You had Breath of Fire music playing. I think it was either from the 1st or 2nd game. Hearing it brought back some childhood memories. It's such a shame that Capcom mostly ignored this series for over a decade, and the last game was a crappy mobile version.
Capcom abandoned most classic franchises in the 00s because they were too much into their new "modern" franchises, especially DMC, MH and others, besides RE. Then BOF started vanishing from public memory and interest over the years... and now it's much harder to expect anything new and that's not a cheap mobile project. In the end a very common case in gaming (unfortunately very common), where a company uses controversial new ideas in a new game of a franchise, that goes down, and then the franchise is abandoned instead of being reworked with other ideas.

I see many people (My self included) confused with Square labeling on HD and SD games. Recently I saw someone explaining that HD stands for Home Devices and SD for Smart Device, it has to do with the device type and not the games visuals.

Agreed. I consider gaming one of my top 5 hobbies and as such I like to get the best experience out of it. Thus I mainly play on PC for the unparalleled game library, better performance, ability to tweak settings, emulators, better visuals, lower cost of the games etc. etc. etc. I'm not a day1 buyer, but I'd still like the option to be there in case there ever is a game that my pants are absolutely on fire to play, and I simply can't wait a couple months to get it at 50% off like I usually do.
Not gonna help them sell the amount they want… they know they are eventually gonna get more money from PC, Xbox and even Switch 2 probably. The part people don’t understand is square is stunned with the low PS5 sales. Baldurs Gate, God of war Ragnarok and Spider Man 2 all sold an estimated 5 million + on ps5. FF16 said 3 million sold/shipped. That means they are counting every copy you see on store shelves as well… then they don’t even want to tell you the sales for Rebirth. (Sarcastic voice incoming ) I don’t get why they can’t sell more copies? They sold there soul, alienated and turned there fan base against each other..: added action combat in 5 straight final fantasy games and can’t figure out why they can’t appeal to a wider audience. They thought all they had to do was add some sword swinging. Guess what. OG fans ain’t buying action based FF games any more and most western gamers think FF is a weird anime thing.
@@Theb0YWh0lived1 Depends on their expectations for sales. Adding PC day 1, and XBox day 1 will boost sales a little, but not get them extra millions of units sold in the first few weeks. I think your analysis about the problem is solid coming from an OG fan who started on the original Final Fantasy in 1990. I'm simply not as interested in the direction the series has gone by turning the mainline games into action hack and slash games. I haven't bought any of the last few Final Fantasy games as a result.

Going multi platform is okay. I just hope they don't get lazy with the porting. Because what's the point in going this route, if one platform is better than the other?
The reason why some folks are up in a tizzy about smt 5 removed is because the vengeance update even when you go through the original smt5 story in that game it's still different with less features including limted saving, there are possibly some folks who might want to try the older version of smt5 not the updated version of smt5's original story.
David SD Titels is not Standard Definition , they mean smart devices , so SD titels will also be Released on PC

Totally agree on SMT V take. It was confusing AF for me to figure out which version of Persona 5 I wanted since there's like 3 different versions.
Maybe more non Sonic / Yakuza / Persona games dear Sega ? Revive fucking Overworks, AM2, Team Shinobi, Team Phantasy Star (Offline) and Team Andromeda OMFG.
Shining Force too. The rpg scene seems fairly warmed up to accept the franchise right now. It just need a decent modern direction gameplay wise, because it is too old and obsolete now as it was meant to compete with the first Fire Emblem games.
Most srpgs are derivative of FE or FFT... few do what Shining Force does, that is a regular rpg model with free roaming on a map and towns, and the battle mode switches to a srpg. Most srpgs dont have typical free roaming, just walking through "points" in a map, like Mario maps... so that automatically makes SF unique.

I'm especially happy about Falcom's situation. This means we can expect more games to be (re)localized, and maybe remakes of some of their more obscure stuff, like Lord Monarch, Dinosaur or Ys 5 you mentioned... overall, very nice! As for Breath of Fire - as long as it's not like BoF 6, I'd be down for it... sadly, it was never one of Capcom's biggest moneymakers though, but hey, one can dream.
Tokyo Xanadu, and Trails through Daybreak are the ones that interested me the most. Let's hope this new Nier game will be good and not shy away from any fanservice.

Hi David! A bit late to the party, but better late than never. I am VERY glad Squeenix has decided to pursue multiplatform releases. I do not own a PS5 but I do have a good PC, so this news really makes me happy. Still waiting to play FF7 Rebirth... Also, Tokyo Xanadu Ex is a such a good game. Glad it's getting some love.

I see myself trading my PS5 in for the next switch system when it comes out. Buying a ps5 when I have pc was one of the dumbest decisions I ever made.
the reason SE fucked up is because
1. if you search SE waste so much resource try to break in mobile game, so many failed project
2. they set the bar too high for "success sales" all the SE console game actually profitable FF XVI, FF7 remake, FF7 rebirth but they see it as "not expected" sales number
3. they waste resource try to follow "western" DEI stuff
I wanna be excited for yearly releases from Atlus/Sega, but I've seen what this kind of model did to Ubisoft and it's got me worried.
Sonic get games every year, and most of them are mediocre or awful. We need more games like for example Valkyria Chronicles from Sega, not only form 2 IP's.
It looks like the Tokyo Xanadu is not all that different from the PC version available on Steam. Not sure how much they are improving over that version. And you are spot on, made by the same developers as Trails, in fact, there is a character from that series in Tokyo Xanadu. Towa is best girl.
Choosing the faces for Dice Folk (great game btw) means you can customize, to an extent, what is on each face(side) of the die. Still have to roll it.

