A piece of trivia - the vicar was played by James Beck, who went on to play the spiv, Private Walker, in Dad's Army. He's not easily recognizable but as the credits confirmed, it's definitely him.
@alasdairwatson712 I knew it was him but everything about him was different and difficult to recognise - his face, voice etc. It shows what a good actor he was.
When a shoestring could still deliver part of a Sunday evening's entertainment. Wonderfully British ... ;o) If your aerial faced the right direction, one could switch over to BBC Two TV - for The Bachelors, or ITV for The Big Show with Lonnie Donegan, Julie London, and some Flamenco dancers .. Yes, 1968 - the Number One hit record on Pick of the Pops, Top of the Pops and Luxembourg's Top Twenty Hit Parade was .. Des O'Connor's 'I Pretend'.
Oh thank you so much! I had assumed this was wiped like so much else. I would have been about 10 when I would have watched it with my mother who who gave me a great love of golden age crime. And George Sewell as Lugg!
Wonderful haunting theme music. Checked at the end . Of course. Ron Grainer! Lovely stuff. Thanks for uploading.
Good old British telly, you can’t beat it. Thank you so much for sharing it with us and bringing so much pleasure into our lives.🌟🥂
Hear, hear... top hole..
So happy to see more Campion!
Really loving these episodes of Detective you're posting. Hope there are more to come!
Really enjoyed that. Thx!
Wonderful to see James Beck in a dramatic role and not Dad's Army's Private Walker!
Thanks.
The flabbergasted Vicar wants to crush him to death, but then has to run off to Choir practice... rich.... great writing me thinks.
He was played by James Beck , private Walker from dad's army that actually started this same year ❤
I was very disappointed that they changed the theme tune. I loved the quirky 1964 one and remembered it till three episodes turned up. I was 10.

I thought he looked familiar, but my could not put my finger on it.

Was this Acorn Antiques ? I,m still laughing.
I remember this series, although not this episode.
Thank you for posting! Are there any more? Hope so!!

Very good. Just that the print needs to be digitally remastered for picture and sound. I guess they might do that in the future
Fantastic!
Ah, from the thumbnail I assumed Geoffrey Bayldon was Campion, not LeClerk...
No...he's Catweazle.😉
@@londonlady227 Or The Crow Man.

Brilliant! Love Allingham's novels and the Peter Davison series
Geoffrey Baydon was also in one of the 1990 Campion episodes ...think he was a dodgy vicat.
