary or second hand influence on the piece. One can consider the psychology of employing Frere Jacques and studies of German Lieds all in the same work. I guess I am feeling that Mahler was aiming big and did the hard work in small segments, like broad bruh sweeps of paint highlighted or demarcated like filigree. When I listen to Mahler I feel that I have been inspired to think and to feel without being told exactly WHAT to think and feel. It is certainly a music of liberation and expiation.
Was waiting for the trumpet to pass out on that LONG note at 5:50. The deep breath in at the end of it was cute.
THAT CONDUCTOR IS FROM ¡¡¡ COLOMBIA ¡¡¡ SO PROUD OF HIM....
The brass section is astonishing. All sections are superb.
what a terrific orchestra!
But the ending is disappointing!!!!!
Thank you, musicians of the Frankcurt Radio Symphony, for keeping music coming to the audience during the pandemic. We won't forget you!
I - Langsam. Schleppend. Wie ein Naturlaut = 0:26;
II - Kräftig bewegt, doch nicht zu schnell =17:23;
III - Feierlich und gemessen, ohne zu schleppen = 25:23;
IV - Stürmisch bewegt - Energisch = 36:35.

Much appreciate your posting the movement timings .
Orozco-Estrada and this wonderful HR Frankfurt orchestra are showing the best of every great composer. Their version are pure, brilliant and musically clean. The Mahler 4th and 5th are really excellent. The Beethoven Eroica fascinating not to mention the "Tempo perfetto" in the 5th.
(Grazie d' essistere UA-cam).
On our smart TV is almost as being in Frankfurt itself!
Conductor Orozco-Estrada, who always seems to be enjoying the music, seemed especially to enjoy this great work, and well he might, for he inspires a wonderful performance from his orchestra, providing all the innocence and discovery of the first movement, all the lilt and swagger of the second, all the tenderness and sassiness of the third, and all the drama and emotion of the finale. Bravo!
53:46 so nice to see they´re having fun, love it!
Most of the orchestras I've watched on here that he's conducted appear to be happy and having fun.
Peace and Much Groove.
How can you not enjoy that part?
@@michaelkaubrugge1039 cant agree more. The Finale is just glorious
One of the most wonderful things I have ever heard.
How wonderful to have a young conductor performing Mahler!
While there does not seem to be any conductor under the age of 60 today that really stands out as great regardless of his/her generation (Dudamel is closest, but can be inconsistent), Orozco-Estrada may actually be the most consistently fine of today's younger conductors. His broadchasts ranging from the Mendelssohn Scottish Symphony to the Rachmaninoff 2nd Symphony to the Mahler 1st (all quite different in character) have all been very good. This orchestra is lucky to have him - as he brings good energy and most importantly - solid interpretations to each and every performance it seems.
+classicalalways You might want to check out Antonello Manacorda. He has been consistently amazing, at least to my ears.
You may also want to check out Andris Nelsons with the BSO. He just seemed to click and his recordings have that perfection of character to them i cannot explain in words.
There is a big difference between Orozco Estrada, the Viena Miracle, and Dudamel. The former is a real conducto and an outstanding musician, the latter is a marketing product regardless that he may be a good musician.
While I agree that Orozco-Estrada is a great and consistent conductor, your comment is a bit ironic because Dudamel has the by far the greatest Mahler 1 in my opinion.
We have him in Houston. I treasure each concert because he won't stay forever!
Wunderbar 😭✨
Don't clap. Don't. What are you doing? Don't clap! You're seriously breaking my immersion here.
I love the humanity of this work; is that a Yiddish wedding and a funeral going on i n the second movement? But respectful of the culture.
The orchestral colors he achieves is just extraordinary; for us students of composition, Mauler is inspirational, the standard that we might hope to reach some day.
This Conductor Was Great, He Puts Deep Passion Into The Piece, The 2nd Movement Almost Had Me In Tears
Bravo for the conductor, finally someone does what Mahler wrote!
HR-Sinfonieorchester is an exquisite orchestra with outstanding performances on their UA-cam site. Especially with Paavo Järvi and Andrés Orozco-Estrada there are also first class conductors.
Yes it's interesting that this orchestra does not enjoy the Universal acclaim of the Berlin Philharmonic or Dresden Staatskapelle yet appears from what I've heard to yield nothing to them in quality of playing.
@@paullewis2413My guess is because hr-Sinfonieorchester is just younger. But they’re doing great work by making their absolutely (and consistently) excellent performances available for free to everyone
The oboist really knows what he is doing at 26:39
Oboe players are super intellectual people and the weirdest people in the group. Every single time I met the oboe section you can engage in highly intellectual topics and they are very educated but lack serious social skills lmao.
@@Chemz6651 im an oboist and this describes me so perfectly, i dont know why we all conform to this stereotype so much 😭
This performance is a great illustration of what Maestro Orozco-Estrada accomplished in his tenure with this orchestra.
Mahler in this symphony is like an artist who paints a picture then hey scraps what he painted and starts all over again multiple times.
43:58 Heaven for fans of the piccolo clarinet...
The applause between movements is deserved.
Wunderschön! So lobe ich mir den "Titan". Danke für diesen Upload. Mahler geht ja generell immer. Aber diese Sinfonie - mit der 2. und der 5. - bevorzugt.
Wonderful, energetic and lively. Great to see the players so physical with the music, really full of life. Exhilarating! Great camera-work too, big on detail and expressions. Really appreciated.
What a performance of the "Original Punk Rocker, Mahler, the "Bad Boy" himself; performed by some punk, swagger-filled, kick ass musicians of the highest degree! Moving. Brilliant. Perfection. So fun!
Grande!!! Orozco Estrada!!Grande la Orquesta!🥇
The best interpretation I have ever heard. Excellent both the Director and the Orchestra! Thank you!
In October 2018, Orozco Estrada conducted the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a wonderful performance of Mahler’s Third Symphony.
What a great performance. This orchestra is sublime. Brass, woodwinds, strings, percussion just superb. I exhaust praise when i say this orchestra is on par with my beloved Philadelphia Orchestra .
Dude imagine coming out with such a banger as op. 1
53:59 Maestro is having so much fun!
super phenomenal camera work