Xanadu is a falcom game! And it's almost like an alternate reality version of the trails series. Towa is a character in the game too, just no actual connections to cold steel.
Isn't it like Falcom's take on Persona? I haven't played it, but I've heard it described that way before.
@@acidwizard6528 it's similar to persona yeah, in that it's based in one hub town, there are school and social mechanics with the other party members but the battle system is action oriented not turn based, you can equip orb things to characters to buff their stats like in trails games, it's a good game but I much prefer the trails games to it, it's still a good time though.
Capcom is really good at not selling their franchises that are demanded by the fans like the Dark Stalkers for instance.
System exclusives are a terrible way to go. I love multiplatform jrpgs. And if it has cross play then even better
This is a genre that should not have console exclusives anymore. Maybe - just maybe - a few top class franchises could afford to be PS exclusives like FF... but even so look at the recent FF7R performance, that could have been much better. So currently there are no guarantees even to the giant franchise that is FF. That is a kind of outdated strategy.
Neptunia on Xbox, Square focusing on a multiplatform future and more Persona and LaD games! More RPGs to go around for everyone, love to see it
David, you hit me right in the nostalgia playing the soundtrack to the game that got me into RPGS (specifically JRPGS). Like you, I'm hoping that Dragon's Dogma 2's success will bring us a new Breath of Fire. Doubtful, but we can dream right?

I'm not personally a fan of most NIS games I've played, but it makes me happy to see that things are looking up for them. They have a long history and I know they bring a lot of joy to many JRPG fans stateside.

Tokyo Xanadu was great, I loved it when I played it a few years back. Nier I just didn't connect with sadly... I didn't connect with Automata and I just finished Ending A of Replicant and honestly I'm not pushed to get the other endings. Kind of bummed about it after hearing so much about it. I'll say the OST for both Replicant and Automata are some of the best of all time, though. So beautiful.
imo, it is a smarter move if game devs makes games for nintendo first, then they can port to other systems if they want.

I think I was in the minority but I actually enjoyed FFXV Pocket Edition so the SD games would be welcome, especially if they end up doing something like bringing back the SNES era design SD Amano art character designs.

If I didn't already have the PS4 Collector's edition of Tokyo Xanadu eX+, I would definitely buy the Switch version..
The real question for Square is when will DQ3 2D HD remake will be out and an update for DQ12.....3 years later and we still don't know what the main character looks like.
I would say that is pretty much Nier, thats seems like is just a word joke with 'near', in the last 2 months I played Drakengard 3, Nier Reincarnation and replicant in a row, so I'm quite interested in what they're working on it
With Falcom getting better sales inbthe West it raises my hopes for Trails in the Sky Trilogy Remaster/Remake being released on consoles.
If it's going to keep the series going then I am all for it being multi-platform. I don't think that's the only reason those games underperformed however. Just by reading comments sections, you get the idea that SE's expectations were unreasonably high to begin with. There's also the people who didn't like the more action based aporoach. Some didn't like Remake and weren't going to buy Rebirth. Some of them are waiting for the Remake trilogy to he completed. Some balked because the games were associated with Sweet Baby, Inc. There's also the PS5 having a smaller user base. And let's not forget that, Rebirtvat least, launched in a very crowded time period with other highly anticipated games like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Stellar Blade. Basically, it was death by a thousand cuts rather than a single factor.
I was hoping for FFIX Remake news but I'm guessing that, if it exists, we're not going to he seeing it until next year at the soonest.
I feel like the exclusivity deal with Sony made sense in light of the PS4's success. They probably figured "hey, the Switch isn't that powerful, and few people are buying an Xbox, but Sony knows what they're doing."
And then the myriad of problems with how Sony has handled the PS5 and this generation made themselves known.

Oh, poor Square-Enix, bless their heart. They blame exclusivity as the reason why the latest FF's aren't selling well. Meanwhile, FF7 and FF10 both had SMALLER installation bases of PS1/PS2 consoles when those games released and they became the top franchise best-sellers for decades. It's almost as if alienating a major portion of your fanbase by completely abandoning traditional gameplay, having very unlikable characters, boring antagonists, unnecessarily complex/indecipherable narratives, making major story changes to its most beloved story, etc, etc, etc, might have been bad for business. Hmmm...
Nomura destroyed FF7 with Chadley. And FF16 by having only 1 playable character. And the same boring 4 hit combo the whole game. And theres soo much other problems with FF16.

Its my belief that exclusives should go the way of the dodo. I'm 43, I buy consoles for the kids but dad games on pc. People are going to game where they like. In the long run it isn't going to kill console sales if they do this. People buy consoles because they don't want to deal with PC, and vice versa PC players love the freedom that pc brings. Everyone should be able to enjoy what they like wherever they game, which is about the only thing Microsoft has said correctly lately. Now Square, stop making me wait for 16 and 7 rebirth on pc!

Unfortunately there is zero realistic expectation that a modern BOF, if it ever returns, would be turn based. That is a franchise that since the beginning already looked odd in Capcom's catalog, and Capcom's modern catalog is such that a new turn based BOF would look much more odd and unfitting.
