I was diagnosed with SCFE at 15 which my surgeon put two metal rods in my hip. I’m 31 and I still experience pain from time to time and I picked up weight since the Pandemic hit. So I’m aiming to shred these lbs so I can start a group up for us individuals, and future individuals so we can get the proper recovery. Videos, stretching videos, etc…
I’m so happy!! I got scfe surgery in September 2020. I just got off crutches last week!! I’m so happy. Doctor is taking out the screw in a few months. But right now, I feel a little pain in my hip on my normal leg. It only hurts when I exercise ALOT. Have a good day everyone.
I had this surgery when I was 12 no complications at all I played football and basketball in school up until I graduated I'm 37 now and still going strong made the decision to leave my screws in which my doctor gave me a choice.
@lolipoppz once the growth plates mend together then the screws are no longer needed. The reason I decided to leave them in is because they would have to cut me open again and the whole recovery process because the first time i had to learn how to re walk along with physical therapy which took about two months
I was also diagnosed with SCFE at the age of 15 and they put pins in my hip as well. At the time it was devastating while playing HS sports but I was able to resume activities once I recovered. I’ve been fine 30 years afterwards but over the last 10 years I’ve experienced advanced osteoarthritis and back pain. I’m 52 now and considering hip resurfacing and taking these pins out.
I would suggest a consultation. You made end up with a hip replacement eventually. The timing could be important to know before considering other surgery.
@@lolipoppz my self diagnosis lead me to believe that the pins were contributing to the pain but Dr Gross informed me it wasn’t and after surgery it confirmed that it wasn’t. So lesson of the day, don’t go on self diagnosis only 😊
I had this happened to me when I was 13 years old I feel like this is one of the worst things that I could experience 30 years later I have osteoarthritis no cartilage an impingement pain all the time
I got scfe at age 10!! I had the knee pain and limped a lot! I broke it in March 4th! And got a screw put in to help it I later got blood issues with it and got steroids in and know I do physical therapy!! I didn’t know what was happening with my knee we were scheduled do see a specialist on Thursday and broke my hip on Sunday took about a year to slip!
I had a scfe on Friday November 27. It was the worst pain I have ever felt so I must’ve had a more severe version. I had lots of bleeding in the hip socket. I had surgery on both hips due to the fact that the same thing could happen in about 18 months. I will be spending 6 weeks on crutches. Do you have any advice of what to do so I can have the best possible recovery?
Tyler, I'm so sorry you're going through this. The best advice is stay on the crutches for the 6 weeks. Don't ever try to "get by" without them. Scfe happens because of the weight causing the slippage. If you try to add the weight, even in small amounts, prior to the healing, you could end up with lifelong issues. Once you have been cleared from the non-weight-bearing, make sure you go slow. You will have muscles you haven't used and they will have atrophied. Be positive and remember this is a long process. Follow the instructions and remember that you have a life ahead of you and though it's annoying now, it will be worth it in the long run.
The ROM will return, but the time for pain alleviation depends on so many things, including age, how severe the slippage is, and whether there are neurovascular issues. It's so important to follow the practitioner's diagnostic decisions (PT, crutches, no weight-bearing, etc.). Try to push this to get back "faster" does not work. You have to take it easy! I'm sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer!
You usually are on crutches for 4-6 weeks and then dependent on the type of surgery, it may be extended. Your doctor would be the best person to follow up with.
What are the chances of a 2 year old girl having it? My daughter went down a slide 5 days ago and is in terrible pain and hasn't been able to walk since. She always has her leg to the side. A physio is worried she has this but the hospital has checked for everything else but this. They say she isn't the right age.
It would definitely be unusual, but because it's a growth plate injury, it could definitely be a concern. Did she get a hip x-ray? It may have been visible there. Did they rule out a hip dislocation? That may also be the problem and is more common for that age. If I were her parent, I would pursue it. It's better to be wrong than have it be ignored!
Same here man ;( I had it when I was 13 back in 2003 and the Dr did open surgery instead of arthroscopic. My right muscle wasn’t seen all the way and now I have severe buttock and hip pain. It’s so hard to get an mri. I feel like the doctors that I go to don’t want to help me :/

That's very generous of you. I'm not sure of the best way for you to do this, but if you want to share on this page, feel free.
Thank you.

You're welcome . . . Good luck on the exam!

Yes! I'm so happy for you!
My doctors are also doubting this for me. Hoping for the best.
I hope all is ok!