A mind blowing performance!! Bravo!!
😂❤🎉 CELEBRATE THE WONDER THAT IS GUSTAV MAHLER!!! 🎉🎉🎉😂❤😅😊❤❤❤🎉
A truly wonderful performance
so schön wie immer...
Excelente director este joven . La interpretación de Mahler muy acertada
As good as Kurt Masur's New York Philharmonic's live broadcast on PBS at the end of the 80's or early 90's. It was a piece I had never heard before, but I was glad I tuned in that night. A MIRACLE!
Brilliant performance!
Wonderful concert! 🎻👏🏼👏🏼
Mahler ist großartig! Ich liebe Mahler Sinfonien. Die 2. und 8. sind noch kraftvoller.
i always can't help feeling a beam of hope and being moved with tears welled up in my eyes when i listened this part 53:50!
well done. flutist seems to really enjoy himself.
I miss the pretty blond flutist!
@@dennyt4520 Wittiber is just as good as Andrada in my opinion. Although Clara was sublime, I dont miss her because Sebastian fills the role completely
Love the oboes in the third movement!
"Evening D'Albert! Masterful performance my friend."
Having just watched Todd Field's movie "Tar", I was interested in Mahler's Symphony series and decided to start with number 1 and go from there
Muy emotiva interpretación.bravo
Fantastische! Wunderbar!
Masterful performance!
emotion expression and delicate interpretation
sehr schön musiziert!
Just great and relaxing
53:55! Bravo Hr! Bravo maestro!!!
Bravo, bravissimo!!!!
Maravilloso gracias
¡Grande Maestro Andrés Orozco!
excellent!!!
beautifull piece
Incredible.
참 좋습니다(very good)!
Jeeze! Great music to listen too & even watch being played, & for free ... yet some folk still bo-hoo about unsatisfactory camera work.
It is true. The camera work is dreadful...
Super!!!!!!!!
Eine angenehme Musik.
Those 2 trumpet players at 37:29 🤣🥺
I - Langsam. Schleppend. Wie ein Naturlaut 0:26
II - Kraftig bewegt, doch nicht zu schnell 17:23
III - Feierlich und gemessen, ohne zu schleppen 25:23
IV - Sturmisch bewegt - Energisch 36:35
Thank you for posting the times/movements;)
Peace and Much Groove
Somewhere Brother Jacques has a big smile on his face! GOD bless hr-sinfonieorchester in the name of Jesus! Brilliant performance!😁
33:08 Reprise of the 3rd Movement. It's in my favorite key as well!
WW "bell up" moments
18:49 (2 mvt, rehearsal# 5, 6)
44:59 (4 mvt, rehearsal# 28)
(53:31) 54:15 (4 mvt, 4 before rehearsal# 56)
a wonderful interpretation
Not so fast the ending isn't powerful enough!!!!!
Great recording, too bad they didn't seem to cut to the soloist passages, so numerous in this piece.
very nice
Que maravilla por Dios !!!
The playing is first class, but the camera direction is horrible.
Tim W I think they are trying to be unconventional. I kind of like the regie but I see why you don't. Sometimes it hits the spot, sometimes it's a bit off, but the playing certainly makes up for it :)
Orozco is facing the violins but the camera pans to the woodwinds/brass.
Steven Moore it spoiled the music for you because of bad camerawork? Doesn‘t seem logical to me
I second that and it is not only this performance's or this hall's issue. Many classical music concerts are video recorded with not prepared cameraman. For instance in this work if there is only one thing to be captured, it is the moment where horn players stand at the coda and even that is missed. At the end of the 1st movement timpani solo is missed meanwhile we are shown tacet violin players and countless other mistakes. Really bad job.
Marvelous 👌
Why did Mahler tell the horns to stand at the end of this symphony? Surely it can make no difference in that ocean of sound. Is it purely for dramatic effect; in which case why just the horns?

What's the name of the melody at 25:23 ? Did Mahler come up with it, or was it a folk tune that he incorporated?
Try googling it. It probably is on wiki. I know it’s definitely a song itself I remember hearing it on a podcast.
It is "frère jaques" or "Bruder Jakob" in german, transformed to minor
It's always like I died in went to heaven hearing the third movement 33:27
