WOW. This film is reminder of some hard times not just in Liverpool but the whole country, an honest window into societies dark side and the destruction of the human spirit. 47:00 Ian Heart demonstrating Scouse logic in the card game is a paradox in an enigma and incredibly chilling. Liverpool like many cities in the UK are now in a much better place with communities more united, however this film It is a reminder of how fragile our grip on life is and how it can change for the worse leaving innocent souls grasping a ladder out of misery.
There are still plenty of people living these lives. If not more. Housing got tarted up during the blairite years, but the insides are often still damp and decrepted. Workers, the children and disabled have far less rights and drug use has reached new levels. But it's less visible for those not directly affected, behind closed curtains and off the streets. And yes, more people need to appreciate how easily they can find themselves slipping between the gaps. Until it actually happens too many people believe themselves superior to those to whom it has happened. Successive governments and every newspaper has fed the idea of hordes of feckless people living terrible lives through choice.
@@LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts Luci, Your observations are not questioned here, in the 70's there was much for people to be angry and unhappy about. The 'classes' were further apart and resources not directed to the problems but more on the whip. It is disgraceful the waste of money spent on "Bandaid" fixes, money ending up in large corporations and little feeding down for the work intended to improve housing. The country could have designed prefabricated houses with good materials, houses that would be sound and quick to build but we insist on doing thing the same way meaning slow building and expensive materials. Why are we still doing this. In 1947 emergency housing was provided by the thousands, the lifespan was not expected to be more than fifteen years yet many in the south are still habitable.
