Hip bursitis is the inflammation of the bursa located at the hips.
• Bursa are small, fluid-sacs found near joints. They function as a gliding surface, allowing muscles and tendons to move smoothly over bone and other structures, to reduce friction
• Each hip has two major bursae: the trochanteric bursa (located at the outside point of the hip bone referred to as the greater trochanter), and the iliopsoas bursa (located on the inside of the hip area)
• Inflammation of the trochanteric bursa is called trochanteric bursitis. When the iliopsoas becomes inflamed, it is called iliopsoas bursitis
• Hip bursitis most often involves the trochanteric bursa, although the iliopsoas bursa can also become inflamed.
CAUSES
The major cause of hip bursitis is local soft-tissue trauma or strain injury. This may result from:
• Bumping the hip into an object
• Lying on one side of the body for an extended period
• Repetitive use or overuse from activities, including climbing, standing for a long time, running. Physically active people and athletes including runners, swimmers, skiers are at more risk
• Incorrect posture. This can be caused by scoliosis, arthritis of the lower spine, and other spine problems
• Abnormally positioned joint or bone, such as leg length difference or arthritis in a joint
• Previous surgery
• Chronic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disease, gout, or an unusual drug reaction
• Bone spurs or calcium deposits
• obesity
• In rare cases, it may result from an infection
SYMPTOMS
Trochanteric bursitis usually causes the following symptoms:
• Pain and tenderness of the outer hip and thigh or in the buttock
• Burning pain that is often made worse with excessive walking, exercise, or stair climbing
• Pain when lying on the affected side
iliopsoas bursitis usually causes the following symptoms:
• Pain and tenderness in the front of the hip, that may radiate down the leg or towards the buttock
• Morning stiffness. Often, the stiffness will subside throughout the day
• Pain when exercising, walking up and down the stairs, standing up from a sitting position, or extending one or both legs
New subbie love how i was able to comprehend. Thank you
Excellent presentation-helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
…very nicely done!
Glad you like it!
From seeing what my mother has gone through over the past 28 years shows me that doctors don’t have a solution to the problems, they just let’s try this and when it doesn’t work they guess about what they can try next. Not shots, spinal nerve stimulators, meds, surgery or PT have helped. I’m convinced it’s her high sugar/carbohydrate diet and no exercise mixed with old age but she only listens to a MD who just push meds or another procedure. It’s so hard seeing her in pain.
I have watched so many video's re hip bursitis and nothing has helped me. I am a former runner and I do believe that is the culprit. I don't think there is a solution.
nice
Hip bursitis is very painful.
Did you experienced ? I think i have also facing it
Sure is! Hurts to sleep too.
Agreed. Excruciatingly painful!
Yes, very debilitating.
Mine was caused by years of limping due to an arthritic knee. I go see the orthopedic surgeon about both next month
What did you do for your hip bursitis? How are you now
I'm a side sleeper and it hurts in the middle of the night.
Put a pillow between your knees while sleeping in your side. That is what I do.
I think I’m experiencing this right now. Extreme pain, can’t walk straight, major pain getting in and out of the car, and what feels like spasms. I got scared when I read about septic bursitis but then I learned how one could get septic bursitis and I didn’t exactly fit any of the criteria. Has anyone found any helpful exercises for this?
If you’re reading this and dealing with this crap right now, I hope you get better quick.
I’m dealing with this right now I’m on day 5 and the last two have been me crying it’s so bad. It feels like a contraction that doesn’t end. I hope you get better soon
I finally went to Physical Therapy and it really helped. Also lost 50 pounds and that made a very positive change.
Not sure what it is or cause but I know as I type, I care barely tolerate the pain and don’t seem to have a way out.
@lilysgram5886 I have my physio appointment on 11 June. 3 month wait here in UK!
My doc offered me amytriptiline tablets which made me feel like a zombie. Painkillers don't seem to help that much - maybe just take the edge off a bit.
I have horrid pain in my hip from this. The pain is insanely painful to walk. It feels as if someone is giving me a long shot into my hip
Feels like someone is striking a match inside my hip. It's the worst
I'm having tightness pain is this it?
Life saver
Omg when it gets colder mine hurts and I live in mn, no fun
👍
Ok this was good video
Glad you think so
I also have it man its insane the pain😭
Sorry about the condition. I hope you get better soon.
I think i have bursitis, i got a regular hip injection 4 weeks ago and it lasted a week, pain came back full force and worse. Im currently waiting on a referral from a surgeon office. Something needs to be done in the mean time. No meds work for this, nothing over the counter anyways
I’m in the same situation. Have had this extreme pain for almost 3 years now. Nothing helps I even had hip arthoscopy and labrum repair over a year ago. They told me that would solve the problem and it is worse. It’s so extremely painful I’ve seriously lost my will to live.
@@NEChristo omg I'm sorry to hear that. Have you talked to your orthopedic doctor about what can be done for you next?
Omg. My hip bursa is killing me. I can't wait to get relief.
I hope you find relief soon-take care and consider seeing a healthcare professional if the discomfort continues.
@MedicalCentric Thanks. I have an appointment with my Othro doctor on Monday. Hopefully, I can get an injection. I'm doing aqua therapy, but it's not helping outside of the pool. Lol
Wearing good fitting shoes also helps
I'm 8 months into this despite doing every single thing to manage and prevent it. Can anyone tell me how long this might take to heal? I have a GP appointment next week.
Me two years not sure if it’s this or siatica or arthritis ever since Covid I had this no answers
I've had it 5 years so good luck 🥲
personally never seems to go away
My pain feels like a dull toothache. I just had left total knee replacement surgery seven weeks ago.More pain flared up in my feet, low back and hands. I feel beat up😢😢
Sorry to hear :( Hope you are feeling better.
It’s excruciatingly painful. I was told by my doctor to do water therapy.
Water therapy can be an effective approach to manage hip bursitis, as the buoyancy of water reduces the impact on your hip joint, making it a gentle and low-impact way to improve mobility and alleviate pain. Exercising in a pool, under the guidance of a physical therapist or healthcare professional, can help strengthen the muscles around the hip joint and enhance your range of motion. It's essential to follow your doctor's recommendations and work with a qualified therapist to ensure you're doing the right exercises at the appropriate intensity for your condition.
Thyroid disease is a cause? What type - underactive or overactive?
I have under active thyroid which may cause joints issues....ouch
If I avoid what causes my hip pain I would never go to bed.
So you never sleep? And bed is not cause.
🙂
I know right. I have a hell of a time sleeping.
Im.dying of groin hip pain 😢
Please visit a doctor
Trunk kanteric bursitis😂😂
Steroid injections work for me.
Had that too, it worked for a little while, but it came back after a few months.
@@Melanie-ix4nqI get them every 4 months
