My kid is very jealous that his friend, has friends who actually live next door!
Well if they are friends they are also very fortunate they can enjoy them aswell which many other would be jealous of. And they definitely "can see it all live" so that's something other kids could definitely be jealous about. But yeah you can be jealous about everything and people are often jealous of about everything disregarding what they actually have and what other major things people are jealous of that you take for granted or have.
Humans aren't that rational and kids probably even less so in most areas, well that's life I guess but you can still try to not be to jealous and stand still with whether it's actually worth the thaught or grudge.
And so I have an enormously over sophicated answer to just a good short funny joke. :)

I love seeing your relationship with your kid, Colin. It reminds me of my childhood with my own dad. He was an industrial/nuclear welder who ended up in body work building cars from the ground up, so he knew how to make things. Our house was full of weird steel inventions. It was always fun building things with him. The last project we were able to do together was probably 18 years ago when I was a teen, putting together a Dance Dance Revolution pad so I could use Stepmania with a real pad, opposed to the literal cardboard and sheet metal design I was using and abusing, him doing the metal work and me doing the electronics. His physical health deteriorated to the point he couldn't make things anymore, but I like to think when I have my own kids, I'll be able to do the same thing for them. It might not be the solid metal work like you and him, but we'll be able to make cool electronics together.
Imagine having to be one of his neighbors.

I grew up with my dad saying "Watch your eyes" everytime he would strike an arc welding. LOL

My Dad when I was 8: barely trusted me enough to use the microwave
By 8 I'd already rebuilt the engine on the little motorbike we'd found at the scrap yard. After explaining what I'd need to do, Dad trusted me to strip it down. then after he inspected the parts and got a few replacements, he trusted me to put it back together........ And by some miracle the thing bloody ran !!!! :D
Tell a kid somethings too hard for them to do, and 99% of the time they'll believe you and not even try. But if you explain how somethings done, and explain why certain steps are important, then ask if they feel they could do it, they often surprise you.
My 11 year nephew said he wanted a proper quadcopter (Up to now he's only had ones that I'd class as toys). I've built quite a few RC aircraft in my life, and in the last few years, several quadcopters. I've also got more than enough "last generation" spares kicking around to put 4 or 5 reasonable ones together, So I told him that I could build it, it would take about 4 hours, and I'll GIVE him all the parts......... but I'll charge for my time !
OR, I'll teach him how to solder, explain which part does what, and how they're all connected, Give him the parts and keep an eye on him while he builds it here. He obviously chose the cheaper option B. :D
It took him most of the weekend, and I ended up doing some of the more risky soldering jobs, but he now has the quite respectable sub 250g quad that he wanted, can do basic soldering, Has a fair idea of what to check if something stops working, And he has the sense of achievement you get from pushing your perceived limitations and finding that they don't push back as hard as you thought they would......... Oh, and most importantly, I'm a lot less likely to hear "It's stopped working. Can you fix it for me?" which is well worth the cost of the parts alone. :D

I had quite an easy going and technically minded father who allowed/encouraged me to dismantle things to see how they worked from quite an early age. 50cc motorbikes from the 70's weren't particularly complex things, and the biggest problem I had was getting the large nut off the centre of the clutch basket.
Some kids of my generation had Mechano sets. I had whatever dad thought would teach me something from the local scrap yard.
@@Reman1975 yeah best thing to do if you want learn is to try i did my first engine swap in a car when i was 12 had zero experience. Now 4 years later i can fix and repair most things
@@blackscreen7812 My First car engine swap was at 16, but again, even car's were simple as hell back then. I think the only sensor that whole engine had on it was an oil pressure light switch. :D
